Review: Fashionary Sketchbook (+ a giveaway!)

25 Jun

Fun LT Fact: Back in high school, before I fell hard in love with sewing, I was a wannabe artist. Painting, sketching, doodling – I loved it all. I was moderately good at it (not enough to, like, make a career out of it or anything, ha!), and I churned out dozens of sketches and paintings (mostly oil and acrylic). Once I switched over to sewing, my love affair with art started to die down. This is why I love fashion sketching so much – it really appeals to the other artistic side of me, the one that likes to use paintbrushes and fancy drawing pencils.

One caveat to my art: I’m a fantastic copier, but I cannot draw or paint from memory. Can’t do it! So all my paintings were direct copies of whatever I was looking at (be it a photo from a magazine, or a real painting in my art book, or whatever).

Fashionary Sketchbook

So, this Fashionary Sketchbook really appeals to me, as it allows me to draw and doodle clothing to my little heart’s desire, without actually having to come up with drawings on my own accord (aka, copy that shit, dude!).

Fashionary Sketchbook

This little unassuming red book was sent to me by the folks at Fashionary to review. I’ve been carrying it around for about a month, and I gotta say – it’s pretty freaking cool! The small size (I’m using the red sketcbook, fyi) is small enough to carry around in my purse, but it’s big enough so I’m not drawing little 2″ figures. I love that there’s elastic to keep the book closed when you’re not using it, and a bookmark is attached to the binding so you can quickly find your place.

Fashionary Sketchbook

Oh, and the first 20% of the book is full of line drawing for various clothing and accessories! Remember what I said about being a copier? YEP, this shit is RIGHT up my alley!

Fashionary Sketchbook
Fashionary Sketchbook
There are so many little details in this book, I don’t even know where to begin. Lots of line drawings to copy for your figure sketches – and even the outline of pattern pieces at the top of the clothing pages.

Fashionary Sketchbook
Tables of measurements for anything you might need while designing.

Fashionary Sketchbook
Fabric patterns!

Fashionary Sketchbook
Care labeling instructions decoded, because why the fuck not?
(Note: I should probably learn these. I just wash everything on cold, is that terrible?)

Fashionary Sketchbook
Different poses, if you dare!

Fashionary Sketchbook
The last 80% of the book is for sketching. A first glance, it appears to be blank pages-

Fashionary Sketchbook
But if you look closely, you can see a faint outline of the figure, 3 per page. This is my favorite part of the book; the outline is visible enough so you can use it if you have problems with drawing proportions (well, we are talking ~fashion~ proportions here), but it’s faint enough to where you could ignore the template and doodle whatever the hell you want right over it.

Guys, I have fallen in LOVE with this book. I’m so sorry if this is like the gushiest review ever – yes, I got a free book out of it, but I’d buy this shit regardless. It’s so handy and well thought out, and it appeals to me on so many levels.

Want to see what I’ve been doodling? Don’t judge my mediocre drawing skills, now!

Fashionary Sketchbook

My only complaint is that I wish the paper was a little thicker so I could outline my pencil with ink – I started to, with my first drawing, but it bled through the back. Ugh. I reckon if the paper was any thicker, the book might have to have less pages, so I’m sure that’s why it is what it is. Alternately, I could probably try using an ink pen that didn’t bleed through so much, like a ballpoint. I was using a Sharpie in this case, ha.

As a side note, this book has inspired me to start painting again, so I signed up for a Watercolor Painting class this past month! It’s been really fun – I love learning new things as an adult – and hopefully I’ll have some cool ~fashun~ watercolors to show y’all in the future šŸ™‚ Lord knows I spent enough on the paints šŸ˜› I better get my money’s worth out of them!

Fashionary Tape
In my package, I also received this bonus little Fashion Tape Measure! While this is not something I will personally use for it’s intended, er, use (I don’t draft patterns, and I probably won’t ever start. Sorrrrrryyyyy!), I can’t hate on a good tape measure. Those things always come in handy šŸ™‚

Fashionary Tape
Fashionary Tape
What makes this tape measure unique is that it is marked at key measurements for two standard sizes (men and women’s). The women’s standard US size 6 is marked on the white side in centimeters.

Fashionary Tape
The men’s US 38 is marked on the black side, in inches.

I can absolutely see how someone who designs and drafts patterns could find this useful! It’s pretty cool. Personally, though, I’ll just be using it for plain tape measure purposes. I love sewing gadgets haha šŸ™‚

GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

Cool! My sketching skills are minimal, and it seems like something like this could help me get my ideas onto paper. Artistic talent other than sewing? I’m signed up for a basic wheel pottery class that starts tomorrow, and I have a feeling that I am going to love working with clay.

  2. Kelsey June 25, 2014 at 6:57 am #

K even if I don’t win I’m buying one! That is just so cool.

  3. Amanda Renea June 25, 2014 at 6:57 am #

I have many other talents! Knitting/crocheting, paper crafting, graphic and Web design, baking, quilling, and some others, I’m sure. My coworkers call me “Martha f-ing Stewart”! Seems about every few months I rotate into a new craft, but I still can’t draw! I need a template like this!

But, I love making and designing clothes. When little, I made clothes from blankets and hair clips or even turned my brother into a “paper doll” of sorts and would cut and staple paper together into clothes!

  4. iorhael June 25, 2014 at 7:03 am #

Aw I would LOVE that! I’m afraid I don’t have any artistic skills, and I’m not even sure my sewing can be qualified as “artistic”… Well, I’m a “shower singer” and I drew comic-style characters in my notebooks as a teenager, but apart form that… šŸ™‚

  5. jen dub June 25, 2014 at 7:04 am #

talents? nah…but my family think i make the best crusty bread (they might be biased), so can i call artisan? x

  6. Paige June 25, 2014 at 7:04 am #

What a neat idea! I actually got my college education paid for from a summer art program in my state (though would up in an engineering program. Go figure). I can draw, but coloring was always my favorite. I loved bringing to life pictures with artist markers or colored pencils.

My creativity hasn’t gone away with sewing. It just has a slightly different avenue! This little book would be so helpful for making sure I don’t forget any of my ideas!!

  7. Sara June 25, 2014 at 7:04 am #

I do knit as well, but I’m more of a pattern follower than a think up my own thing kind of person. So I guess I’m a copier as well. I’ve also played various instruments, though these days I only own a piano.

  8. Roisin Muldoon June 25, 2014 at 7:05 am #

I have basically no artistic talent whatsoever but I am really good at drawing cartoons of Nic as a bear. I also recently drew a picture of him on a napkin that I was really proud of. It was a big moment in my life, ha! I’d love to win this, I have been very curious about the fashionary.

    • kristiellkay June 25, 2014 at 11:19 am #

omg I’m dying. I love your oddly specific talent SO much.

      • kristiellkay June 25, 2014 at 11:22 am #

Oh, also, sorry don’t count me. I have my own personalized version of this thingy =D

  9. Annabelle June 25, 2014 at 7:10 am #

While I have loved creative expression since I was little (in kindergarten I made a construction paper bunny every day during free time – the teacher eventually had to put the supplies away so I would do something else), I’m not sure if I would say that I have true artistic talents. I sew and knit, and am a wannabe painter and sketcher šŸ˜‰

  10. Skaapie June 25, 2014 at 7:18 am #

Oh what fun! Would love to be entered!

    • skaapie June 25, 2014 at 7:20 am #

Oh and other artistic talents are baking. šŸ™‚ It is artistic no?

  11. Penny June 25, 2014 at 7:18 am #

Draw I do not! Very bad at it! But I love to sew & knit!

  12. Jen June 25, 2014 at 7:19 am #

I guess I’m just generally crafty as well as a sewist – that’s where my talents lie! I would love to win this. šŸ™‚

  13. Katerina June 25, 2014 at 7:20 am #

I tool a fashion design course last year, Fashionary would be really useful to start sketching again!

  14. Rosalie June 25, 2014 at 7:21 am #

I am terrible at drawing and this book would be so helpful!

  15. Erika A June 25, 2014 at 7:22 am #

I took 5 semesters of ceramics in college. I think I peaked my first semester though, I made a foot tall garden gnome. I gifted him to my aunt, and he currently resides on her bedside table and is named Fritz! I also have a lot of bowls. Like, a ridiculous amount of shitty bowls and a handful of ones I really like.

Sketching? Not so much. I could definitely benefit from this book!

  16. Teresa June 25, 2014 at 7:29 am #

Yep, used to draw and paint all the time. Once I be came obsessed with making my own clothing, I only draw out clothing ideas now. So this book would be perfect.

  17. kristonlion June 25, 2014 at 7:30 am #

I am really good at making Jell-O shots. Is that kinda artsy? Hmmmm…

  18. Bellbird June 25, 2014 at 7:31 am #

Woohoo! I’ve just started to knit this year and I love it, I’m onto my second sweater. But I enjoy basically any creative pursuit that utilises my hands, be that sewing, drawing, origami… I’m a classical musician for a job, so I guess that counts too!

  19. sewlittletime June 25, 2014 at 7:32 am #

i really want a fashionary! i have no artistic talent but i huge list of pinterest-inspired crafts i could take up – dying, batik, fabric stamping, lino printing, machine embroidery etc etc. most of those are fabric based tho. as a child i also did quilling and calligraphy, but neither very well. oh and i have made lace!

  20. Friederike June 25, 2014 at 7:33 am #

I just started my education as an textile technician and we draft and design a lot! I saw these books popping up an so many blogs and I’m really thrilled. So maybe I’m lucky enough to win. šŸ™‚

  21. Mary Carol De Zutter June 25, 2014 at 7:34 am #

    I write!

  22. PendleStitches June 25, 2014 at 7:39 am #

My five year old draws better than me! Maybe this would help redress (pun intended!) the balance. šŸ˜‰

  23. ambybambi June 25, 2014 at 7:39 am #

    Ohhhh what a great idea!
I’m in my first year of fashion school so this would be amazing, it’s so difficult getting scaling right!
My other talent would be furniture renovation. I love taking beaten up unloved vintage furniture and giving them a new lease of life. I spend many happy hours sanding and painting them, although time is limited now being a student! If I didn’t adore designing so much I’d definitely be doing up furniture as a living! šŸ™‚

  24. Suzie June 25, 2014 at 7:40 am #

I have been drooling over the Fashionary for some time now, but have yet to get my own copy – so I would love to win this!
As for my artistic skills…hmmm, I am pretty out of practice these days, but in school I took art and got an A* (which is a UK scoring system for higher than A – not sure why they need that!) but unfortunately never pursued as ‘it wouldn’t lead to a career’ šŸ˜¦
Good on you for signing up for the watercolour painting class – enjoy!

  25. SweetBetsy June 25, 2014 at 7:41 am #

I’m a painter suffering from block that’s been using sewing to get out of my creative block. This would be so good for me!

  26. Angela June 25, 2014 at 7:42 am #

Hi there. I’d love to win this book. I crochet, paint, dye. But my favourite artistic pastime is dancing. I’ve always danced but I discovered bellydancing in my mid-40’s. Who can resist the pretty shiny bits and bobbles? And the glitter?! Check out my dance partner and I. https://www.facebook.com/salimaodancers. And yes, I make the costumes.

  27. Sue June 25, 2014 at 7:42 am #

My gosh I love the Fashionary!! I’ve been sketching through my Pinterest page on my iPad whilst holding baking paper over the top!! LOL!!! Oh, and….I studied music at Uni and I make the odd bit of jewellery! Thanks Lauren, love your work!

  28. Lauren June 25, 2014 at 7:44 am #

I like to sketch – but just like you, I have to copy from something. I have never been able to draw from memory. While sewing is my main creative past-time these days, I also enjoy trying other things like crocheting stuffed toys and jewelry making.

  29. Emily - Belgian Seams June 25, 2014 at 7:44 am #

Does knitting count? I also like making collages for birthday cards. But I’d really love to be able to sketch so this notebook could be very handy to help me out!

  30. Kate June 25, 2014 at 7:44 am #

You’re right, it’s a gushing sort of review but well deserved and now I really, really want one! I’ve filled small carry around sketchbooks over the years with ideas, sketches, on the spot inspiration for clothes, shoes, craft, rug hooking, weaving etc., but it’s all mixed in together so having a book dedicated to fashion would be fabulous.

  31. Little Leys June 25, 2014 at 7:46 am #

You are such an enabler! If I don’t win I will no doubt have to add this to my shopping list! I used to watercolour paint (copying photos or pictures) many years ago and I can now feel a trip up to the loft this evening to unearth my supplies coming on.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  32. Sarah June 25, 2014 at 7:48 am #

I’m an architect. I really love designing objects and seeing them made from my drawings. I think that’s possibly why I like sewing. I can dream up what I want to wear, including all the fun little details and then actuality see it come to life!

  33. jowynj June 25, 2014 at 7:49 am #

Such a cool sketchbook. Sadly I have no artistic talents (faint hum of small violins…)

  34. Kim June 25, 2014 at 7:50 am #

Like you, I did tons of art in high school. Sewing has kind of taken over. Maybe when I have enough clothes someday I’ll go back to painting!

    • jules June 25, 2014 at 8:02 am #

I’m the artist who also sews. Animation specifically. They both take a lot of time and with kids/family I don’t always get my make time in like I NEED to. (It’s a need, not a want. I get weird if I don’t make stuff.) I sketch clothes to sew and fabric choices, etc in a three ring binder but would love to try the fashionary notebook.

  35. Heather L June 25, 2014 at 7:52 am #

That is such a cool little book! i’m not so artistic, my only other thing is knitting. My husband has taken up drawing just a few months ago and is having so much fun! He just bought watercolours after seeing some super inspiring art on line. What course did you take? Was it on line by chance? (We are so far from local to you…). Thanks! (Love your blog btw…great thorough comments and witty fun to read to boot! šŸ˜‰

  36. Beth June 25, 2014 at 7:53 am #

Started fashion design program, and although no problem with construction part, i freaked about the sketching. After one drawing class, I am impressed with my newly developed skills . Would love this notebook!

  37. Sara June 25, 2014 at 7:56 am #

Pre children I used to paint for fun. I’m probably no good at it. And I love to draft patterns but I think of that more as maths than an artistic thing to do. And I knit and do some woodcraft to šŸ™‚

I’m in love with sketchbooks and this one seams amazing!

  38. Linda T June 25, 2014 at 7:57 am #

Drawing? no. Painting? only walls and doors. but I can crochet and knit and hand embroidery. tha’ts about the extent of my artistic ability besides my sewing – which I love! All that said, I’d love a chance at the sketch book! Thanks!

  39. Leah June 25, 2014 at 7:59 am #

I actually went to art school and got a degree in visual arts. I spent my iniveraity years drawing, painting, and sculpting. My favourite medium was printmaking. But once I found sewing that was it. No more artistic endevours. I love that all of the knowledge and skills I learned in art school about art history, balance, proportions, colour etc are transferable to my sewing. I’d love to win the fashionary.

  40. themidnightpony June 25, 2014 at 7:59 am #

Wow, that is such a cool sketchbook! I love your drawings. I have the same problem – I can paint and draw but NOTHING from my imagination or memory, so frustrating! I’m trying to practice doodling more, thinking maybe it’s my perfectionism getting in the way of creativity! I’d love to use this book to plan my handmade wardrobe šŸ™‚

  41. Rachel June 25, 2014 at 8:00 am #

I have been drooling over that book since they first came out! And actually, my real job is a working artist! http://Www.rachelchurch.com

  42. Anonymous June 25, 2014 at 8:00 am #

I had the same trouble in my journal with a Sharpie. Turns out Sharpie makes a pen that doesn’t bleed through. Hooray! Nice black lines with no bleed-through.

  43. Caitlyn M. June 25, 2014 at 8:00 am #

If I keep throwing my hat in the ring, a Fashionary sketchbook is bound to come my way eventually, right? šŸ™‚ Besides sewing, I can knit, crochet, read music and do very basic composition (I played the French horn for 7 years), sing passably well, and ballroom dance. I’ve dabbled with several drawing media (charcoal, acrylics, digital), but seem to do best sketching with a plain old pencil. Writing is my real passion. I plan to learn spinning and weaving at some point. Basically I’ve got too many hobbies and I’m always game to take up more.

  44. Willow Harriet June 25, 2014 at 8:02 am #

Awesome book. I love spinning – wool, not cycling :), and botanical illustration. I’m happiest with pencils but I’m trying to branch out into watercolours. I also have various musical instruments I play.

    • LinB June 25, 2014 at 9:43 am #

Hahahaha! “Wool, not cycling.” Love you for this. I tried to spin some wool rovings, but find I am far better at spinning rags into rag yarn. It is both thinner and more durable than mere strip rags, for knitting and crocheting into the best pot holders in the world.

  45. Bridget June 25, 2014 at 8:03 am #

My art teacher always told me and my friend that we were good at making brown colours. So I don’t think I have much artistic skills (in painting anyway!). This looks awesome, I have a sewing book where I tend to draw what I plan on making but having one of these will definitely make it look much prettier šŸ™‚

  46. carlalissa June 25, 2014 at 8:06 am #

In my teenager years I love to paint on canvas and acrylics, but as time went by I realized I was not that good LOL…. but I am dying to put my hands on one of those little books ;)… thank you in advance for the giveaway!!!

  47. Kadri Kaur June 25, 2014 at 8:06 am #

Oh my, a red Fashinary just shot to the top of my i-need-it-and-i-need-it-now list! I am rather talentless but I can actually make some rather decent-looking jewelery. I do know how to knit and all that other craftiness but just tire of it real fast, but I could sew all day long until my fingers hurt!

  48. Fooniks June 25, 2014 at 8:07 am #

I have so many talents. And all of them are useless. My biggest talent is failing at life, haha. I used to be somewhere around “not too bad” and “mediocre” at drawing but then I stopped practicing and now I am horrible again. sigh.

But I do tend to entertain everyone around me with my fantastic clumsiness. So I guess that’s something, eh šŸ˜€

  49. Annemarie June 25, 2014 at 8:07 am #

I keep loving the fashionary sketch book whenever I see it at carolyns blog (handmade by..). Would love to have my own!
I used to play the piano quite a bit, but I feel it really hurts any progess to pause for a couple of weeks, say due to a stressfull time at work. With sewing I find it much easier to have alternating productive and unproductive phases.

  50. Alexa Shelton June 25, 2014 at 8:08 am #

I like to draw and pain too but I’m not very good. šŸ™‚ This book looks like soo much fun!

  51. thetelltaletasha June 25, 2014 at 8:08 am #

My other artistic talent is dancing lool sooo different from sewing but will always be my first love šŸ™‚

  52. Raspberry Blue June 25, 2014 at 8:11 am #

The sketchbook just looks sooooo awesome! I love to paint actually but I’m a super amateur. I actually just painted a couple of painting with oil. I have taken a figure course though and loved it. I do want to explore and do acrylic and watercolor painting. I’m so glad you found your class enjoyable šŸ˜€

  53. alliedpassagetranslations June 25, 2014 at 8:11 am #

I’m far from a good “artist” in the truest sense of the term (drawing, painting, etc.), but I think I’m very creative in other areas – design, jewelry-making, and more or less figuring out/copying the things on Pinterest so I don’t go broke trying to buy them all. šŸ™‚

  54. alexandracuckoo June 25, 2014 at 8:13 am #

I can’t draw or paint to save my life! I was kind of okay at copying, but as soon as I was given the option to drop art at school I did! I guess my artistic side leans more toward writing than drawing – but I love the idea of the dotted lines on the Fashionary, because it would LOOK like I’d drawn the figures, even though I hadn’t!

  55. Stephanie June 25, 2014 at 8:17 am #

I’m a graphic and packaging designer but that’s it for ‘artistic’ skills. Anything else I just admire from a distance.

  56. knitmo June 25, 2014 at 8:18 am #

I am a mediocre painter/sketcher/illustrator at best. However, I do play the flute, so that is my extent of artistic talent. I am more of pattern follower, especially for sewing and knitting.

  57. Mertxe June 25, 2014 at 8:18 am #

It’s a wonderful idea of a notebook. I always sketch my inspirations in the back pages of my diary, which i always carry witn me. I am like you in one sense, I’m sooo good at copying! I see somebody wearing a beautiful dress, next thing it’s on my diary, next thing is on me, hehe!… but like you, I cannot draw or create from memory!
Now, in one think we are so different: I prefer to make my own patterns, and it is difficult for me to understand why you cannot even try it! What is the use of all those wonderful sketches if you cannot draw their patterns? At the end of the day, you are not creating, you are only following instructions! Believe me, it you tried to construct your own designs, and sew them, you would be double satisfied, because they would be your own creations from start to finish.

  58. Elise June 25, 2014 at 8:19 am #

Awesome book! I have a text book left over from college of these templates – I studied fashion and sewing for two years and I kinda miss the drawing part of it… I’ve also been an obsessive knitter for longer than I can remember, nice and soothing šŸ™‚

  59. mauude June 25, 2014 at 8:21 am #

I was really good at painting some years ago, but I’ve stop this activity so now I’m just horrible at it (looks like it’s not some bicycle activity where you can stop a few years and still be good at it when you do it again!). This book is freaking amazing! I love the idea. šŸ™‚ Thanks for this amazing giveaway!

  60. martabarcelona June 25, 2014 at 8:22 am #

What a fabulous sketchbook! I could draw when I was a little girl, I’m not that good at drawing now. I can make delicious carrot cakes and brownies, does it count?
    Thank you!

  61. Joey Hendricks June 25, 2014 at 8:22 am #

I love to sew. When i was younger I loved to draw.

  62. Mary Lindell June 25, 2014 at 8:24 am #

I can barely draw a stick figure that isn’t laughable. When I look at my flower garden and see how beautifully it turns out most years I feel like an artist. Of course God helped but I still take the credit.

  63. annekecaramin June 25, 2014 at 8:26 am #

Sewing is actually my second artistic talent! I have a degree in illustration and comics and occasionally do some of thet for money. I’ve illustrated two books and a cd for a Belgian children’s musician and I’m currently figuring out ways to combine my drawing and sewing, mostly through printing on fabric!

  64. Liv June 25, 2014 at 8:28 am #

I’m in Italy with new water color pencils trying to capture all the geraniums spilling over window boxes. No talent, but it’s sure fun hunting down red, white, and green- flowered window boxes!

  65. Nicole June 25, 2014 at 8:30 am #

I want! I want! I’ve been on the verge of buying one of these. They look great. For the meantime I’ve made a little notebook that has graph paper on the inside. I am like you and used to paint and do other arts. Luckily, one of the main artistic ways I used to express myself is photography, I even minored in it in college. I’m starting to mess around with the photography again as I finally started a blog. I will admit, though, digital photography is not nearly as relaxing as being in a darkroom. My next creative outlet is going to be shoemaking. I just need to wait until I get back to the states to get all my supplies. (For the life of me, I cannot find paste here in Brazil!)

How funny, I’ve been doodling in mine all day, and stopped to read blogs šŸ˜‰ haha

  67. Earleen June 25, 2014 at 8:31 am #

I do not have any artistic talent related to sketching.

  68. HoopesParkStudios June 25, 2014 at 8:33 am #

Neat sketchbook. Besides sewing, I have been known to paint (when inspiration strikes me). I also do linoleum block prints from time to time.

  69. Andie L. June 25, 2014 at 8:35 am #

That is really cool! šŸ™‚ I used to draw back in the day. I would love to get back into it.

  70. Christina June 25, 2014 at 8:36 am #

I used to do these ridiculous illustrations of floofy dresses and girls with really round faces (traced from a quarter, naturally). I think I still have some – colored in with my favorite 64 pack of Crayola crayons!

  71. Louise June 25, 2014 at 8:37 am #

You should totally make that care label guide into a download, I’d be all over that! No more guessing whether something is washable! I’m super creative so I do loads of things other than sewing – I’ll give any craft a try šŸ™‚

  72. Felicia June 25, 2014 at 8:38 am #

Wowowow! I’d looove to win one of those! Fingers crossed! šŸ™‚

  73. Shae' June 25, 2014 at 8:39 am #

Oh yay! This is right up my alley! Let’s see, I love to draw with graphite and with oil pastels…in fact I do portraits for sale (check out my facebook page (Oil Pastel Portraits by Shae’ W Cannon). I also hand embroider, knit (my newest hobby) and of course sew. Since I work full time and have a family (hubby, two boys 9 and 15, and two dogs) who keep me busy, I have to do my hobbies in bits and spurts…

    • Shae' June 25, 2014 at 8:48 am #

oh, and check out my kollabora page…I actually made my own fashion sketch pages for my levenger notebook that is always in my purse …because of course when I saw the review on the Handmade by Carolyn blog of her fashionary I was too impatient to wait on one so I googled croquis and made my own šŸ˜‰

  74. BeautifullySewn June 25, 2014 at 8:40 am #

Oh this looks like so much fun! I’d love to try sketching my ideas before sewing myself!

  75. joellestlaurent June 25, 2014 at 8:42 am #

other artistic talents… well that depends on what you count as artistic! i do knit, i could be good at drawing if i had the patience, and i wish my job involved more photoshop (i really enjoy creating “artistic” renderings, i’m an architect)… does that counts?

  76. Sara Polish June 25, 2014 at 8:42 am #

What a nifty little book! Sewing is my newest hobby that I’m trying to turn into what one could call a talent. My favorite artsy thing to do is create digital clip art, invitations, and custom portraits https://www.etsy.com/shop/madebySaraPolish

    • Shae' June 25, 2014 at 9:34 am #

      love your etsy page!

  77. Katie Emma June 25, 2014 at 8:45 am #

My first crafty passion was jewelry making – I ran a small business and sold my work at art and craft fairs in middle school and high school. My passion for jewelry was replaced with knitting in college, and now I’m finding myself daydreaming about sewing instead of knitting…
The Sewtionary looks awesome. I’m going to ask for one for my birthday in August (unless I win one first!!)

  78. beaglescout524 June 25, 2014 at 8:46 am #

Gel pens. I loved them for my grade book back when I was teaching. (Red for tests, blue for homework/daily grades, etc. Made spoting kids who were missing important assignments easier. ) They don’t bleed through and the ink flows really well. They aren’t waterproof, though.

As for creativity, I taught theatre. Which means I got to do everything! Sewing, painting, construction, electrical work, and being the “other mother” to a bunch of amazing high school kids.

  79. Lisa d June 25, 2014 at 8:47 am #

what a great book to get you thoughts spurring and on to paper! love it. other hobbies are all generally crafty (card making, jewellery makig etc) but i do also love cycling. keen to somehow merge these, not sure how – link my machine up to my pedals?!

  80. Diana June 25, 2014 at 8:50 am #

I’ve been thinking about picking one of these up, but I really want something that uses a croquis based on my figure rather than a fashion sketch figure (let’s just say that those legs are about half the width of mine…!)

Creatively, besides sewing, I write stuff! It’s the best.

  81. Jen June 25, 2014 at 8:51 am #

oh wow, this is so cool. I did Textiles as my GCSE option and got so into the fashion sketches. I was going through a grunge phase with punk interludes and ended up sketching loads of bondage trousers and making a tartan pair – no idea where they ended up! as far as artistic talent goes, I’m pretty sure I was distracted by something the day they were handing that out, but I am an enthusiastic (if a tiny bit rubbish) baker of nibbly things!

  82. Silk Pins and Strawberries June 25, 2014 at 8:53 am #

Other artistic talents….. not sure really but I remember being a good copier when we did sketches and drawings at school. I’ve had my eye on the fashionary for a while though and I think it’ll help me plan outfits that I want to make a bit better. Fingers crossed!

  83. Erin June 25, 2014 at 9:00 am #

Love the book! Other than sewing, I knit. I took a lot of pottery classes in college and loved it! Don’t have the time, space, or money these days.

  84. Rachel June 25, 2014 at 9:01 am #

I was actually a painting major in college! These days I’m a designer, so less doodling and painting in my life and more creating designs for websites. And of course, sewing!

  85. Anna June 25, 2014 at 9:01 am #

    That book is amazing!
I used to like drawing – I was alright at drawing objects but I can’t draw people to save my life!
I make jewellery, knit and crochet, but I do like doodling, especially when there are no faces involved (I like it that they are not compulsary in this book!) and I like panting abstract squares, triangles and so on!

  86. hollylewis June 25, 2014 at 9:01 am #

This book is fabulous – I always feel like my figures look wonky when I don’t have something to copy. I love to paint as well, but sewing has taken a priority over it in my life! I also used to do chalk drawings which were a ton of fun. Maybe I should start up again…

  87. Breenah A June 25, 2014 at 9:02 am #

I would LOVE to win this. Along with sewing, I knit. Sometimes I’ll try to draw or paint, but it’s hit and miss. I did make my husband some awesome Vader and R2D2 shoes though.

  88. lauradublin09 June 25, 2014 at 9:04 am #

    That notebook looks fab!

  89. ThreadTime June 25, 2014 at 9:05 am #

Like you, I’m better at copying than original work. We all have our gifts, right? I’m more crafty than artistic and, in our family, we play with a lot of mediums. It’s all fun. Good luck with your watercolor class. Now that does sound like fun!

    Thanks for the fantastic giveaway.

  90. Beth S June 25, 2014 at 9:18 am #

Other than sewing, I love to make soap! Super fun hobby that started as a way to use up my surplus of mint in the garden.

  91. lindaho3 June 25, 2014 at 9:22 am #

I started to make cardboard box cities and vehicles for my son but otherwise, I do not have any artistic talent. Trying to get back into sewing!

  92. karins28 June 25, 2014 at 9:27 am #

well, other than sewing I love making organic products like lip balms body lotions and face masks for fun !

  93. Nikie June 25, 2014 at 9:31 am #

OMG that sketch book is amazing! I love making all things, felt, screen printing, beadwork, hand stitch, machine free stitch the list goes on!

  94. smonakey June 25, 2014 at 9:31 am #

I knit & sew (a bit), but I can barely draw a stick figure! That’s the kind of book I need – something with templates already there for me to use, so that I can try to get the rest of my idea down without totally mucking the whole thing up!

  95. Anonymous June 25, 2014 at 9:32 am #

Even if you can not draw What an inspiration to redesign the patterns you currently own. Looks like an awsome book.

  96. Deb Young June 25, 2014 at 9:33 am #

Even if you can not draw What an inspiration to redesign the patterns you currently own. Looks like an awsome book.

  97. Jill June 25, 2014 at 9:36 am #

I really spend a lot of time jumping from hobby to hobby.. Most of my high school years were spent drawing and doodling in my school diary… and sometimes I wish I had more time for just drawing. I do love to sketch out my plan for an outfit before I start sewing though… really helps me cement in my head what I want it to look like.. with full colour, fabric pattern and accesories šŸ™‚

    • Candace June 25, 2014 at 9:45 am #

I’m not very good at sketching, but love the idea of the fashionary book. My other talent (other then sewing like a crazy woman) is interior design. Being able to visualize a space and having the knowledge of textiles, I’m just a happy camper as long as I’m sewing or designing something.

  98. LinB June 25, 2014 at 9:39 am #

Can draw a little — actually pursued a degree in costume design, before I realized I am not built to live among theater folk. Sing a bit: my voice is a “nice, little voice.”
Have painted an entire house exterior all by myself, even the trim bits and the shutters. (Don’t know how artistic that was, but when I call myself a painter, that’s the sort of painting I mean. That, and stenciling on fabrics for sewing up garments.) Am in the beginning stages of writing the Great American Novel … must wait for a few more deaths in the community before I dare publish what is obviously based on People Whom I Know.

  99. Dilly June 25, 2014 at 9:44 am #

I’d like to enter please! I requested a Fashionary for Christmas and for my birthday earlier this year, but my husband went “off-list” for both occasions… As for artisticness (new word), I can draw although I hardly ever do it now, but I can’t paint for the life of me. I also inherited a love of graphic design from my parents (both graphic designers!) and pottery from my mum (who almost became a potter), but that’s not something that’s terribly easy to do as a home hobby! In other creativity, I also knit and crochet, and play double bass and piano (I used to write music too, but haven’t done that for a while). It’s interesting seeing all these comments about everyone else’s creativity!

  100. Catherine from Canada June 25, 2014 at 9:44 am #

I crochet, garden and design and build (hellion-resistant) furniture. Does that count? I’d love one of these books, a blank note book just doesn’t do it.

  101. Jenny June 25, 2014 at 9:45 am #

What a great giveaway! I tend to doodle, draw and sketch when I’m stressed or have too many ideas bouncing around in my head. I also sketch as a way to decide what I want to sew next. I even use colored pencils to get ideas of how I want my garment to look. Maybe I should blog about that! Thanks for the giveaway offer!

  102. Clothilde June 25, 2014 at 9:46 am #

Is baking considered an artistic talent? šŸ˜€
otherwise, I can draw a bit and like to think of myself as a decent singer!

  103. Candace June 25, 2014 at 9:47 am #

Iā€™m not very good at sketching, but love the idea of the fashionary book. My other talent (other then sewing like a crazy woman) is interior design. Being able to visualize a space and having the knowledge of textiles, Iā€™m just a happy camper as long as Iā€™m sewing or designing something.

  104. Mandi June 25, 2014 at 9:49 am #

Cool notebook! I like sewing, but I also paint, just for myself. So, sewing might be my only “public” artistic endeavor.

  105. Nathalie June 25, 2014 at 9:49 am #

That is really cool ! I like to paint but i’m not really good.

  106. Irene June 25, 2014 at 9:55 am #

I am afraid I don’t have any artistic talents but this sketchbook would be useful in keeping track of my sewing plans- I am always lost in too many sewing possibilities and I keep adding projects in my to-do list forgetting about the older ones. I believe that if I could illustrate these ideas I would be more persistent in pulling through my planned projects. Thanks for the giveaway!

  107. Meri June 25, 2014 at 9:58 am #

I love woodworking and papercrafts, but figurative drawing is something I’ve been meaning to work on! This sketchbook would be perfect for that, with just enough hand-holding!

  108. carly927 June 25, 2014 at 9:59 am #

The fashionary looks awesome. I’m not good at “art” per se, but I’ve never met a “craft” I couldn’t do.

  109. Cindy June 25, 2014 at 10:01 am #

I write poetry and short stories. That’s artistic, sort of. I wouldn’t try to illustrate them though. Lol Would love to have the book. It might be fun to attempt to sketch designs. I would definitely need the figures that are printed on the pages as a starting point.

  110. Charlene June 25, 2014 at 10:03 am #

Fantastic post! Thanks for including your sketches – they lead me to the Sewaholic Saltspring dress. I have been looking for a good maxi dress pattern for ages! Boom! I have very little artistic talent, I can knit though.

  111. Kristin June 25, 2014 at 10:05 am #

I love that little book! I used to draw quite a bit, not so much anymore šŸ™‚

  112. linda grogan June 25, 2014 at 10:06 am #

I have just gotten back into sewing after retiring. Amazing how much you can forget over time. Working on summer dress and tunic now. Buttonholes are my next challenge. I also love working with watercolors and my art journal. Also knit and embroider! Retirement is a dream!

  113. Shannon P June 25, 2014 at 10:07 am #

What an awesome sketchbook! I am terrible at drawing…although I have been forced by my 2 year old to learn to draw a passable Winnie the Pooh. My craftiness seems to include everything but drawing!

  114. Alessa Farbenfreude June 25, 2014 at 10:14 am #

Oh how cool! I’ve already seen those elsewhere (Carolyn from Handmade by Carolyn sketched a whole year of handmade outfits into one of them), but they sure sound amazing. šŸ˜€ It’s been ages since I last drew or painted, so that would be a nice encouragement!

  115. Kristin June 25, 2014 at 10:14 am #

I’m not particularly talented but have always enjoyed sketching — I hadn’t done any sketching in a super long time, but the desire to plan out my sewing projects inspired me to start again recently (although I’ve been using a way less fancier notebook than this!)

  116. hannah June 25, 2014 at 10:14 am #

I do other things beside sewing too, i’m training to be an architect, so generally I do things with my hands like model making, drawing, using computers to draw 3d images. I also like knitting and crocheting, but never have the patience to make anything adult sized haha! I would love this notebook! I’m trying not to buy any more sewing stuff until I’ve used a fair bit of my current supplies haha!

  117. Michelle Fuller June 25, 2014 at 10:17 am #

Hello, I am not much of an artist at all. I have though lately copied a croquet and have been sketching out my next or future makes in a notebook. It’s been fun and when I show people they were impressed. All I did was copy a croquet and line drawing of the pattern. Haha. I used to crochet as well but then I got carpal tunnel in my right hand and it hurts to crochet for any time over ten minutes.

  118. Jaxy357 June 25, 2014 at 10:24 am #

This looks amazing. I’d love to get myself one of these!

  119. monica L. June 25, 2014 at 10:24 am #

Ooh, now I really want one of these notebooks! I’ve actually been pretty artistic all my life. I’m just like you when it comes to copying things- I can copy something exactly right if I’m looking at it, but I’m not so good at coming up with something off the top of my head! When I was younger I won several different art competitions, including two times when I won first place at drawings I entered into my state fair. In the past few years I really haven’t done much drawing, but I’ve been thinking lately how I’d like to get back into it again!

  120. Julie June 25, 2014 at 10:30 am #

I am addicted to doodling and I LOVE anything red! I sew and craft and I like to repaint old furniture. Really enjoy your blog šŸ™‚

  121. Ruthie June 25, 2014 at 10:41 am #

Who doesn’t love a quick sketch? It’s the fastest way for me to see how a garment will look over my large hips~~

  122. Dala chin June 25, 2014 at 10:41 am #

I used to draw and paint in high school too! But it has sort of gotten away from me in adulthood. I really should pick it up again, and I love the idea of figures already imprinted for us to draw the fashion!

  123. venamaydesigns June 25, 2014 at 10:43 am #

What a fabulous book – can’t believe it hasn’t been done before! Seriously, if I don’t win I’m just gonna buy myself one. Totally love doodling and sketching but how useful to have all that sewing related info in one place! Fingers crossed!

  124. Renee June 25, 2014 at 10:43 am #

No drawing and sketching skills but I try anyway!

  125. Tracy June 25, 2014 at 10:48 am #

No drawing skills but I make great cookies.

  126. Erin June 25, 2014 at 10:49 am #

I am an avid knitter, moderately avid spinner, wannabe avid weaver and beginning to flirt with sewing. That book looks pretty cool.

  127. Helene June 25, 2014 at 10:55 am #

I can’t really draw but I can make a ton of stuff. Mostly I sew an knit now though.

  128. lifeisjustduckie June 25, 2014 at 10:57 am #

I’m a knitter and jewelry-maker outside of sewing. I love doodling, and drawing but those skills need some practice…this book looks wonderful! I love the dotted line outlines for the figures and the pictures in the start of the book.

  129. Forrest June 25, 2014 at 10:58 am #

I have no artistic ability but I did take one of those BYOB painting classes last night and it turned out pretty well!

  130. Aleksandra @ Liveaboard Takes the Suburbs June 25, 2014 at 11:05 am #

My artistic talents are limited, though I did take a drawing class when I studied in Paris. We did still life drawing one night a week and figure drawing — which I later came to realize involved drawing naked people — one night a week. I was OK with still life sometimes, but absolutely terrible at figure drawing. I like the little Fashionary outlines, though, that seems like it would be super helpful!

  131. Michelle June 25, 2014 at 11:21 am #

In addition to sewing love to crochet, cook and grow my own veg (kind of a craft!). Would love to use the book to help inspire new creations and pattern mash-ups!

  132. Laura June 25, 2014 at 11:28 am #

I knit! My sister has painting skills, and got most of the truly creative genes in the family.

  133. Alex June 25, 2014 at 11:31 am #

This book looks great! I like to try lots of different creative pursuits, other than sewing, I most commonly draw, paint, knit and crochet.

  134. Debbie June 25, 2014 at 11:32 am #

This is such a cool notebook. If I don’t win I am going to have to but one anyway!!

As well as sewing, I do knit and crochet. I have just taught myself to Tat (thanks to a great course on Craftsy). I bead and bake and am looking for a hairpin loom to try hair pin lace. I have been referred to as Martha Stewart the Second by family and friends ………as a compliment I think!!

When I was younger I did draw / sketch and have been thinking of getting back into it

    Thanks for a great giveaway.

  135. ebonyh June 25, 2014 at 11:40 am #

I’ve been seeing these around quite a lot lately, and now I totes feel like I need one! Excited for your watercolor class! I’ve been trying to find one near me, but in the meantime I’ve been self-teaching myself using a book. šŸ™‚ I identify as an artist because pretty much all creative expressions excite me. Sewing gets most of my time, followed by my first love: creative writing. Thanks for the giveaway; fingers crossed!

  136. lauraborealis June 25, 2014 at 11:42 am #

I loved to draw as a kid and have been contemplating trying again, especially with the amazing things people are doing with machine sketching.

  137. noho23 June 25, 2014 at 11:46 am #

Enter me! Enter me! I make kombucha, teach ukulele to teens, make soap, and make a passable marinara sauce. ā¤

  138. louise hine June 25, 2014 at 11:49 am #

I am exactly the same I can copy as good as the next woman but I’m totally rubbish at drawing from memory. This book would be fantastic for me and my 10 year old who’s just got her first sewing machine.

  139. Elizabeth Amy Hajek June 25, 2014 at 11:51 am #

Oh my goodness, I have wanted this sketchbook for so long! I love drawing, but lately I’ve been so busy sewing (costuming, that is) I haven’t had time to seriously draw. I feel like the outlines in this book would be tremendously helpful to get sketching again!

  140. Jenny June 25, 2014 at 12:02 pm #

This really does look like an awesome little tool! I keep a little sketch pad in my purse at all times, because you never know when inspiration will strike! As for talents other than sewing, I’m decent with illustration. It helps me pass the long hours at a desk job. But sewing remains top of the list of my crafting!

  141. Hannah June 25, 2014 at 12:04 pm #

I’m an artist on the side (check out my art/sketch blog here: http://thehannahblog.tumblr.com/ and website http://hellomynameishannah.com/). If you ever want to work on art with a few people or develop your skills further, you’re always welcome to shoot me an email or join in on http://justjingles.tumblr.com/post/89754553779/speedpaint-club.

  142. Anali June 25, 2014 at 12:06 pm #

Artistic talents beyond sewing? Not much, I am an avid knitter and can sometimes draw or sketch to save my life, but for the most part I’m pretty mediocre, that doesn’t stop me from doing it though šŸ™‚

  143. paisleyapron June 25, 2014 at 12:08 pm #

I don’t know if this would help me plan my sewing projects or take up all my time planning, but I sure want to find out!

  144. Denise June 25, 2014 at 12:08 pm #

Oh, I’ve been wanting this! I’m sad to say that I have zero artistic ability outside of sewing, but I am a musician. Does that count?

  145. Mary N. June 25, 2014 at 12:16 pm #

I too do watercolors from time to time. I have one that I did for an art project hanging up on my wall. My sister, however, does not sew, but has the real painting/drawing talent in the family.

  146. Molly June 25, 2014 at 12:21 pm #

I’ve been super curious about these sketch books for a while, but you’ve sold me. I used to be really crafty; I made things like dolls and jewelery and whatever…now that I sew, I don’t really do other crafts except I do love to garden, which I think can be a good creative outlet! But back to the sketch book, in addition to all the rad details, I think it would be super helpful in keeping all of my sewing ideas in one place. As it is, I have various sketchbooks scattered around and I never remember which one I was using for which project.

  147. Mari June 25, 2014 at 12:27 pm #

I love to sew but my drawing skills are nil however my granddaughter is totally enthralled with sewing and the design process. She designed her first dress at seven years old, picked the fabric, and sewed every stitch. She has dreams of designing and clothing children all over the world. I love it. I could not be prouder.

  148. Michelle Echeverria June 25, 2014 at 12:28 pm #

This is cool! I have a degree in interior design, so my artistic talents lie mostly in couches, tables etc. I would love to use this as a catalyst to branch out into human forms and clothing… but regardless… I could draw up a mean sofa for them to stand next to!

  149. Helen McIntosh June 25, 2014 at 12:31 pm #

I’ve done a bit of painting myself – oils though. I’m really terrible with no talent ot technique at all, but something about messing with those squidgy little tubes really pleases me!

  150. Ruth June 25, 2014 at 12:37 pm #

This looks great! As for artistic talent – I was OK at art at school, but I’m definitely a copier like you, and when I did well it was mainly to try to prove a point to a teacher who’d told me I wasn’t good enough to do art for my exams!

  151. Izzy Norwood June 25, 2014 at 12:38 pm #

Love this, perfect for recording all those fleeting ideas that I so easily forget

  152. quiver June 25, 2014 at 12:44 pm #

lovely drawings! If only they made this book with watercolor paper

  153. misscrayolacreepy June 25, 2014 at 12:45 pm #

I don’t have any artistic talent beyond sewing, womp womp. But knowing that the figures are drawn on the pages makes me want to give this book a shot!

  154. Tracey Walker June 25, 2014 at 12:58 pm #

You can’t win if you don’t play! I will probably buy this if I don’t win. My sketching abilities are terrible

  155. Daniela S. June 25, 2014 at 1:02 pm #

I don’t know if I have any artistic talent but I do like to sketch a bit. As for other creative outlets, I would love to learn to knit and quilt.

  156. Brittani Mosinski June 25, 2014 at 1:02 pm #

I am an avid dabbler… I like to try everything. I paint, draw, knit and even work in metal work… If I ever get myself in a spot when I have time I want to make closures for sweaters and the like.

  157. Ali June 25, 2014 at 1:05 pm #

Wow, this book is amazing! I would love to win a copy! I also knit, crochet and make jewellery. I spend too much time crafting!

  158. Carly Eloise Rowley June 25, 2014 at 1:08 pm #

This book is such a great idea! I am a musician as well as a crafter, I play flute, sing folky, and play a bit of ukulele šŸ™‚

  159. Christin Yingling June 25, 2014 at 1:15 pm #

What a neat product! I keep a binder of photos that I pull out of magazines/catalogs for my sewing inspiration but it would be cool to get back to drawing-something I haven’t pursued with vigor since I was a tween. I’m currently on a knitting kick (OALer here!) & always looking for new creative outlets…currently converting an old glass lamp shade (original from my 1950’s house) into a wall clock.

  160. Trice June 25, 2014 at 1:26 pm #

    Not entering the giveaway.

I love my Fashionary, I have the Women’s A4. I definitely try to take it with me everywhere. I think one day when I actually get to seat down at a table and have fun with it, I would love to use my watercolor pencils. I have a BFA with a focus in Graphic Design, I fell like I am a mediocre artist overall. Like you, I believe I am stronger in copying. Also, like you I was my clothes in cold water, I figure its the safe bet.
BTW, to San Diego right now is $168 SW. I am jealous of the cost to NYC for you, $99. Lucky

  161. clare June 25, 2014 at 1:27 pm #

Simple, but very useful and exciting. You could make notes for when fabric shopping as well. I’d love to start art classes, have all the stuff but keep dipping in and out. Having some one teaching you must be great.

  162. Sarah H June 25, 2014 at 1:30 pm #

Wow, what a great book. I’d love it for sketching ideas for outfits and modifications to patterns. As for my artistic skills, I’m not great at drawing but I seem to be OK at stained glass and silk painting!

  163. Grace June 25, 2014 at 1:30 pm #

I totally do! I was an artsy teen and got a BFA in studio art before my MS in fashion design. I have so, so many sketch books but nada one with croquis faintly printed for me. WANT.

  164. Shannon Snyder June 25, 2014 at 1:43 pm #

Before I had my son, I had a black and white darkroom & loved developing & printing photographs. I still have all the equipment, but haven’t used it in 14 years! I miss it a little, but not enough to switch back from sewing. Thanks for the chance to win the little sketch book. I’m crazy for built in bookmarks, why doesn’t every book have one?!

  165. Jenny June 25, 2014 at 1:47 pm #

I would love to be able to dray, but I can cook! This book looks fabulous.

  166. Jenny June 25, 2014 at 1:48 pm #

    OOps , draw not dray

  167. Emma June 25, 2014 at 1:54 pm #

Fashionary looks awesome! I used to be able to draw and paint but I got out of the habit of it.

  168. Suzanne van Vliet June 25, 2014 at 1:57 pm #

    Goodafternoon,

Not only do I sew but I am also a supermom and a gardneršŸ˜‰ really hope I win.

  169. T.N. June 25, 2014 at 2:02 pm #

I love to knit and cook!

  170. Ally June 25, 2014 at 2:07 pm #

I WASH EVERYTHING ON COLD TOO! Let’s see, for me its mostly sewing and knitting, some quilting and embroidery too!

  171. nessastardom June 25, 2014 at 2:09 pm #

I’ve always wanted one of these books I’ve been trained to write knitting patterns so I enjoy doing it not only for a job but for a hobby I always like to write patterns for designs that come into my head, one of these books would be fabulous for documenting my fun. When I was younger I pursued a lot of painting but as I got old I swapped for knitting and have never looked back I love it too much. šŸ˜€

  172. Jen June 25, 2014 at 2:19 pm #

I have no artistic talents like this but would LOVE to he able to draw out what I’m thinking about sewing or crocheting during the day, this is a perfect little book!

  173. Ashley P June 25, 2014 at 2:25 pm #

I wish I had more talents aside from sewing…right now that’s all I gots! šŸ˜‰

  174. Katie June 25, 2014 at 2:36 pm #

I don’t have too many artistic talents besides sewing, unless you count my day job as a video editor. I’d classify that as more creative than artistic. Especially hard to be “artistic” with clients breathing down your neck.

But I would love this book (and might have to buy it if I don’t win *crosses fingers*)!! Would’ve made planning my honeymoon wardrobe a lot easier!

  175. gneepy June 25, 2014 at 2:51 pm #

I’m a decent baker of german bread if this counts. And I’d love to have a Fashionary.

  176. Marchelle June 25, 2014 at 2:54 pm #

Tap dancing. I love to tap dance. I don’t do it regularly anymore but you might catch me doing a step or two while I’m cooking or folding laundry or other pursuits. I would love to be able to plan my sewing with sketches aswell and since I can’t draw at all, this would be useful!

  177. Catarina June 25, 2014 at 2:55 pm #

I love everything crafty and diy! I have built wood furniture, painted, sculpted, sketched, long begore getting into sewing. Not that it got me anywhere, but with nice family and friends you always get a compliment for the effort šŸ˜€

  178. Katie Biles June 25, 2014 at 2:58 pm #

I used to draw back when I was really little (like 10) and I still have some of them, It’s sad that I lost my way for so long, but I found my way back to you creative roots (partly in thanks to wonderful blogs like yours) and now I love sewing, but I will admit I haven’t yet tried drawing, maybe I should! This books looks awesome! =)

  179. Anca C June 25, 2014 at 3:04 pm #

i used to go to art school in middle school, that really helped me in my career later as an architect.

  180. Beth Holmes June 25, 2014 at 3:11 pm #

wow that sketchbook looks amazing! i can sew, knit a little bit (mostly mittens and scarves!) and i like to cross stitch occasionally, if i’m in the mood for a slower project. i also like to use felt a lot, it doesn’t fray! bliss šŸ™‚ thanks for the giveaway!

  181. Marie June 25, 2014 at 3:12 pm #

Your sketches look amazing. I don’t have any artistic ability what so ever. None – I even had to resubmit my art assignment when I was studying to be a primary school teacher.

  182. Dee Durrant June 25, 2014 at 3:15 pm #

I love these fashionary books – I’m terrible about planning my sewing projects and I think this would be really useful! My art skills are like yours – good but not good enough for a career… Although I notice that the more I sketch the better I get at it

  183. Amber Hunter June 25, 2014 at 3:34 pm #

I can completely relate to being an ace at copying stuff. I can duplicate anything I am looking at but I could never get it right if I was working off memory. This would be a handy little tool to help keep track of future projects and to make sure I am not just making a bunch of separates without fashion buddies. Thanks for the give away!

  184. Kimberly June 25, 2014 at 3:48 pm #

The book looks fun and fits right in with the sketching i did over the winter trying to plan out some outfits. I dabble in a lot of other arts – drawing, mini painting (warmachine/ hordes, reaper minis, etc.), and i have occasional delusions of being a writer… lol If I don’t win I might just cobble together one of these for myself since I’m taking a bookbinding class this summer.

  185. lauraalyss June 25, 2014 at 3:50 pm #

I spent much time drawing when I was younger, High School and before. More recently, I have been doing embroidery and applique on some of the items I am making- coin purses, scarfs, and so I started drawing again. I forgot how relaxing it is, like sewing.

  186. smeebot June 25, 2014 at 3:50 pm #

I used to love to draw too, but found that as my interest in other things picked up my interest in drawing (and other hobbies) waned. Someday I would love to be able to design my outfits more than just matching pattern to fabric so the fashionary book seems pretty cool.

  187. Rebekah June 25, 2014 at 4:06 pm #

As well as sewing I knit, spin and crochet, and have also dabbled in natural dyeing yarns and fibre. Basically I love the crafts that take you from the sheep’s back to the finished product, and think there is so much beauty to be found in that process, and all the variations therein.

  188. Angie H, June 25, 2014 at 4:15 pm #

I paint and can draw as well. As a busy mother and wife, I hardly have the time to do much more than sew though. Maybe someday!

  189. Jo June 25, 2014 at 4:15 pm #

I’d love to win. I am big on doodling like you, though I’m shy about it! I put some fashion drawings on my blog last year fit indie pattern month. I’m still embarrassed haha. I want to move beyond the amateur level šŸ™‚ glad you are enjoying the book!

  190. Shelley June 25, 2014 at 4:25 pm #

Ooh it’s just like the fashion design stencil book my daughter has but for big girls. I studied fine art at uni. I still paint and draw when I get the opportunity. I also sew, knit, felt and make jewellery. I really like to make big ceramic pots but am lacking an appropriate work space. I find that if I am not making I turn into a grumpy uptight bitch. Just a shame work and chores get in the way.

  191. Lola June 25, 2014 at 4:31 pm #

Such an inspiring and even practical book! Besides sewing, my artistic talents include baking kick ass breads, embroidering jeans with rock icons, tying and dyeing shibori. Oh…and being a high school science teacher;)

  192. Lucy June 25, 2014 at 4:32 pm #

Ha. I have minimal artistic skills in some areas – kind of drawing, kind of music (I played flute), kind of acting, kind of creative writing – but I don’t devote enough time to any of them to get really proficient. I’m quite good at cooking, but doing that every day will do that to you, lol.

  193. Trixie Lixie June 25, 2014 at 4:32 pm #

I studied at Art College 25 years ago and still love to do watercolour painting, drawing and Lino-cut printing, my main passion however is for sewing and I do like to draw my creations before I start.

  194. itssewimmaterial June 25, 2014 at 4:39 pm #

I’m currently doing a textile degree so my artistic side has been getting a good workout lately doing all my coursework!

  195. Debra June 25, 2014 at 4:42 pm #

I loved drawing as I was growing up. My favorite mediums were charcoals and pastels…I really liked the ability to manipulated them to appear exactly as I wanted. Now I’ve come back to it a bit for sewing, and hope to do much more as I begin to plan seasonal wardrobes and phase out of “impulse sewing” as much as possible.

  196. Hannah June 25, 2014 at 4:43 pm #

I love anything arty or crafty and have tried all sorts of crafts. I’m not a great artist, but have more recently started drawing when I find some time between all the plans for making new dresses, skirts, making cards, crocheting, knitting… the list goes on.

Have seen this book before and love the idea, it is quite hard work to draw a new outline of a model each time I want to quickly sketch a new outfit/ dress idea, so this would be great.

    Hannah.

  197. marywithrow June 25, 2014 at 4:45 pm #

I love to draw, I stick with the basics, pencils. I have tried my hand at watercolors recently and was pleasantly suprised on how well I did. I bought a set of watercolors for the children and they are quite talented as well, lol

  198. ninjajnin June 25, 2014 at 4:48 pm #

Sewing is my very big passion and takes a lot of my time. But beyond sewing. I love nearly everything can be done by hand. So i`m a big fan of diy. I have to try my hand on nearly every craft. But i`ve a special love for all kind of embrodery.

  199. Rebecca June 25, 2014 at 4:49 pm #

Aside from sewing, I love spray paint art – though, fortunately, I’m better clothed than my walls decorated!!

  200. Cathy June 25, 2014 at 4:49 pm #

Hmm, artistic skills? Nope, sorry. I can knit and bake but the results are seldom beautiful. My painting skills are limited to adding another coat to the outdoor furniture. I am awesome at that! Still, I would love a matching red Fashionary! Thanks for the giveaway.

  201. Amiria June 25, 2014 at 5:06 pm #

I used to make and sell bracelets, until sewing took over šŸ˜›

  202. Anna June 25, 2014 at 5:30 pm #

Count me in for the giveaway! That notebook is awesome!

  203. Lois June 25, 2014 at 5:40 pm #

My daughter would really love that book. She does graphic design and has done water colors and other crafts.

  204. Becky June 25, 2014 at 5:46 pm #

I really need to get my hands on one of these. As far as artistic talents go, I am a classically trained musician, which counts as an art. Though I actually started out as an art major/music minor for one semester of college! I did a lot of drawing/painting throughout my teenage years, but the art semester was just awful for me, so I ended up switching to music after one winter session of classes and the day before spring semester started. (Aren’t I so practical?) I have to admit that I’ve had a pretty severe mental block on the visual arts since then, and would love to get back into it for fun sometime, but it just hasn’t happened yet. But in the meantime, the Fashionary would be great for me because I could get my clothes ideas down on paper. Also, I always sucked at figure/portrait drawing–my strength was always more in landscapes.

  205. Karen June 25, 2014 at 6:09 pm #

So when can we expect your new designs to hit the PDF market or shelves?

  206. Hannah Ellis June 25, 2014 at 6:15 pm #

Ooh this is exciting! I really love drawing but I’m no good at it… so maybe this would be good to help me improve?? Heh.

  207. Stevie June 25, 2014 at 6:17 pm #

Great giveaway! I personally do not have any other talents. I’m a newbie to sewing and knitting; so maybe when I get better at these I can find the secret artist in me!

  208. Eme (@la_madalena) June 25, 2014 at 6:37 pm #

Me wants that cute little notebook!
I used to draw a lot but I stopped when my father had a stroke. For some mysterious reason I just could not do it anymore. But never had any real talent. I just happned to enjoy it very much.
Now I am learning to sew and the only things I draw are outfits. Love it!

  209. RED June 25, 2014 at 6:44 pm #

Ooooh I’ve been eyeing this book– my other talent is drawing (yay, degree in Visual Arts, boo, no $$$ to make it a career!). But like you, I do best when copying. I can do some photo-realistic portraits but haven’t drawn in a while. Sketching sewing project ideas sounds like a ton of fun, though!

  210. art and dangerous June 25, 2014 at 6:48 pm #

I know exactly what you mean by when you started sewing your other artistic ventures got a little quieter. I’m a graphic artist by day but someday they will catch me drafting patterns in Illustrator…lol. I like this little book and I’d love to take a better look at that tape measure!

  211. Candace June 25, 2014 at 7:06 pm #

Wow. What a rocking sketchbook! It’s like a moleskeine on crack. My artistic side made me become a design geek. I design and code for the web and make interactive “stuff”. Working on some spoonflower fabrics, too.
I also love knitting and silk painting, though I’m quite craptacular at the painting. Thanks for sharing this awesome book! I love your sketches.

  212. Heather June 25, 2014 at 7:27 pm #

I was the same way in high school. I was always taking at least one art class, was part of the set crew for our drama productions, I was even VP of the art club! I still have tons of portfolios & notebooks filled with tragic teenage goth sketches & paintings, hehe. This little book looks awesome and I think I’ll be buying one either way.

  213. Elizabeth June 25, 2014 at 7:30 pm #

I was really into art as a kid and took a heap of art classes outside of school. I don’t think I was ever any good, I just loved the crafting. Glad I found sewing to put my craftiness to good use. I would LOVE to win this book. Thanks for the giveaway!

  214. Liz June 25, 2014 at 7:32 pm #

When I was a kid, I made a shit ton of origami, which I still use to make crazy packaging for presents. Nowadays, aside from sewing and costuming, I bake mostly french macarons…does that count as art talent? (Sorry, can’t hear you over the nomnomnom) ^_~

  215. madeonthecouch June 25, 2014 at 7:36 pm #

I draw and paint with watercolours a bit, and I love embroidering sketches! I’m not good at it, but I don’t think thats the point- I do it because I need stress relief (I’m studying a degree where this semester I’ve done eight exams, and I have one more to go today!) And because we all need a way to do something that we can look at and say “I made this, so t me its valuable.” And also because why the hell not!

    • LinB June 26, 2014 at 10:49 am #

Why the hell not, indeed? You go, girl.

  216. crystal June 25, 2014 at 7:38 pm #

    sweeeeet!

  217. Jessica June 25, 2014 at 8:24 pm #

Ooh this sketchbook looks rad! I have always been doodler…beyond that, I am OK at fashion illustration and I used to oil paint. I’m the same as you though, I would always paint while copying another picture, usually a page pulled from a calendar!

  218. veronica June 25, 2014 at 9:04 pm #

I am one of those people that cant draw a straight line. When I try to plan ideas for sewing seems I cant keep them in one spot, they end up scattered everywhere. So something like this would be a real prize.

  219. Stephanie June 25, 2014 at 9:13 pm #

Hey.. I knit and am into photography..

I have a similar book but not as cool as this one. They are a great idea and I use quite a lot.

  220. dressingtherole June 25, 2014 at 9:14 pm #

Ooooh, that sketchbook looks amazing – just what I need! I always loved to draw as a kid, but like you I can only draw stuff I’m looking at – my figures always come out lopsided :P. My main non-sewing artistic thing is music – I play piano for a living!

  221. TinaLou June 25, 2014 at 9:19 pm #

I can’t draw worth beans – proportions no less? HA! I love the idea of the faint body outlines, and I’ve been inspired by your sketches for summer sleeveless shirtdresses. iPS – One of the recent Threads Insiders had a tidbit about markers, and suggested that Papermate felt tip markers don’t bleed through pattern tissue onto the surface below. I have not tried this out for myself, so go for it if you dare!!

  222. vinthillvintage June 25, 2014 at 9:19 pm #

I love all the info and inspiration pages.
As for artistic talents, you name it and I do it. My office/studio is bursting at the seams with canvas, pencils, printing inks, yarn, fabric, beads, clay and everything in between! So what’s one more tiny red book added to the mix, right? šŸ˜‰

  223. Karen Hughes June 25, 2014 at 9:24 pm #

I haven’t drawn in years, and I’m not sure if I had any talent for it, but i love this sketchbook. I’ve done tons of embroidery and quilting, but I’m not sure that is a talent either. I’m uber clumsy though, so I have a talent for bumping into things, tripping over things and general clumsiness.

  224. Nancy Smith June 25, 2014 at 9:30 pm #

I can draw and craft but I have to be copying something. I can’t simply come up with my own stuff. I can also crochet, cross stitch and quilt.

  225. Crystal Lattanzio June 25, 2014 at 9:32 pm #

Oh my, this is fantastic, if I don’t win I will buy one!!!! As for any other artistic skills, they may be trumped by that of most toddlers. But I love to color with my kids. Does that count?

  226. Annie K June 25, 2014 at 9:42 pm #

This little red book is the answer for my consternation over what I should use to create a croquis as inspired by The Collette Sewing Handbook. I am anxious to get started! Pick me! Oh, as far as other talents – I play around with knitting (mostly lace), quilting, beading, a bit of music here and there. I used to try to draw, but really, that was not going anywhere unless you count all those stick people I drew all over my high school notebooks. They did all kinds of activities, but were never fleshed out. It was better that way . . .

  227. Beth June 25, 2014 at 10:02 pm #

Oo! Oooo! So I loved to draw and paint. I’ve painted a lot of chimps, my favorite animal. Once for a boyfriend I painted him in a space ship for his bday. I painted a picture of my brother based off of a funny baby pixture of him (he’s four years older). So lots of weird stuff.
Now give me the fashionary plZ

  228. LadyxBec June 25, 2014 at 10:09 pm #

I have no artistic talent beyond sewing. At all. At one point I tried doing little drawings of things I wanted to sew but they lookedā€¦.not quite right. Perhaps this little book could help me out šŸ™‚

  229. Barbara June 25, 2014 at 10:27 pm #

thanks for the give-away! Like you, before I fell in love with sewing, I used to paint and draw, sometimes on silk but mainly canvases.

  230. Shannon June 25, 2014 at 10:33 pm #

When I was younger I used to have some decent drawing skills. I used to paint and play with pastels. Like you, my skills have faded as I moved into other creative areas, like sewing and cake decorating.

  231. Gina June 25, 2014 at 10:42 pm #

I’ve never been much of a illustrator, so having a book like this would be so helpful for me! Aside from sewing, I like to get my craft on making jewelry. I also have a bit of a green thumb, and I love to make terrariums/planters for my apartment and teeny tiny patio.

  232. Suzie June 25, 2014 at 10:48 pm #

ThatĀ“s so cool! I have the fashionary panels, which are great fo putting on a pin board but not for carrying around! IĀ“m absolutley crap at drawing, doodling, painting, etc. But I play the guitar, flute and just started with aerial hoop. Although I wont say that I have a big talent for it šŸ™‚

  233. Nikki H. June 25, 2014 at 11:00 pm #

I have done a few paintings in my time. I took a few art classes in college and produced some works I’m proud of, especially charcoal drawings. Charcoal is like magic. I totally relate to you though, my skills are passable when copying but I don’t have much originality. And I always trace my croquis when doing fashion drawing so I’d love this book.

  234. Sally June 25, 2014 at 11:44 pm #

Before my addiction to sewing I was a struggling calligrapher. I truly loved doing it for friends’ invitations, etc. but now my love is taking granddaughters’ fashion designs and bringing them to life (at least a semblance of them)

  235. gingerjac June 26, 2014 at 12:03 am #

Ohhh I need this… am soooo bad at artwork / painting / drawing.. my Art teacher basically gave me the direction for, and “showed” me how to shade (ie painted the whole portrait) of my Senior Art project. Needless to say I got an A… as he was the one marking it… WInner.. Um… I’m a decent baker & am pretty ace at cutting out patterns while my toddler is sitting on the fabric? :)))

  236. ljhs June 26, 2014 at 12:03 am #

Hi, I love to knit and will try my hand at all sorts of crafts.

  237. Lisa June 26, 2014 at 12:05 am #

I’m not much for drawing (I’m trying to teach myself fashion illustration and design, and it’s a slow process), but I love dancing. I’ve danced ballet or jazz or modern almost all my life, to the point where I’m maybe trying to make this my career. I’ve dabbled in hand-lettering, graphic design, writing, and almost a dozen other hobbies, but dance has always been my creative outlet.

  238. c June 26, 2014 at 1:09 am #

i am a dabbler. or have a.d.d. or because of that. now that i’m enjoying my 50’s, i’m trying to refine. since i never leave a pattern alone, this would be wonderful for recording my changes.

  239. Myra Pastuch June 26, 2014 at 1:27 am #

My dad taught me some basic work working skills as a kid, so I’ve dabbled in scroll saw work, a bit of wood turning. But I wouldn’t say any of my work is very good (or artistic). Thanks for the giveaway – I’d love to win.

  240. Lynne June 26, 2014 at 1:52 am #

This book looks great, thank you for the chance of winning. Does doodling smiley faces count as artist talent?! šŸ˜‰

  241. Georgia June 26, 2014 at 2:09 am #

My drawing skills are very limited but I need to improve if I want to get into Costume Design and Production so something like this would be really helpful!

  242. Rennai June 26, 2014 at 2:22 am #

Oh I love this book and will get one for sure. I am a Hairdresser so yes quite creative especially when people let me chose for them. I draw designs all the time so this would make it easier not having to get proportions right.

  243. Sharon June 26, 2014 at 2:44 am #

This book is awesome. I love to sew and knit and have just tried my hand at sketching. Im absolutely crap at sketching people and portions I have no idea. This little book would be so handy. I could make a few people envious of my new skills :).

  244. quattre June 26, 2014 at 4:01 am #

Ahem. I don’t have any talent whatsoever, but I’d like to win the book anyway…

  245. Mary June 26, 2014 at 4:07 am #

I like drawing too, not done much since school though. Like you I can’t draw anything from memory either! But I just love making things, anything!!

  246. Elena June 26, 2014 at 4:23 am #

An intriguing question! I love to act, though whether I’m any good at it I can’t say for sure šŸ˜€ Does that count as artistic? Anyway, thanks so much for this giveaway!

  247. Amy June 26, 2014 at 4:49 am #

I’m new to sewing but love all things creative. I draw, make greetings cards, bake a lot, made a whole bunch of Christmas decorations last year and also went on a papercutting course which was AMAZING. Basically I just can’t stop making stuff ha ha. This sketch book would be an awesome addition to my addiction

  248. janetsharp June 26, 2014 at 5:16 am #

Hiya Lladybird. Fascinating little book you have introduced us to, I could make great use of something like that. As well as sewing I love to dye yarn and knit it, spin it too sometimes! Thanks for the generous giveaway, am sure the lucky winner will be soooooo happy. G’day.

  249. docksjo June 26, 2014 at 5:42 am #

Knitting, Music, Photography, 3D visualizing and the art of chemistry. I think all of them counts as art depending on how you used them, especially laboratory chemistry with require skill and a sense of what is right/enough. I have made my own version of a Fashionary with fashion templates but is would be wonderful to get a real one with all the extra in it.

Very awesome and your sketching skillzzz by far surpass mine

  251. Pamela H. June 26, 2014 at 5:55 am #

I think most people who enjoy sewing have translated this pleasure into other avenues as well. I don’t focus on particular hobby (other than sewing), but my creative side gets indulged with home decorating & repair, cooking, and attempting to live aesthetically.

  252. Shari June 26, 2014 at 6:12 am #

What a very cool find. Thanks for sharing, i knit and sew (neither enough).

  253. ValM June 26, 2014 at 6:16 am #

Hi ! You should look a this blog: http://handmadebycarolyn.blogspot.fr/search/label/paper-doll%20project
this Australian had a project last year (all year) with her fashionary and she called it “the paper doll project”.

  254. geni June 26, 2014 at 6:36 am #

Artistic? I like to think so šŸ™‚
My primary talent is sewing and I’ve just recently begun designing my own clothes.I can draw from my head, but usually copy a base and design around it. My fashion drawings are quite elementary…but they get the point across! I hope to winnnnnnn!

  255. Greta June 26, 2014 at 7:34 am #

My sketching skills are quite limited, and I’m just getting in to sewing, so I could definitely see this coming in handy! My artistic abilities are mainly centered around yarn: knitting, crocheting, and weaving, but every now and then I like to try out a new craft. šŸ™‚

  256. Mai Kesamaa June 26, 2014 at 7:49 am #

Besides sewing i’m also good at knitting and crocheting. This Fashionery book looks so cool and handy, i really hope that i win!

  257. Jane June 26, 2014 at 7:52 am #

I’m the same as you, great at copying, not so much if it was from memory! Used to love art at school, haven’t really done much since leaving. This book does look really cool, I can imagine stapling little swatches of fabric next to each drawing too.

  258. Tao Jassi June 26, 2014 at 10:08 am #

I love the Fashionary! It’s so helpful in my coursework and I use it to refference in my technical work too. I totally recommend this to any artist to develop their skills! Love it!

  259. sara June 26, 2014 at 10:16 am #

I draw, paint and enjoy doing collage work as well!

  260. Nicole S. June 26, 2014 at 11:00 am #

I used to draw and color in high school and college, but I definately needed inspiration in clothing my figures in interesting things, mostly it was a variation of t-shirts and pants.

  261. amcclure2014 June 26, 2014 at 11:00 am #

I’ve dabbled in various artistic activities over the years – knitting, garden design, painting (kinda by numbers!), tapestry, modelling, glass decorating etc – but never sewing, until now. I wondered about this book – please count me in for the draw. Thanks

  262. happysewer June 26, 2014 at 11:27 am #

What a great idea. I carry a sketch book for ideas and samples and this would really help to tie everything together

  263. Luisa S June 26, 2014 at 11:59 am #

I’ve knit socks, scarves, and sweaters in the past, but sewing will be forever!

  264. Paula C. June 26, 2014 at 12:19 pm #

Is cooking artsy? Love the Fashionary

  265. Lucy Bowen June 26, 2014 at 1:21 pm #

Book looks fabulous. I love to knit, but also draw – like you I’m a copier! Also like to bake and do some cake decoration – mainly sugar flowers.

  266. Katie June 26, 2014 at 1:55 pm #

Long ago I had the choice between going to art college or a liberal arts college. I chose the latter and in the decade or so since I have often wondered what I would be doing now if I had chosen passion over practicality. I am a compulsive sketcher and since beginning to sew for myself about six years ago, many of my sketches have become fashion design related. This notebook would be perfect–and would spare many of my other sketchbooks from my random bursts of fashion inspiration.

  267. Ali M June 26, 2014 at 1:58 pm #

Oh that’s such a great idea! Thank you for the giveaway. I embroider, and I um.. cook artistically? Ok maybe that last one if iffy..

  268. Jennifer Blackman June 26, 2014 at 2:05 pm #

That book is amazing! Definitely going on my Christmas wishlist. I love to sew, cook, crochet, and play music on the piano (does that count. šŸ™‚ ).

  269. Robin W June 26, 2014 at 2:10 pm #

Oh my goodness! My daughter is a dance teacher and would LOVE this for costume designs!

  270. Kate June 26, 2014 at 2:33 pm #

This looks so cool – I would love to try it out! I’m okay at drawing clothes, but terrible with proportions of people, which can make it frustrating. When I was a kid, I used to love paper dolls – I would buy these fancy Dover books of paper dolls and clothes, but then trace the doll to be able to draw my own clothes for her w/o worrying about drawing the people. Lots of fun! As for artistic talent… I like to paint, but I’m not sure if I’m very talented at it. šŸ™‚

  271. Virginia June 26, 2014 at 3:40 pm #

I have no artistic talent apart from imagination! That’s why I love sewing – matching patterns and fabric is the artistic part, then the making of it is very guided – just follow the instructions (in the main) to get what you want (in the main) šŸ™‚

  272. Jeanne June 26, 2014 at 4:06 pm #

I love to cook, garden and create mosaics. I’m just starting to design my own patterns and would enjoy having this book for sketches!

  273. Lila June 26, 2014 at 4:38 pm #

I actually studied fine arts but I specialized in conservation of art šŸ™‚ My drawing skills are good but my painting…..xD could use some practicing. That book looks amazing! Hopefully I’ll be lucky this time šŸ˜›

  274. Ines June 26, 2014 at 5:10 pm #

Im an amateur junkie, meaning I do a whole bunch of artistic things so do, but hey I have a ton of fun doing it!

  275. Lisa June 26, 2014 at 6:04 pm #

Let’s see, artistic ability, other than sewing. I dance and write but I didn’t think I had artistic abilities such as painting or drawing until about a year ago. So much so that If I attempted drawing Stick People and you could actually tell that it’s stick people, I was happy.

About a year ago, out of the blue, my fiancee bought for me an acrylic paint set. I had such a good time with it, that he brought home a sketch book and pencils for me to try. I’m hooked. I practice often and have recently started drafting my own patterns. My sketches are still very rough (like a preschooler drew them) but I’m getting better. I just recently learned of Fashionary, and OMG! this would help so much.

  276. Linda Corscadden June 26, 2014 at 6:43 pm #

Artistic talent? My cooking and gardening is creative. I am part of a handbell choir and I am told that some of my interpretation of my notes are creativešŸ˜šŸŽ¶.

  277. Carol S June 26, 2014 at 8:34 pm #

I knit, I cook and am generally crafty, I would love to start putting down on paper all the ideas i have for sewing.

  278. Annie June 26, 2014 at 8:55 pm #

Your drawing is great! I am not sure I have many other artistic talents besides interior decorating and sewing. I would love to have a figure pre-drawn for me, I used to sketch all kinds of crazy 80’s outfits when I was a kid.

  279. Sarah Landry June 26, 2014 at 9:08 pm #

Woww this book looks amazing!! I actually started sewing not very long ago. I’ve been wanting to learn for many years, but never took the time to. Shame on me for waiting this long because it is just te beat therapy ever! And a friend refered me to your blog and sering everything awsome you do it gave me that boost i needed to start so thank you.

I love to cook and make birthday cakes and i’ve been crocheting for many years also

I hope to win this otherwise i will ho out and buy it for sure!

  280. Stacia June 26, 2014 at 11:14 pm #

I love making paper flowers, but I focus on all sorts of hand-based skills as a wedding planner. šŸ™‚

  281. Caroline June 26, 2014 at 11:18 pm #

I love making things and have taken all sorts of classes from weaving and sewing to making small pieces of furniture and little Shaker style boxes. I’ve worked through a few chapters of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain but need a lot more practice. Winning this would motivate me to get the pencils out again. Your sketching is great!

  282. Show and Tell Meg June 26, 2014 at 11:58 pm #

Before I was into sewing and knitting, my creative outlet was film photography. It still is to a small extent – I love manipulating film with weird chemicals (coffee developer, anyone?) since you never know how it will turn out. And your art skills are so much better than you give yourself credit for! This is such a cool book – and I’m glad it has outlines cause I can’t draw for crap, lol.

  283. Anna June 27, 2014 at 1:16 am #

So cool! I love how portable the red sketch book is. I’ve also dabbled with drawing/painting when I was younger. And I had a period when I was very in to making jewelry and even schooled as silvesmith but hey, not a lot of job opportunities there so … šŸ˜‰ I’m content being creative as a hobby.

  284. Megan June 27, 2014 at 1:57 am #

None, but I wish I did. My sisters do and I’m jealous!

  285. kate June 27, 2014 at 3:29 am #

I bead, which is cool because I can make jewellery to match the clothes I make! Love the look of the fashionary, great idea.

  286. 66stitches June 27, 2014 at 4:05 am #

This is such a great giveaway! What a fab book. I have zero artistic talent (besides sewing… ish…), BUT, I can get the most groceries into the fridge. I challenge anyone here to beat my amazing fridge-stacking skills.

  287. T. Wimes June 27, 2014 at 6:09 am #

I don’t have a lick of drawing skills but my daughter does. She loves fashion design and is learning to sew. This would be a great gift for her.

  288. lynl June 27, 2014 at 7:41 am #

I would love to have this Fashionary! I have NO visual art skills whatsoever. I am a proud music teacher but my students laugh at my stick people when I try to-er-“illustrate” teaching points. Thanks for the chance and the giveaway!

  289. juckiko June 27, 2014 at 7:45 am #

This little books just look fab! It would same me from spreading my notes and pseudo-sketches all over ahah. Apart from sewing, I loooove baking and cooking. I used to write, but that was before (yeah, probably one of these weird things you start as a teenager, a sort of growing process). Being a mum, I sort of have to be into creative things now, ahah.

  290. anniehanks June 27, 2014 at 8:04 am #

Oohhh — my artistic talents are limited but I can churn out a decent sketch, cook a yummy meal, and mix a wicked great cocktail.

  291. Sallie June 27, 2014 at 8:57 am #

I’m a double bass player! Well, I was until I had kids and moved 5 times in 3 years… The fashionary looks great; I only wish that drawing was one of my talents!

  292. Melissa June 27, 2014 at 9:12 am #

I’ve been wanting one of these for a while now; it would be awesome to win one! Does playing an instrument count as artistic?

  293. K-Dee June 27, 2014 at 10:21 am #

Oh this looks like so much fun! I have no artistic talent drawing but with all the helps it looks pretty simple!

  294. karlund89 June 27, 2014 at 10:35 am #

I like to make artistic cakes and cupcakes, But I make pretty much everything paint, sketch, leather work, knitting, anything i can get my hands on šŸ™‚

  295. Helen June 27, 2014 at 11:34 am #

    I like ceramics. =)

  296. Colleen June 27, 2014 at 12:36 pm #

Ooooooh, I love to draw and I love to sew. And red is my favorite color in the world. Did they make this for me?????

  297. Courtney June 27, 2014 at 1:25 pm #

    Your sketches look fab!
Whenever I sketch my designs they rarely look like the FO! Perhaps this sketchbook would help.
As for artistic talents- I play and teach the flute, does that count?

  298. lovelolabk June 27, 2014 at 1:33 pm #

gawd, i remember a time when i was really really good at fashion sketching.
I taught myself how to play the guitar and was actually pretty impressive at strumming out guns and roses solos.

  299. andisocialAndi June 27, 2014 at 3:15 pm #

What an amazing little book! I sew, knit, draw, and paint šŸ™‚

  300. Trinity June 27, 2014 at 5:02 pm #

At risk of being cocky, I’d say I have quite some artistic talent. I’m taking at arts intensive path at my highschool, and am hoping to go into textile design! I’ve always been crafty, and even my preschool teachers commented on it. Thanks for having GREAT giveaways!!!

  301. auraoriano June 27, 2014 at 10:54 pm #

I love to trace so that is the extent of my artistic abilities. Fun tape measure though!

  302. Rebecca June 28, 2014 at 1:05 am #

Cool! Please enter me in the giveaway! I used to work at a Craft Center and have dabbled in pretty much everything except woodworking and welding. I got pretty good at screenprinting, throwing pots, and bookbinding. I used to teach bookbinding and have random, empty journals all over my house.

  303. Karina Ward June 28, 2014 at 1:48 am #

The sketch book is awesome! I’m a paper crafter and love rubber stamping.

  304. Victoria Baumann June 28, 2014 at 2:23 am #

I love paper crafting and knitting as well as sewing I just started doing cross stitch and I really enjoy that as well. But sewing is by far my favorite.

  305. sherri June 28, 2014 at 7:07 am #

When I am not sewing I like making handmade cards.

  306. Sonja June 28, 2014 at 8:46 am #

Wow, I need this so desperately :), I have so many ideas to sew, to many to make them all. So I have draw several pictures already, to store my Ideas and to get some inspiration for my sewing projects :).

  307. Mae June 28, 2014 at 10:23 am #

Wow sounds great! I’d totally carry that around in my bag everyday! Does doodling count as an artistic pursuit? Because I do enjoy doodling!

  308. elentari95 June 28, 2014 at 11:12 am #

I love drawing and I’m rather good at it.. What I lack is the knowledge of how to draw all those little deatils, like ruffles or sleeve plackets – how cool that fashionary has extra pages where they show how exactly they look like!

  309. Katy June 28, 2014 at 12:59 pm #

I need this sketchbook for my sewing projects! Thanks for the giveaway!

  310. Rhi Graves June 28, 2014 at 2:51 pm #

We were gonna use these instead of moodboards for the fashion show I organised and designed for at uni, but nobody got their act together and bought them… I’d completely forgotten they existed but might have to go and buy one now haha, it’d be so useful!

  311. annemarie June 28, 2014 at 2:54 pm #

Oooo that looks awesome! I used to draw all the time and I’ve just started picking it up again. I think I need one of these little books!

  312. Marianne June 28, 2014 at 5:38 pm #

I just found your blog through untangling-knots and I like it a lot. I am new to sewing but I have crochet and knitted for quite a long time. I do sketch quite a bit and this looks like a very informative, handy and creative book.

  313. Louise June 28, 2014 at 6:45 pm #

I would love the fashionary. I wou

  314. Carla June 28, 2014 at 6:49 pm #

Oh I’d love to win that. I recently took a fashion sketching class in the spring, and I really enjoyed it! It was basically all the reasons I love drawing and art. Aside from sewing, I’m good at knitting and doing simple work on cosplay wigs.

  315. Erin June 28, 2014 at 10:18 pm #

Cute! Hmmm…other artistic skillzzz….I like to do hand-lettered signs, plus knitting and embroidery.

  316. phoquess June 29, 2014 at 12:17 am #

I used to draw a ton in high school. I was pretty decent too, but only at certain things. I started to lose interest when I realized I didn’t care much about improving. Plus then I went to college and had to actually take notes instead of just doodling on everything.

  317. Keri June 29, 2014 at 4:06 pm #

I can’t draw at all, so would love this book to help! As well as sewing, I also knit (a little) and cook. i used to do photography, collage, silkscreen… but haven’t done any of that in decades.

  318. Alison Clare June 29, 2014 at 4:29 pm #

Unfortunately I’m mediocre at all other artistic things, including drawing!

  319. Hari June 29, 2014 at 5:45 pm #

Wow would love to win! As for artistic skills I was the class artist in grade 6 does that count? šŸ™‚

  320. Gwynne June 29, 2014 at 6:09 pm #

I’ve started papercutting, but I cannot draw for the life of me!

  321. :: TĆa Cuervito :: June 29, 2014 at 8:44 pm #

I’ve been wanting and wanting this sketchbook for more than a year, and yet I haven’t bought it… Maybe I can win this copy!

As for artistic habilites, I completed a two year course in theatre arts, and loved it, though never pursued a career in drama. The funny thing is how often my friends call me ‘drama queen’, given the expressions and voice changes I use when telling stories.

  322. Whitney June 29, 2014 at 9:09 pm #

Before I got into sewing, I was and still am very into sketching especially with pencil crayons. What got me into sewing in the first place was wanted to realize the sketches of countless clothes I drew.

  323. Crystal June 30, 2014 at 1:54 am #

I love this idea. But I have a friend who would love it more would be cool to pass it her way šŸ™‚

  324. Alex June 30, 2014 at 2:49 am #

This book looks so awesome! Could have really done with something like that when I drafted for my first sewing competition last week (a pair of hatchet job shorts upcycled from two mens polo shirts)

    • koreakiwi June 30, 2014 at 6:10 am #

What a great book!! So completely cool for doodling/planning sewing projects šŸ™‚ I make jewelry, knit and crochet as well as sew. I even do a little drawing/painting on the side, but not so often these days.

  325. Sandy June 30, 2014 at 7:31 am #

Wow! Looks like a cute creative book šŸ™‚ in addition to sewing I love painting and sketching. Thanks for the giveaway!

  326. ltinuviel June 30, 2014 at 8:22 am #

Awesome sketchbook! I’m starting to dream about it šŸ™‚ I have a recent crush on sketchbooks, planners and journals and this one combines journal+fashion, yay!
Thank you for the giveaway šŸ™‚

  327. Sara K June 30, 2014 at 9:17 am #

I come from a big family of artistic/creative people, and I feel like I’ve tried a little bit of everything at this point. When I’m not making clothes or doing science (my day-job is research scientist), I’m a semi-pro photographer. I also dabble in miniature figure painting.

  328. Deb Young June 30, 2014 at 12:02 pm #

I can usually accomplish anything I have a mind to. The real problem is making myself take the time to do the things i want to do over the things i feel i need to do. What an awsome book Fashionary Sketchbook. Everyone needs a place to log ideas.

  329. yarningoverthedays June 30, 2014 at 1:57 pm #

I would adore this book. I’m not an exceptional sketcher but, I am decent. In addition to being a newbie sewer, I love to crochet and knit.

  330. liazak June 30, 2014 at 4:22 pm #

Gah, I have this in my amazon cart for so long! I really want this! Hahahaha
My daughter is finally the age where she can use water colors and she LOVES it, and I enjoy our artsy time together. She is way better then me though (she is almost two- that says a lot about my talent… haha!)
BUT i am very musical. I play 5 instruments and can hold a tune! So theres that šŸ˜‰

  331. christi June 30, 2014 at 4:50 pm #

hi! i was about to buy a book on anatomy and on how to draw mannequins.. this sketchbook makes beautiful sketches really easy. love it! go on building skills in the watercolor course šŸ™‚ many thanks for hosting the giveaway!

  332. Rebecca June 30, 2014 at 9:42 pm #

Love the look of the book (and your sketches are FAB!). I am definitely in the straight-line-with-a-ruler artistic camp. At school (feels like long ago!) graphics was my best subject – building plans, elevations, etc. Maybe that’s why I love the formula of sewing so much?! Who knows. But i DO know those little dot drawings are definitely necessary for someone like me to actually produce semi-realistic sewing ideas. Would love to win!

  333. Ni July 1, 2014 at 5:06 am #

Besides sewing I can also play the violin and sketch!! šŸ™‚ Would love to have this book to sketch all my crazy sewing ideas!

  334. Deanna July 1, 2014 at 12:32 pm #

Sewing is currently my only artistic outlet but I used to dance as a kid. Does that count?

  335. edukedesigns July 1, 2014 at 4:50 pm #

    Wow love this book!
To enjoy myself and to share with the children I teach how to sew!!!!!

  336. Mady July 2, 2014 at 4:25 am #

I try to become better in fashion illustration, so this would be very helpful! I love your drawings! Other than sewing, I knit and I Iove to photograph.

  337. powell2317 July 2, 2014 at 5:14 am #

I love these books! In addition to sewing/knitting I also love lino & screen printing although sewing takes up most of my time!

  338. Susie July 2, 2014 at 6:04 am #

Oh my god I used to have a book that was just like the drawing at the front of the book and I lost it, so I am definitely getting me one of these!! I crochet more than I sew and I like to embroider and cross stitch too!

  339. criskov@yahoo.com July 18, 2014 at 7:25 pm #

Because of your review and after looking at the website, I ordered a copy.

On the computer the print seemed fine but when I got it, I was surprised at how small it was.

And the pages that you say have a faint outline are blank for me.

I was wondering if the black version that is larger would be easier to see?

I’ll have to contact the company, because otherwise I think the book would be very helpful.

    • LLADYBIRD July 20, 2014 at 12:33 pm #

I haven’t seen the larger version; I just have access to the smaller one. But I assume the larger one probably does have a bigger print, so if you’re having trouble reading it, I’d absolutely recommend going up a size. The outline pages should NOT be blank, though, sounds like you got a bad one! Definitely contact the company, because that doesn’t sound right at all! Sorry your first experience hasn’t been so great šŸ˜¦

  340. Joyi January 12, 2015 at 9:42 am #
