Completed: Be-Zazzle’d McCall’s 6887 (+ a GIVEAWAY!)

20 Apr

I shared a little sneak peek of this dress in my last post (which, by the way – if you haven’t browsed through the comments, you absolutely should! I LOVED reading everyone’s stories!), and I had quite a few comments and emails from people asking what the pattern was and where I got the fabric. I’m sorry that I had to hold out on y’all – photography was just NOT happening that day – but I’m happy to be able to share the whole shebang with you today! Hopefully you’ll think it was worth the wait 😉

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

Introducing – my first make for Summer 2015, the Be-Zazzle’d Pineapple dress 😀 I don’t ever name my makes (partially because that would be a LOT of names to come up with, and partially because, well, as you can clearly see – I’m not very good at naming things hahaha), but naming this one was just toooo easy. Sorry if it made you groan. DGAF.

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

I guess we should talk about the fabric first, because it’s slightly more of a focal point than the pattern (tho I promise we will get to the pattern soon!). It’s hard to see from these far-out pictures, but my dress is covered in tiny pineapples! Cartoon-y pineapples, to be exact, since we all know those are the cutest pineapples. And, unlike cherries, I actually really really really love pineapples. I have been known to eat an entire pineapple in one sitting, and I have no regrets. Well, maybe my mouth does, but it has learned to deal.

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

Here’s a close-up of the fabric. Isn’t it so awesome? It’s definitely a cutesy little novelty print, but it’s not quite so in-your-face as some of the novelty prints you find on quilting cottons. It’s a little more subtle (well, as subtle as you can get with cartoon-y pineapples on a watercolor turquoise blue background), and it’s just pretty. I love it so much!

The fabric is called “Tropical Summertime Watercolor Pineapple,” and it from Zazzle. Did you know that Zazzle prints custom, on-demand fabric? Neither did I! This is a new venture that they’ve recently rolled out, and they offered me a few yards to try out and see if I liked it. Um, you guys. IT IS AMAZING. Granted, most of the fabrics offered are Home Decor weight, but they do have a classic combed cotton (similar to quilting cotton) and a Pima cotton, which are both suitable for apparel. I decided to go with the Pima cotton, and I chose an existing design. You can absolutely design your own print – I just didn’t want to go that route personally because I don’t really have a good eye for things like fabric design! I’d rather let someone else handle that part and let me make the dress 😉

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

Pima cotton is very easy to work with – it’s similar to quilting cotton, just lighter (but not quite as light as, say, voile). It doesn’t fray much and it cuts and sews like a dream. It doesn’t press quite as well as some other cottons – I just used my clapper to hold the seams down while they cooled, and that worked fine (your hand also works in place of a clapper, but don’t burn yourself! Ask me how I know. Also, ask me why I ended up getting a clapper, haha). The only minor downside is that, since the fabric is printed, the design only shows on one side – so the wrong side is white. This isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker, but it’s certainly something to be aware of when choosing a pattern. You don’t want to use one that will show the wrong side of the fabric, unless that’s part of your ~design inspiration.

I pre-washed my fabric before sewing it, and I definitely got a little bit of color fading. Not as much as you’d think – the colors of the fabric upon arrival weren’t quite as neon as they are in that product photo! – but they are a little muted. I actually like them better this way, so I’m ok with that! I washed the fabric on cold and dried it on low, same as I pre-treat all of my fabric. Going forward, I plan on washing this as infrequently as I can get away with (I mean, short of stinking up a 5 foot radius around me or anything like that) and when I do wash it, I will turn it inside-out and hang it to dry on the line. I imagine if this was hand-washed and hung to dry, it would probably retain it’s colors a bit better, but I’m a woman who ain’t got time to hand-wash her clothes (and, tbh, I only line-dry because then it means I don’t have to iron hahahahahaha), so I can live with a little fading.

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

Now for the pattern! Since the fabric has a good amount of body, I wanted to use that to it’s advantage and make something with a bit of sleek structure. I used Mccall 6887, which has front princess seams, a scoop neck, a flared skirt – and this awesome back detail:

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

WHICH IS BASICALLY MY FAVORITE THING EVER AT THE MOMENT.

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

For sizing, I cut the bodice in a size 6 with an A/B cup (I don’t 100% understand these cup sizes because I definitely don’t wear anything close to an A/B cup in real life, but whatever. The sewing pattern fits and that’s all that matters, I guess.) and graded out the waist and hips to the size 8. I chose these sizes based off the finished measurements, and I’m really happy with how the dress ended up fitting (my measurements put me in a “suggested” size 10, which as you could see here would have ended up way too big. Use the finished measurements, y’all! Trust me!). It’s actually pretty perfect straight out of the envelope – I didn’t have to do anything! Even the straps are a good length, which is really surprising to me as I usually have to shorten them. I cut about 3″ off the skirt length because it was otherwise unflatteringly long, but that’s typical for me.

In the future, I am going to re-draw the curve at the bottom of the back cut out, because it’s not quite in the right place. My bra tends to poke out just slightly from the bottom 😦 It’s not the worst deal – honestly, I’ll probably just make a cute bra to wear with this dress bc that’s how I roll – but it’s annoying nonetheless. I tucked it out of the way for these photos, which is why you don’t see it, but I’m pretty sure it’s just gonna hang low and be free when I’m actually wearing it.

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

I love the style of this dress, but I don’t completely agree with the construction methods presented in the pattern – some of them seemed needlessly complicated. The dress is designed to be worn with a lining, which finishes the neckline, arm holes and back all in one swoop. Awesome, I guess, but I definitely want to be wearing as few layers as possible during the summer! Instead of lining this dress, I finished all the openings with self bias facing. It was a slight puzzle to figure out the bottom of the back opening and dealing with that zipper, but it turned out pretty nice!

I also did not actually sew button holes to the back – I just lapped those two pieces over each other and sewed them down. The buttons are there strictly for decoration. I had every intention of adding the buttons- there is interfacing there and everything – but I realized that the buttons would gape open and look stupid, and also, they’re hard to close by myself because they’re in that weird spot in the middle of my back that I can hardly wash, let alone button. So this dress just slips right over my head. It’s a little bit of a wiggle, but it’s not too bad.

Oh, and I added pockets! The pattern doesn’t come with them, so I stole a pocket piece from another dress pattern in my stash.

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

There’s an invisible zipper at the center back of the skirt, which helps with getting everything on. I actually had this zipper in my stash – it’s one of those dumb metal invisible zippers (seems like a good idea, until you try sewing one and realize that it’s basically impossible for it to be concealed, which is the WHOLE FUCKING POINT of a concealed zipper. And now we all know why these zippers don’t exist anymore), which I hate, but it was the perfect color, so I took one for the team and made it happen. Also, check out my matching serger thread – also from the stash! I love it when that happens 😀

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

Here is the bias binding. There are two lines of stitching because I understitched the facing instead of pressing it with the first pass (here is my method for adding bias facing, if you missed that post!). Also, I cut a metric shit-ton of the bias tape and only used a fraction of it, so expect more pineapple bias facing in future blog posts.

I don’t really have anything else to say about this pattern, so have another photo of the back:

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

OH YEA.I definitely love this dress and I definitely plan on making more – I don’t even care if the open back is super one of a kind and that it’ll be obvious that I have several of the same dress. Whatever!

Ok everyone! So, as I mentioned in the title of this post – it’s time for another giveaway! Yay! Zazzle has generously offered to give one lucky reader a $75 gift certificate to spend on the ~custom fabric of your dreams~. You can design your own, or choose from the thousands of designs that they have available, and $75 is enough to get at least 2 yards out of most of the available designs. Below are some of my favorites (I seriously spent about 2 weeks agonizing before I finally settled on the watercolor pineapples), you can also see my entire wishlist here.

Citrus Lemon fabric

Citrus Lemon fabric

And, my personal favorite: this is what I found when I searched for “Butthurt” (look – I was waiting on car repairs and I was bored, and the Zazzle app is really entertaining, ok?):

All right! To enter this giveaway, just leave a comment on this post (PLEASE include an email address where I can reach you – you don’t have to enter it in the comment box, but it needs to be at least viewable to me from an admin end or I can’t count your entry 😦 ) and let me know what fabric you would choose if you won. If you want to tell me what you’d make with your amazing fabric, do that too! You know I like to be nosy 🙂 This contest is open WORLDWIDE, but you must be 18 or older to enter. Winners will receive the equivalent of $75 USD and are bound by the T&C of the Zazzle gift certificate. Entries will close one week from today, MONDAY, APRIL 27, 2015 at 6:30 AM and the winner will be drawn at random.

McCall 6887 - Pineapple dress!

Good luck, everyone!

** Disclosure: Zazzle provided me with this fabric free of charge, in exchange for a review. All opinions expressed in this blog post are my own, though! Also, I am an affiliate with Zazzle, so any purchases you make at Zazzle by clicking the links in this post will net me a small percentage of the sale. Which I will likely use to buy more custom-printed fabric from Zazzle. The end! 🙂

They really have plenty of fun and beautiful designs! I’d go for the “Sagamore”-Pattern and make a shirt. Nothing world-changing but I ride my bike everyday for work and I think it would make a great transitional piece for cool mornings, worn over a t-shirt. All about rather minimal design and comfort over here.

I NEED a galaxy printed dress in my life! Seriusly, it’s time! And they have a lot of awsom galaxy prints. Whoop Whoop! 😀

I don’t know what fabric I would get. I just have fabric greed for more.

Great dress Lauren! The fabric is really awesome! Since I saw it on Flickr I have been looking for something similar, but I haven’t found anything yet, so yaaaay giveaway! 🙂 I would really like that parrot fabric and I’d probably make a dress out of it, because who am I kidding, I am making dresses out of all of my fabrics 😉
I like the back of the dress, I am really into cut outs right now and the pattern really interests me now 😉
Thank you for sharing your awesomeness 🙂

Lauren, that dress is amazing! The fit is spot on and I love the pineapples. I’m with you on not designing my own fabric – I had some to order from my BHL kickstarter reward but in the end I just chose one of their existing ones, I didn’t know what I wanted! Yes to giveaway please…I really like the dinosaurs…or the turquoise cats and mice…or the lemons…don’t make me choose!

  7. Mariah April 20, 2015 at 9:02 am #

I think I’d have to go with the hipster cat or floral pattern with cartoon cats. I would totally make a shirt dress or some other 40s day dress out of it.

  8. KDMay April 20, 2015 at 9:04 am #

I think either the grayscale cat print or the aztec palm print that you have on your wish list. I need more big printsin my life.

  9. Annie April 20, 2015 at 9:05 am #

I am so happy I found your blog! This is awesome!

  10. Shayna April 20, 2015 at 9:08 am #

I love the cacti and the watercolor plaid! I’d use it to make the long version of the new Southport dress from True Bias.

  11. Alicia April 20, 2015 at 9:08 am #

Supercute dress/fabric combo! Good to know the M6887 was a hit. I seem to have more misses with mcalls and have ignored them for awhile. So that scarlet macaw parrot business would be perfect with a red background for the Magnum P.I. shirt Ive been wanting to make (not joking). If I had a one off of fabric made it would def be of this half yard of 60’s japanese fabric I have. Its a deep blue background with multi colored bi plane silouettes floating at a bias angle. Id really want multiple color ways. That would be rad. Bi planes are my favorite aircraft. Is it weird to have a favorite aircraft? Sidenote: I totally want to explore the woods behind yo house! I miss living near trees:( my butthurts.

  12. qplourde April 20, 2015 at 9:09 am #

I think I have that pattern. Anyways, I love the dress – especially the back. I feel you about the measurements – I have to be careful going with my lower body measurements sometimes because I have been burned in the past making things waaay too big. I’ve learned, dresses with a flared out skirt – better to go on the smaller side, even with my big hips/butt. I don’t know why but I really love that Fast Food fabric – I think it would be fun to make a cute top with (even though it probably makes more sense as an apron). I also love the cactus one too – just came back from the southwest so that would be a fun one to work with. I think you can see my email from my account – but let me know if not.

  13. Kayse April 20, 2015 at 9:09 am #

Sooooo much adorable fabrics… My fave is the Woodland Fairytale Creatures Baby Neutral Nursery Fabric….. I think it’d be an adorable dress!! Love your pineapple dress! So beautiful!

Hi! I love the fabric with bicycles! I’d love a picnic blanket! Thank you!

I am a huge fan of paisley and Zazzle has a ton of paisley patterns to choose from. And since I am in a summer sun dress kind of mood, that’s probably what I’d make. Here are a couple of my favorite fabric choices:

Great dress and you got a perfect fit! I would love to make the same in the parrot print for my Christmas in Maui vacation.

  17. Angela April 20, 2015 at 9:12 am #

Living in the desert – that cactus print is just too fun! That might need to find its way to my home… but I’ll be sure to use your link!

  18. Accidental Seamstress April 20, 2015 at 9:17 am #

I love everything about this dress! It looks great! I’m just a “fake” seamstress and I fail to an epic degree when trying to use a pattern. I’m jealous of you folks that can sew for real 🙂 I love the fabric, the back, the buttons (never would’ve guessed they were just embellishment). Great, great job. I’d make a million of this dress if I could sew this well too. Also, I love a funky print of any kind. That “kitty” fabric rocks my world. I’ll have to mosey over to zazzle and check out their stuff.

  19. sarah April 20, 2015 at 9:18 am #

wow that dress is very cute and i love the design detail in the back. i can understand why it took you a while to decide on the fabric choices as there are so many great prints. my favourite ones just on the first page would be vintage bathing suits, vincent van gogh starry night and ernest haeckels leptomedusae fabrics. there is just so much to choose from.

  20. Jada Nicks Edwards April 20, 2015 at 9:19 am #

I would definitely order the dinosaur fabric to make a skirt and such for my dinosaur crazy 10 year old daughter….and maybe use the remaining for ME! 🙂 jadwae99@gmail.com

  22. Eryn @ StyleSewMe.com April 20, 2015 at 9:20 am #

What a perfect fit and that fabric is so cute! Don’t you just love when a pattern fits out of the envelope (that crap never happens with me, so enjoy!) hehehe. I am a new follower, but I just love reading your posts. They flow so naturally!

  23. Evie April 20, 2015 at 9:21 am #

This is super cute! And I can’t really decide between the watercolor plaid and the parrots. I’m kinda in love with them both; and since I really hate wearing anything but dresses in the summer, it would definitely be destined for a sundress of some sort.

  24. Tina C. April 20, 2015 at 9:25 am #

Fantastic dress! Now I have a new way to waste time–the zazzle fabric site. So many awesome prints, though!

  25. Teresa April 20, 2015 at 9:28 am #

To be honest, I would totally make a skirt out of the butthurt fabric-I not only have pet rabbits but I’m deaf so it would be amazingly perfect. If I were a classier broad, I’d probably go with the design of birch trees and birds

  26. Andie L. April 20, 2015 at 9:29 am #

Wow. I am in looooove with that dress. I love the fabric and the back details. It’s truly perfect! 🙂

I love that cacti pattern! I’d make another M6696 with the fabric, because I am obsessed with that pattern. 😉

  27. Cornelia April 20, 2015 at 9:29 am #

I loooove that lemon fabric! Would love to make a summer jacket out of it!

  28. paisleyapron April 20, 2015 at 9:31 am #

Fantastic fit on the pineapple dress! Do you use a dress form?

I am an apron wearer because I am sloppy and in the kitchen a lot. My favorite reversible paisley apron died this week, and I need to make a new one soon. I found some in grey and teal, but may find a way to have the monogrammed paisley made up in cotton. Too fun!

    • LLADYBIRD April 20, 2015 at 9:43 am #

I use a dressform, but not for fitting. Even if the measurements are a 100% match, it’s still not a good substitute for an actual body since there isn’t flesh to squish down 🙂 I do all my fitting on my own body 🙂

  29. Caitlyn M. April 20, 2015 at 9:33 am #

The fit on your dress is superb. The princess seams especially are perfection. Consider me thoroughly be’zazzled.

If I were to win, I’d also want to make a sleeveless princess-seamed dress, although I’d probably forego the (awesome) open back detail in favor of something more work-appropriate. I’d definitely pick up the Navy Turquoise and Green Ikat Paisley Fabric, because the name alone contains basically all of my favorite things. The only trick will be finding the perfect shoes to go with it…

  30. Tyraenna April 20, 2015 at 9:35 am #

This is so awesome, I love the back! How do you like Zazzle’s fabric printing options as compared to Spoonflower’s?

    Email: allen.jennifer.m@gmail.com

    • LLADYBIRD April 20, 2015 at 9:44 am #

I have never printed fabric at Spoonflower (I have *used* Spoonflower custom printed fabric, but it was printed and shipped to me by the shop owner), so I can’t really say!

  31. shesewsswell April 20, 2015 at 9:36 am #

Probably I’d be needing some of that lemon fabric…. I would make a Tres Chic scrub top to wear to work and make all my patients smile…. OR I have an idea in my head for some retro birds…. PS Nice dress. Now that I am no longer an empty nester, I can sew for my youngest and have an actual model to fit. Some of the clothes you make would look great on her. Thanks again!

  32. julianne April 20, 2015 at 9:38 am #

I checked out the fabrics and it was love at first sight (site?) when I saw Ocean Waves Fabric! I would love to make the Named Asaka Kimono with it!

Although, on the other hand, your pineapple fabric really inspired me too so.. decisions, decisions haha.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  33. Carrie April 20, 2015 at 9:38 am #

Oooo id use this fabric: http://www.zazzle.com/floral_burst_fabric-256726811762304525 or maybe design my own. I love Queen Anne’s lace flowers and can never find them on fabric! Thanks for the giveaway!

I’ve been excited to make curtains to update our dreary window blinds. I love the Quatrefoil Grey Fabric from zazzle!

Btw i love that dress on you Lladybird – it fits you like a glove and the princess seams are our of this world!

  35. annekecaramin April 20, 2015 at 9:44 am #

Wow, this is great! I’d totally go for some kind of space print, but choosing one would be hard…

  36. Mary Beth April 20, 2015 at 9:49 am #

I love the dress! It looks great on you. As for the giveaway, I love the little kitties for my niece (5 years old) Good Luck to Everyone!!

  37. mauude April 20, 2015 at 9:49 am #

It’s totally unfair that this website is selling so many cute fabrics! So choosing one would be so hard. I guess I would let a pattern inspire me for the choice of it… Even though I really like these art-gallery style fabrics (they remind me of that time I was studying art history). Turning them into cropped tops or dresses could be quite original!
And I really like the pattern of your dress! 🙂

  38. Cindy April 20, 2015 at 9:51 am #

I’d definitely get the pineapple print because I’ve never met a fruit print fabric that I didn’t like!

  39. d April 20, 2015 at 9:53 am #

Oooh, pretty fabric! I’ve been searching for a good galaxy fabric everywhere to make a dress, so I’d love this one: http://www.zazzle.com/the_tarantula_nebula_fabric-256999288842636419

OMG!!! I love the butt hurts print. I actually was thinking about that cartoon the other day…I need that fabric!!!

  41. Mary Danielson Perry April 20, 2015 at 9:55 am #

That back cut-out is too fabulous, Lauren! I absolutely love this pattern on you. So, so cute! Also, I had no idea that Zazzle did fabric, but I definitely need one of their daffodil fabrics in my life now. They’re lovely!

  42. Kimmy Rocket April 20, 2015 at 9:55 am #

I am soooo inspired right now…and stuck in my office at work. Boooo. But come the weekend, let the summer dress pattern meet the eye-watering tropical fabric design. For me, it would be the Papercut Patterns Saiph dress (sitting in the stash, begging to be made) and the Tropical Pink Flamingo themed fabric from Zazzle.

  43. smonakey April 20, 2015 at 9:59 am #

Yikes! Choice overload! There’s an adorable bike print on their front page that I’d have to opt for now. I looked for knit-themed fabric, but nothing really grabbed me, so the bike it is for now.

    • smonakey April 20, 2015 at 10:01 am #

I’d use it for a skirt, I think. Or a Hawthorne dress from Colette.

  44. alexandracuckoo April 20, 2015 at 9:59 am #

I’d have to go for the “howling at the moon” print, or “cute patterned wolf” since I’ve been wanting a wolf print for ages – as a bit of a nod to all those wolf fleeces out there in the wild! I like the idea of all these prints, it’s brilliant! But at £22 a yard, I think you’d have to be sure that you’d like whatever you bought!

  45. PinhouseP April 20, 2015 at 9:59 am #

I love the dress! Pineapples and all. The only thing I struggle with is the name, it’s too much like Va-jazzle…….. There, I said it. I’d propably go with the parrot print, but there are many nice ones to choose from, and you know hard hard it is to choose!

  46. Jasmine April 20, 2015 at 10:02 am #

Thanks for the intro to zazzle! In always on the hunt for crazy novelty fabrics and am in LOVE with the cactus one!

  47. Jin April 20, 2015 at 10:03 am #

Loving the Parrot Fabric and Citrus Fabric. Excellent job on the dress…funny thing I just pulled out that pattern on the weekend but couldn’t decide on the fabric!
I noticed you have your threads on the wall, do they not get dusty? I’ve thought about doing that but put everything in drawers or boxes because I hate dusting.

    • LLADYBIRD April 20, 2015 at 10:07 am #

I haven’t noticed a problem with dust, although dust also doesn’t bother me. I don’t like to store my supplies in boxes because I tend to forget about them if I don’t see them! Plus, thread is pretty – it’s very useful decor 🙂 haha!

  48. Trisha April 20, 2015 at 10:06 am #

Love it! I too am in love with open-back dresses. I made 3 (eep!) last summer! 🙂

The cactus fabric is seriously the best. I live in Arizona, and I would love to rock a Moss Mini Skirt made from that cactus fabric!

  49. craftsanctuary April 20, 2015 at 10:08 am #

UM WHAT? Those bunnies are hilarious. I was thinking of commenting about this the other day, but I figured we’d get photos eventually 🙂 Love it! I’m obsessed with this pattern, too, I don’t know how I missed it! Definitely on my to-sew list now.

I totally know what I want! Red cherries on a black background. I’ve been wanting this since I saw it in a market in Eindhoven and I did not buy it!!

cute dress! I have no idea what I would choose if I won but it would be fun to decide 🙂 thanks for the chance!

  56. Courtney April 20, 2015 at 10:27 am #

Oh my goodness, so many good fabrics! I love me a bit of novelty, I’d definitely be going for something in your face like this awesome breakfast print
    http://www.zazzle.co.uk/breakfast_fun_fabric-256227458872782984

    Love your pineapple dress 🙂

  57. Feminizzle April 20, 2015 at 10:29 am #

I love these fabric design sites! There are so many talented fabric designers out there… I think I would have to go with the cactus print you linked- I have this obsession with cactus lately and want them on everything.

  58. vinthillvintage April 20, 2015 at 10:29 am #

I would make a vintage dress pattern from my stash with one of those awesome vintage prints like this floral drawing One: http://www.zazzle.com/white_and_gray_vintage_flowers_drawing_fabric-256953709679819143
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  59. Shirley April 20, 2015 at 10:39 am #

Love the citrus lemon! Definitely would make a dress out of it. Your dress is really cute…so summery!

  60. Beth April 20, 2015 at 10:39 am #

i would definitely pick the nautical whales fabric which is the cutest thing, like, ever, and make a dress 🙂 thanks for the giveaway!

  61. Leticia April 20, 2015 at 10:40 am #

I would make a shift dress with this groovy retro polka dot fabric: http://www.zazzle.com/retro_pink_polka_dots_hipster_turquoise_pattern_fabric-256947167466484559

    You’re right–very addictive!

  62. Kay April 20, 2015 at 10:43 am #

I like the Ying Yang fabric, and would probably make a dress or skirt from it.

  63. Marike Smit April 20, 2015 at 10:46 am #

    LOVE your dress!
Oh my goodness, I want all those prints! I think if I won it would be a tie between the “Hipster cats” and the “Floral print with cartoon cats”… or maybe spend some money on top of the gift certificate and get both? (love the cactus print as well.) I made my first self-drafted half circle skirt last week, so I am so into these skirts with cute prints right now!
Just in case you can’t see my email, its redlocks81@gmail.com. 😉

  64. SeamstressErin April 20, 2015 at 10:46 am #

So fun! Didn’t realize that zazzle is printing on demand fabric these days – I’m kinda curious how they compare to spoonflower. Since I’ve totally been crushing on Megan’s clothes in Mad Men, I think I’d have to pick a ridiculous 70’s floral print since I love gigantic tacky flowery goodness!

  65. ShowandTellMeg April 20, 2015 at 10:52 am #

This is by far the hardest decision I’ve had to make today, lol. I think I’d go with the Ernst Haeckel Octopus Fabric in the darker blue color. Very cool!

  66. Onychophora April 20, 2015 at 10:57 am #

    Your dress looks great!
And the giveaway sounds great! I found some great fabrics (one with cute hummingbirds or one with chandeliers). Such a huge selection!

  67. alliedpassagetranslations April 20, 2015 at 11:05 am #

Oh wow! I would love to design my own fabric so I can start crossing some things off of my wish list – I think I’d go with a watercolor and/or floral print, or something so I could recreate this: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/clothes-sweaters/4113089865210.jsp?cm_sp=Grid-_-4113089865210-_-Regular_25#/

  68. Olivia April 20, 2015 at 11:10 am #

This is loads of fun! I love your pineapples. I think novelty prints get a rough deal. Why can’t I wear unicorn print dresses to work? Recently I’ve been on the look out for fabric with blueprints or engineering designs. With this I could create my own!

  69. uglybea April 20, 2015 at 11:10 am #

That is a fantastic dress! I love the open back…may have to add this to the gigantic list. Ooooh, and the parrot fabric, yum! j9s@flash.net

  70. Sara April 20, 2015 at 11:14 am #

I love the dress! And omg, so many great fabric choices on Zazzle. It was hard to decide on just one, but I think I’d have to go with Tropical Palm Leaves.

  71. Rachel April 20, 2015 at 11:17 am #

ooo love the print and pattern! I’d love to win the competition, think I’ll definitely be buying some if I don’t win! 🙂

  72. Angelica April 20, 2015 at 11:20 am #

That dress is so cute!! The fabric really compliments the pattern.

  73. Mandykatt April 20, 2015 at 11:28 am #

Yay! I love the design your own fabric websites. Like you, I am not much of a print designer, but being able to choose someone else’s awesome work and have that made up is super amazing.
Nice pineapple dress! If you wear pineapple body spray you can try to trick your friends into believing it’s scratch ‘n sniff. 😀

  74. Kellie April 20, 2015 at 11:36 am #

So cute! I’m glad you are settling in after the big move and had some decent weather for photo taking. I’m looking forward to seeing more makes 🙂

  75. Meg April 20, 2015 at 11:36 am #

Thank you for hosting the giveaway. My choice would probably be one of the Ernst Haeckel deep-sea critter patterns, such as “Ernst Haeckel’s Oceanic Wonders Fabric.” If there’s a bit of ink fading, this design can probably take it and still look good.

    • Meg April 20, 2015 at 11:37 am #

      meghamel /// gmail.com

  76. Aimee O April 20, 2015 at 11:37 am #

I really like the vintage mountain gem hummingbird fabric. I think I would probably make a by hand London holly jumpsuit – shorts version!

  77. Gertrude Welsh April 20, 2015 at 11:38 am #

I would love the fast food fabric to make my granddaughters matching dresses.

  78. Aleksandra @ Liveaboard Takes the Suburbs April 20, 2015 at 11:44 am #

Totally buying that pattern next sale. I love the cutout in the back — so summery!

I would definitely choose the pink lemonade fabric. They have a lot of good food fabrics!

  79. Laura April 20, 2015 at 11:47 am #

This dress turned out awesome! All the giveaway fabrics are so fun butttttt, I think I like the butts most (My Butt Hurts! – What? Bunny Fabric).

  80. Tanya Donahue April 20, 2015 at 11:52 am #

Hmmm… They are all so cute!!! Love the citrus lemon fabric!! So fresh and summery. I’d pair it with black and yellow to make a fun looking beach bag or shopping bag.

  81. Elizabeth Amy Hajek April 20, 2015 at 12:05 pm #

    Weeeeee fabric!

  82. Kathy April 20, 2015 at 12:07 pm #

    I love the lemon pattern!

  83. CarmencitaB April 20, 2015 at 12:12 pm #

    Ooh! Count me in !
    Thanks!

  84. V Reed April 20, 2015 at 12:31 pm #

I could easily lose myself looking at prints and patterns on that site! So many wonderful things. I would choose something with dots. I am in love with Large Peacock Blue/Dark Teal and White Polka Dots Fabric and the fun, funky Colored Circle & Polka Dots.

  85. Cari April 20, 2015 at 12:31 pm #

Love these fabrics. I think I’d pick Cat Tribal Domestic Feline Stretch Fabric.

    • Cari April 20, 2015 at 12:32 pm #

      And make a dress

  86. Adriene April 20, 2015 at 12:50 pm #

    I love this dress. #pineapplesforthewin

I would choose the Makana Palms Hawaiian Tropical Print Fabric.

  87. Kelsey R. April 20, 2015 at 12:50 pm #

I’d do the cool corroded cuttlefish or orange chambered nautilus fabric for some skirts.

  88. Charlotte April 20, 2015 at 1:03 pm #

Haha I’m so impressed that a search for ‘butthurt’ returned a result:) I’d have to go with that gorgeous watercolour plaid – nice spot – or have a go at designing. Never can resist a challenge.

  89. Katie April 20, 2015 at 1:04 pm #

Love that parrot fabric! I think it would make a fun Granville.

  90. Thimberlina April 20, 2015 at 1:05 pm #

    Amazing dress! amazing give away!
If just spent so long browsing my iPads nearly flat!
I love this Wellington boot fabric
    http://www.zazzle.com/rain_boots_colorful_fabric-256687320215068958
And would make a rain coat! 💦💦💦💦💦

  91. aslipperysloper April 20, 2015 at 1:11 pm #

I’d go with the lemon fabric and make a pleated midi skirt with a 50s vibe.

  92. Michelle Rivera (@agirlastitch) April 20, 2015 at 1:21 pm #

    1. You’ve got the best back ever.
    2. I really like your button choice!
    3. I need to get me some kitty fabric (meow)

  93. ltinuviel April 20, 2015 at 1:22 pm #

Wonderful dress – the princess seams are perfect.
All the fabrics are so lovely, but I like the “butthurt” fabric most 😀

  94. Alicia April 20, 2015 at 1:24 pm #

I would love to get my hands on some the “vintage bird print” by vintage angel.. Maybe in linen for a skirt??

  95. Shelby April 20, 2015 at 1:55 pm #

I love the Watercolour Cactus Fabric! ❤

  96. Jessica April 20, 2015 at 2:00 pm #

Haha, that bunny fabric is pretty damn awesome …

  97. eliseyloo April 20, 2015 at 2:01 pm #

I love this pattern! I’ll definitely be wanting to sew one like this for myself soon :]

  98. teri dodds April 20, 2015 at 2:05 pm #

I’m pretty sure I would chose pineapples! They are so much fun!

  99. Agata Gilbert April 20, 2015 at 2:18 pm #

Long time Canadian lurker here! Love your stuff and especially love this dress!
If I won the giveaway i would definately make a summer dress too! I love the little lemon print you posted.

  100. Charlotte April 20, 2015 at 2:22 pm #

I’m all with you when it comes to letting other people design fabric, especially when there’s so many lovely ones to choose from! The Nautical Watercolour Plaid pattern is my favourite, but I love how your pineapple pattern looks on your dress!

  101. Deborah Manser April 20, 2015 at 2:34 pm #

Nice dress. I like the parrots print you posted, although if I won I’d search for a flamingo print and make my daughter a cute dress with it.

  102. sewcookgardenrepeat April 20, 2015 at 2:46 pm #

I did actually have this huge long response but wordpress passwords are apparently a bitch to remember. 😦 So I would get the bunny butt hurts or this: http://www.zazzle.com/abstract_blue_ice_crsytal_pattern_fabric-256685881610346734

Great dress though! Love me a novelty print! 🙂

  103. Megan Carter April 20, 2015 at 2:51 pm #

Love your cute pineapple dress, so sweet! I would love that citrus lemon fabric for a cute summer top! The parrot fabric is adorable too!

  104. Valentina April 20, 2015 at 3:32 pm #

Hello! i love your fabric and the pattern you used for the dress! I would take for my self Retro autumn leaf fabric to make a wide blouse or a dress.

  105. Liliana April 20, 2015 at 3:33 pm #

So, so many designs to choose from… I would pick a floral fabric, maybe ‘Coastline Floral’, ‘Tropical Hibiscus Floral Pattern’ or the ‘Vintage Mountain Gem Hummingbird’?

  106. Ali Benko April 20, 2015 at 3:36 pm #

I love the cutout in the back of your dress! Doubles up the cutest when paired with pinapples. Oh jeez and what would I get from Zazzle? Well I thought I had decided on the Ocean Waves fabric, but I saw this Cute Sushi Fabric as I was clicking away and that one totally wins in my books! I’d make a dress to wear on sushi dates 🙂

  107. Hazel April 20, 2015 at 3:43 pm #

I love the cutout detail on the back of this dress. If I won I would pick the bloody awesome Neon 80’s fabric and run me up a little By Hand London Elisalex, I think it would handle the bold print pretty well and I would look awesome 🙂

  108. Melanie Hauer April 20, 2015 at 3:46 pm #

Great job on the dress; I love the pineapples! I would definitely go for the art deco flower print, but damn, it’s hard to narrow it down. I love the cactus print and the goat print, too! I would probably hold onto the fabric for a long, long time before finally deciding to attempt a dress or skirt of some sort.

  109. Lisa April 20, 2015 at 3:58 pm #

I would get that lemon fabric!

  110. Emily Bowie April 20, 2015 at 4:02 pm #

I’ve been behind in the Emery Dress game for a while, mainly because I haven’t found the dream fabric for it yet. So CROSSING FINGERS on this one because I am in love with the gold ginko leaf fabric and the grey and white feather fabric. And a boatload more. AH.

  111. rycrafty April 20, 2015 at 4:05 pm #

    Definitely those cacti!

  112. Rita April 20, 2015 at 4:13 pm #

Difficult choices! I think I’d choose a nautical fabric (http://www.zazzle.com/pink_nautical_anchor_fabric-256833168623665643) and make an Emery Dress out of if. Or a Lilou from Tilly’s book.
Your pineapple dress is SO FREAKIN’ CUTE!!

  113. laurajmcl April 20, 2015 at 4:35 pm #

Great dress! I love the pineapples. I would get the birds and trees fabric but would have to think really hard about what to do with it.

  114. Clare April 20, 2015 at 4:42 pm #

Great dress, great pattern! Wouldn’t the ‘butt hurt’ fabric make great pjs?! Especially if they print on brushed cotton. Also really like the parrots.
I must say the back drop for your photos looks beautiful.

  115. kieraschwegler April 20, 2015 at 4:42 pm #

Your pineapple fabric just got me so excited! Can’t wait to make something fun like this for spring. Maybe a flamingo print!

    kmschwegler@gmail.com

  116. Lauren April 20, 2015 at 4:42 pm #

I really like the art deco fan pattern fabric though I have no idea what I’d make with it. I love the lemon fabric form your wish list too!

  117. tomatoworm April 20, 2015 at 4:47 pm #

Cactus or Fast Food fabrics are so cute! Like your pineapple fabric, they’re cartoon-y and fun.

  118. Annika April 20, 2015 at 4:48 pm #

I thought it would be so hard to decide, but that Citrus Lemon print has my heart.

  119. Christina April 20, 2015 at 4:52 pm #

Obviously I would totally choose the “my butt hurts – what?” bunny fabric, it’s just too hilarious;-) And I think I would make a circle skirt or something sophisticated with the fabric.

  120. Beth April 20, 2015 at 4:58 pm #

Wow — for all the world (and a fudge sicle) anyone would think you’re wearing the most perfectly cared for truly vintage summer dress. Cute and cute!!

  121. sylviesuzanne April 20, 2015 at 5:11 pm #

I love the parrot fabric, and would absolutely make a fantabulous dress from it!

  122. yacurama April 20, 2015 at 5:24 pm #

That dress us sooo cute on you! I also like this pale aqua color of the fabric. The forrest in the background looks mystic but also very calm. What a nice place to live and take beautiful pictures for us 😀

  123. ellegeemakes April 20, 2015 at 5:24 pm #

Super cute dress! An inspiring use of pineapples. Who knew? I too, love a good fruit, so I’d likely pick the fabulous Citrous lemon fabric that I would make into a fabulous summery dress! Fingers crossed…..

  124. Logan Mack April 20, 2015 at 5:45 pm #

I really like the Kawaii Solar System Fabric. It would make an awesome Oliver +S Puppet show Dress for my 1 year old. Thanks for hosting.

  125. Kyema April 20, 2015 at 5:58 pm #

Wow, this is even more awesome than i expected! I love the back!

I would definitelly get this killer elephant fabric. http://www.zazzle.com/coral_and_peach_mehndi_elephant_fabric-256838616362443838 So beautiful! And I’d probably brave 1 more purse for my elephant loving sister. Swoon India to be specific!

  126. Kieran April 20, 2015 at 6:02 pm #

Super cool dress! I don’t know if I would dare to wear such a thing, and it coming up to winter here 😦 so I would probably make a shirt. Picking a fabric would be tricky but I LOVE this one: http://www.zazzle.com/playful_unicorn_foals_fabric_brushed_cotton-256350569308687446 so maybe that would be the winner…

  127. Katerina April 20, 2015 at 6:13 pm #

So many options!!! I think I would use this http://www.zazzle.com/chartreuse_green_gray_bold_large_dahlias_design_fabric-256865771058739646 for a cute summer dress!

  128. Linda Nelson April 20, 2015 at 6:34 pm #

I adore your dress! I would make a dress with Beagle Bay Sandy Beige Fabric! Thanks for the giveaway.

    lenelson(at)mail(dot)com

  129. Ines April 20, 2015 at 6:40 pm #

I just want’ to say I love that dress, it has summer and pineapple popsicle written all over it, don’t forget the sunscreen! :0)
    Pink lemonade?

  130. Kate Carvalho April 20, 2015 at 6:54 pm #

Yummy! I would go for the parrot or the cactus fabric and make a two piece set: Shorts and crop top.

  131. Sammy April 20, 2015 at 7:27 pm #

I’d get the Kawaii Cats print and probably make a cute circle skirt out of it. In love. http://www.zazzle.com/kawaii_cats_patterned_fabric-256421631380170538

  132. Antoinette April 20, 2015 at 7:45 pm #

  133. Daniela S. April 20, 2015 at 8:01 pm #

  137. Jude Webber April 20, 2015 at 8:37 pm #

I live in Mexico so I would make a swishy skirted dress in that fabulous cactus print…. Never seen anything like that down here, and it would improve my work wardrobe no end!!! Love your blog – the woods look beautiful

  138. Lindsay April 20, 2015 at 8:52 pm #

    Vintage Dark Gray Bicycle Pattern!

So cute. I aspire to a bicycle with a basket on the front. I would make it into one of my TNT tops to cute up my everyday life!

  139. misskacysews April 20, 2015 at 8:58 pm #

Love that pattern and the pineapples are adorable!! Such a generous giveaway!! My favorites from the Zazzle site are any of the apple prints!!

  140. isasif April 20, 2015 at 9:07 pm #

So cute! I have always loved pineapples so I’m totally psyched that pineapples are ~having a moment~ and there’s lots of great pineapple prints available! I have the most awesome little print that I’d want to get printed from Zazzle, it’s a cartoon cat riding a bicycle and eating an ice cream cone which is basically 3 of my most favorite things. I actually saw it on a kid’s bowl at Target (so I can’t take credit for the design), but they never turned it into a t-shirt design or anything, so now I’m picturing lots of little cats all over a sweet dress with a full circle skirt 🙂

  141. youngseamstress April 20, 2015 at 9:12 pm #

Love the dress! I really like their Alice and Wonderland print – I would make a simple summer dress to showcase the print. Thanks for the giveaway! youngseamstress[at]gmail[dot]com

  142. lifeisjustduckie April 20, 2015 at 9:21 pm #

I love this fabric! I would definitely make a pair of Maritime Shorts in the pineapple print. The back detail on this dress is great!

  143. Wendy April 20, 2015 at 10:12 pm #

Love the dress and so inspired by your blog! The zazzle site is overwhelming but there was a floral fractal pattern that caught my eye. Thanks for doing a giveaway!

  144. Veronica Darling (@veronicadarling) April 20, 2015 at 10:12 pm #

This is like the BUMPER EDITION! Wow!

My friend has been drawing sushi, edamame and egg rolls and we’ve been talking about using her illustrations for dresses and I’d make an edamame fabric (green soy beans!)! Then, a fitted bodice frock for summer! Voila!

    veronicadarling AT gmail.com & http://www.veronicadarling.com

    xoxoxo

  145. Ellen April 20, 2015 at 10:41 pm #

Surprisingly, I found over 100 fabrics I would love, http://www.zazzle.com/pug+fabric?ps=120. All you need is pug! Great dress & love the pineapples 🙂

  146. Mandi April 20, 2015 at 11:04 pm #

I LOVE that cactus fabric! What to make with it?!? Probably a fun summer dress!
    Mandiprout80 at gmail dot com

  147. Ronja April 20, 2015 at 11:12 pm #

So… I’m not sure if I would use an awesome Doberman Fabric I found on Zazzel, or if I would make my own, or if I would indulge in that fantastic Lemon Print! ❤ (I think the lemons might win! Or maybe watermelon?!) I do know that I've been working on a version of the "Coffee Date Dress" that no longer looks anything like the original since I have changed it so much with each new version. I might indulge in a yard of cotton for a nice blouse as well. That would be in a hand designed tiny red spotted mushroom print though.

  148. Megan April 20, 2015 at 11:23 pm #

Loved the pineapple fabric, I’m seeing pineapples all the time at the moment. Also love the kitty and butt hurts fabric. Not sure what made me lave hardest, the fabric or the fact that you googled butt hurts.

  149. SeeKatSew April 20, 2015 at 11:29 pm #

Lucky you minimal adjustments! I had many with this pattern. This makes me want to make it again with the back detail. I think the lining with the full skirt makes no sense with such a summery dress. The pineapples are adorable.
    kath_rhodes@hotmail.com

  150. Carole W April 20, 2015 at 11:30 pm #

I spotted some Diamond Head aloha shirt fabric that I’d have to have – because we just went there! I’d make it into a cool skirt though – not a shirt.

  151. Jamie b April 20, 2015 at 11:31 pm #

    Super cute!
I would be tempted to design my own maybe a watercolor something or VanGogh-ish or maybe a plaid. And most definitely a dress; I love dresses! Thanks!

  152. Rebecca Ora April 20, 2015 at 11:39 pm #

I really like the vintage hummingbird fabric and I would make summer dress.

  153. Lana April 21, 2015 at 1:01 am #

I want the fast food print fabric! I have a bunch of washable markers and a lot of time as a student, so I’d just make a dress and colour myself in during lectures. So awesome.

  154. Laura April 21, 2015 at 1:20 am #

Oh gosh I’m not sure which one I’d choose! I’m inclined to make a dress, but maybe a blouse would be better? It’d so depend on the fabric!

  155. whitemousecreations April 21, 2015 at 1:33 am #

Cute dress and the back detail is pretty cool 🙂 Oh and I’d definitely be searching for some cat fabric designs. Love cats!!

  156. Rowena W April 21, 2015 at 2:29 am #

I love the cacti – one of my great life accomplishments has been crocheting a cactus, and I could have a dress to match! It would be awesome, and my friends would all despair of me.

  157. Stephanie Mertens April 21, 2015 at 2:29 am #

I love the dress! The back is indeed wonderful, very summer-like. I’m off looking at all the cool fabric designs now.

  158. Christine April 21, 2015 at 2:31 am #

I’d go for the “yellow aqua green Mod leaves” pattern for a summer dress.

  159. Nathalie April 21, 2015 at 2:34 am #

Beautiful dress, I love the pineapples. But if I would win I would chose the soft ecru and gold glitter city dots fabrics. Simple plus stylish!

  160. Siobhan April 21, 2015 at 3:06 am #

That Going bananas fabric in pink is pretty amazing.

  161. Joanne Taylor April 21, 2015 at 3:07 am #

Hi – I am a fan from afar and really enjoy reading your blog. I love your “out there” attitude and especially enjoy reading an honest review. Your latest Vogue review was so true.
Keep up the great work – you put a smile on my face.
So cool to be able to participate in this give-away 🙂

  162. fourcathousewife April 21, 2015 at 3:51 am #

30,000 items in printed fabric?! No wonder you had a hard time choosing! I think I’d manage though…
    tamara.l.spencer@hotmail.com

  163. Amanda Black April 21, 2015 at 4:34 am #

They are all stunning but I’m most drawn to the Parrot fabric and I would use it to make a play suit… amazing.

  164. Kat H April 21, 2015 at 4:45 am #

Waaah! Mini cartoon pineapples! Love it!! (And I love that pattern too, so cute! 🙂

I’d choose this one: http://www.zazzle.com/ocean_waves_fabric-256334161128996248 Because – waves!! Eep!!!

  165. Bianca April 21, 2015 at 6:01 am #

The dress looks great, regardless of the pineapples 😉 Not such a big fan myself of those, BUT the lemon fabric would be a great fit for a pair of trousers to go with my MJN kit for a convention in September.

  166. chuichoy April 21, 2015 at 6:25 am #

Love the pineapple print and the open back. I have the same pattern but was on the edge about using it until I saw your version. I’m glad it works without real button holes, that is an awkward place to have buttons.

I would choose the cactus print if I won although I have no idea what I would do with it. Otherwise, I would try to design my own for a dress. Thanks for the review on Zazzle!

  167. rachsews April 21, 2015 at 6:57 am #

I love the back detail on that dress (though I would not love it on me…) and can see why you were taken with the pineapples. I think I would go for the watercolour plaid, though, and probably make a shirtdress of some kind.
    rach.porter@hotmail.co.uk

  168. Becky April 21, 2015 at 6:57 am #

I would love to win this! Shopping these selections would be so fun!

  169. Frankie Carson April 21, 2015 at 7:21 am #

I’m all about the galaxy prints! That or puppies or bunnies, anything with puppies and bunnies, I love puppies and bunnies! And id probably make a dress!

http://www.zazzle.com/steampunk_wheels_gears_cogs_watch_face_pattern_fabric-256183436835376881 I love the steampunk designs, especially this one. It would be great for a vintage shirt dress.

  171. Megan April 21, 2015 at 8:00 am #

Loving your dress and the fabric! I’ve now spent far too long browsing Zazzle fabrics! I’m really drawn to the tropical/tiki retro fabrics and picking just one is a tricky job, but I can totally see a dress with a fitted bodice and full skirt (or a straight skirt with an asymmetric detail) made up in Happy Hour Retro Hawaiian Tropical Drinks Fabric. It’s great to have a giveaway which is open to sewers in all countries! Thank you! 😉

  172. Denise April 21, 2015 at 8:10 am #

Beautiful dress! Checked out the website (thanks a lot -lol, feeding my fabric addiction!). There’s a wonderful red floral that I think will make an awesome shirt dress. And it’s 54″ wide!

  173. Amy Mayen April 21, 2015 at 8:25 am #

I found a combed cotton print called something-feather…it’s a southwesty-ish print in dusty blue, gray, and yellow. I guess Id have to touch it and let it speak to me before I decided what to make. Yup that’s me, the fabric whisperer. MayenDesigns@gmail.com

  174. Mim April 21, 2015 at 8:35 am #

I love the citrus print – very 50s!

  175. H's Handcrafts April 21, 2015 at 9:25 am #

I really love that watercolour cactus print – so fun and bright but i think a pair of capri pants from this hummingbird fabric might just be my ideal make! http://www.zazzle.com/vintage_mountain_gem_hummingbird_fabric-256178812255845335

  176. Denise April 21, 2015 at 9:42 am #

I would pick something (anything!) in Zazzle’s geometric category.

  177. zaynabsophiarose April 21, 2015 at 9:48 am #

That pineapple print looks great! I would never have chosen such a print in fear it would look tacky, but it doesn’t! Hmm if I could chose a print it would be Tropical Paradise Hawaiian Floral Fabric, I have images of ballroom skirt with denim shirt floating in my head.

    • zaynabsophiarose April 22, 2015 at 12:30 am #

I realized my email may not pop up using the WordPress app, it should pop up on your end.

  178. hopflower April 21, 2015 at 9:50 am #

Gorgeous dress and fabulous job on it. I love the fabric, too. I don’t know what you use to launder your nice dresses, but I use a product called Forever New which comes in a powder form, and is called Ovation if in a liquid form. It is a natural product that is not as harsh as detergents and helps to maintain the integrity of the fibres in your fabric. It is a combination of citrus and soda cleaners and comes in several sizes. It rinses completely clean with no residue. Cotton is best washed in lukewarm water, and this product really keeps your fabrics in top shape.

  179. Becky April 21, 2015 at 9:51 am #

I agree- pineapples are way better than cherries! It is a tough call, but I think I’d probably get one of the constellation prints. I’ve been itching for one for awhile, and I think this one could be lovely as a Sewaholic Granville. http://www.zazzle.com/constellation_fabric_charcoal-256674198767322847

  180. Angie April 21, 2015 at 10:00 am #

    angewoman807@yahoo.ca
Yay for worldwide giveaways! I love me some ikat prints. But they can be hard to find before they are all sold out! So I would love to get this one and it will definitely be a summer dress. Probably a frankenpattern with the skirt of McCall 6887. I’ve made the dress twice (View C) and it is still one of my favorite skirts to wear.

    http://www.zazzle.com/ikat_floral_damask_orchid_and_purple_fabric-256175702144789321

  181. Sarah Jane April 21, 2015 at 10:02 am #

What a great summer dress! I spent way too much time perusing Zazzle this morning so many cute fabrics! I am obsessed with making a dress with vintage bicycles on it this summer (I have no idea why – I haven’t even used a bike in years! LOL but whatever) so I would definitely choose one of their bike prints! 🙂

  182. Kristi April 21, 2015 at 10:42 am #

Ahhh this is such a great giveaway, thank you!! I would look for either some fun take on gingham (like the watercolor plaid) because I’m obsessed with gingham dresses, or a fun novelty print like the pineapples or birds or something haha! Oh, and I would make a dress, like the one you made because that is so fun!! 🙂

  183. Emmely April 21, 2015 at 10:57 am #

Oooh, I would so design my own fabric and turn it into a super unique classic tailored shirt!

  184. Deb H April 21, 2015 at 11:17 am #

Fun wishlist! I like the delicate red flowers, solo red iceland poppy and the vintage white lilies. The patterns put me in mind of the Hawthorn by colette patterns but with not quite such a full skirt. sigh..so many choices sew little time.
Nice job on your dress. Your inside seams are always so clean! Thanks for this chance 🙂

  185. channynn April 21, 2015 at 11:42 am #

I’d use the houndstooth for some outdoor pillows!

  186. Brenda April 21, 2015 at 11:51 am #

So cute! I would love to make this dress pattern up for my daughter in a Dr. Who fabric but I might have to have it custom printed.

  187. Ellen April 21, 2015 at 12:09 pm #

I love the Citrus Lemon that you picked out.

  188. Julie April 21, 2015 at 12:11 pm #

That’s a nice giveaway! Would love to make something out of this fabric (http://www.zazzle.com/bird_house_fabric-256209415674183359)
    jeacousin[at]gmail.com

  189. jeanine April 21, 2015 at 12:24 pm #

totally would pick the pimo cotton! love it!

  190. Naomi April 21, 2015 at 12:43 pm #

Cute dress! I would spring for an ikat and make some of those PJ- looking pants that seem to be in as real pants.

  191. B. Morgan Joy April 21, 2015 at 12:51 pm #

Oooooh, I think I’d get a bird damask-like print on cotton twill for a simplified Robson. Or not simplified, I don’t know. (What is my deal with bird and feather prints? I am not an especial fan of birds in the flesh! And yet, the yearning is powerful. Maybe my cats’ preferences are rubbing off on me.)

  192. Emily April 21, 2015 at 1:01 pm #

I love the “Woodland Fairytale Creatures” fabric, even thought it says its for a nursery. I bet it would make a cool dress. Everything is pretty, though!

  193. alexalhayes April 21, 2015 at 1:03 pm #

gahhhhh I just looked at this pattern last night and ended up not buying it because I don’t like the sewn examples they show on the front! had I seen your post first, I definitely would have bought it (plus all patterns were 40% off) because your dress is absolutely adorable and super well-fitted. I’ll just have to go back! I’m always a bit shocked by fabric prices so I get all of my fabrics on clearance and from the ~1 yard scrap piles (for tops), so this gift card would be amazinggg for me to actually get fancy fabrics for once! I don’t normally go for fabric patterns like this, but I love San Francisco. the colors are so great!

  194. becky April 21, 2015 at 1:37 pm #

I need cute summer dresses with pineapples!! 100% honest here: if I win I am ripping off your idea anso ordering the pineapples

  195. Terzi Begum April 21, 2015 at 1:39 pm #

I think “Cute pink watercolor hearts pattern abstract gray fabric” is just the right one for my next summer dress!

  197. Kelly April 21, 2015 at 2:00 pm #

Perfect summer dress. I love the print – right up my alley

  198. Claire Ross April 21, 2015 at 2:10 pm #

I am loving the scribbled sheep fabric. Love the fact that it looks like flowery shapes and then you look closer and see the sheep xxx I think your pineapple dress looks fab xx

  199. LyllosMig April 21, 2015 at 2:46 pm #

I love your pineapple dress! I would probably try to design my own fabric in some kind of retro print. I would sew a summery dress too or a top and short or skirt set. Thanks for making this a worldwide giveaway, yay! Love your blog!

  200. Melanie Williams April 21, 2015 at 3:10 pm #

I would probably design my own fabric with a geometric design in crazy, almost clashing colors. My favorite.

  201. The Lemming King April 21, 2015 at 3:18 pm #

There are a few fun beetle prints, and one or two butterfly ones. I’d probably pick the small apollo butterflies and make a sun dress using the Elisalex bodice and a gathered skirt.

  202. kaloskraft April 21, 2015 at 3:42 pm #

Love this dress—I think I just generally love princess seams! For the fabric…I like Ernst Haeckel’s Leptomedusae Fabric-I am a sucker for jellyfish and I do not have a jellyfish dress in my closet yet. Thant needs to change!

  203. amcclure2014 April 21, 2015 at 4:53 pm #

If I were to win, I’d choose to have my own design printed. My youngest daughter is getting married and we are quite keen to get some fabric printed with the family tartan.

  204. Kim April 21, 2015 at 5:04 pm #

I love pineapples. As you know pineapples are so hot right now! At least they have been in Australia this summer.

  205. ambersausen April 21, 2015 at 5:27 pm #

The dandelion on green background would be just dreamy as a summer shirtdress. It has just enough novelty for a giggle without screaming at you…a lot like your subtle pineapples, Lladybird!

  206. Sox April 21, 2015 at 6:07 pm #

You look lovely in your dress. I love subversive prints -they look innocent from afar but up close they are something else entirely.
While not sneaky, a summer dress would look fun in a different lemon print https://www.zazzle.com/lemons_background_pattern_fabric-256538578505841380
Thank to you and Zazzle for such a great giveaway.

  207. sockmonkery April 21, 2015 at 6:20 pm #

Lovely dress! Well, I may have to go with one of the Ernst Haeckel prints, either the leptomedusae in blues http://www.zazzle.com/ernst_haeckels_leptomedusae_fabric-256898113256815493
or the undersea jewels here: http://www.zazzle.com/ernst_haeckels_undersea_jewels_fabric-256607683954456169

Even if I don’t win, these are AWESOME!

  208. Sue April 21, 2015 at 6:28 pm #

Hope I win! but I don’t know what fabric! It sounds a lot like liberty cotton….so a sleeveless funnel neck blouse, or S Betzina’s crossover top. In a fun flirty pattern- like your dress!

  209. Samantha April 21, 2015 at 8:03 pm #

Great dress! I don’t know what I would do with the fabric…but you can never have too much!!

  210. Erika April 21, 2015 at 8:06 pm #

    Oh my Glob!
    http://www.zazzle.com/cute_purple_cartoon_dinosaur_fabric-256172621154328664
Lookatit! lill triceratops. Come on! how could you not!

  211. Megan April 21, 2015 at 8:29 pm #

I like the White Polka Dots on Ash Grey Fabric (http://www.zazzle.com/white_polka_dots_on_ash_grey_fabric-256055162886882702). I’d make something basic like a shirt or maybe some shorts.

  212. Michelle April 21, 2015 at 8:40 pm #

I like this beagle fabric (because I’ve been thinking about getting a dog lately ^_^) http://www.zazzle.com/beagle_bay_sandy_beige_fabric-256237699472729055 It would look cute as home decor as a pillow!

  213. Michaeleen April 21, 2015 at 8:47 pm #

What a cute lil dress! And you look adorable in it. I think the design looks great on you. Those pineapples are giving me a hankering for a piña colada. 😘

  214. Shari April 21, 2015 at 9:48 pm #

omg wayyyy too many to choose! I could have browsed for weeks…here is the winner at the point where I quit looking:
    http://www.zazzle.com/aqua_blue_yellow_gray_geometric_chevron_pattern_fabric-256795936415493950

definitely for a dress…. although I don’t know which one!

  215. Jennifer Blackman April 21, 2015 at 11:20 pm #

I would love to have that pineapple fabric. It is awesome! And I would probably make summer clothes for my girls. 🙂

  216. SewDucky April 22, 2015 at 1:39 am #

I’d make my own with this duck in my pic.

Rubber duckies are a bitch to find.

  217. Alison Price April 22, 2015 at 3:40 am #

I’d choose forest trees fabric because it’s gorgeous and make a summer dress for my daughter as she’s about to graduate – love your blog by the wat

  218. learnbead April 22, 2015 at 4:30 am #

Bought McCall’s M6887 recently (What a lovely coincidence!). Your dress is amazing. Really excited to see that this pattern can be made into such a beautiful dress. I hope that I can make a similar dress (with sleeves) using the kitty fabric:p

  219. Amanda Werner April 22, 2015 at 5:39 am #

I really like this one: Tropical Palm Tree Bright Pink Sakuras Flowers Fabric

I’d probably pick a simple-ish fabric to show off the print and not break it up too much. I love how you didn’t do button holes so it wouldn’t gape, so smart!

  220. Angelica April 22, 2015 at 6:24 am #

I’d love to win a couple metres of eighter the vintage daffodil or lemon print fabric. Your dress is really, really cute, and the back detail is amazing!

  221. Reginasaurusrex April 22, 2015 at 8:53 am #

Oh, lordy. I need some of that butthurt fabric. Also, cute dress!

  222. trudy mae April 22, 2015 at 11:05 am #

oh man I need the “Kawaii Cats” fabric because who wouldn’t want adorable kitty faces all over every article of clothing? I could make a dress, or a pair of pj’s, or a cute blouse..the possibilities are endless :3

  223. redambition April 22, 2015 at 7:34 pm #

I had no idea Zazzle did fabrics! How cool! (and I love your picks and dress too :o) ) I would absolutely have to go for the black cat fabric… and make a rockabilly dress! With a red belt I think it would look amazing.

  224. Blythe Gold April 22, 2015 at 7:57 pm #

Definitely would get that adorable fast food one! Love it so much 🙂

  225. Eliza April 22, 2015 at 8:15 pm #

I have to have “My Butt Hurts”! My grand daughter (who is 4 y/o) would giggle and tell me I had bad words on my dress. Lol!

  226. Alexandra April 23, 2015 at 12:25 am #

Ooooh…. there are so many good ones to choose from, but the two that caught my eye, one is a lilac background with pink donuts on it and the other one is a dreamy aqua/turquoise/watercolory background with a pink lattice design over top.

As for what I would make…. ummmmm, my mind changes so much on these kinds of things, but both would look awesome as dresses (which I don’t wear regularly enough), but I would most likely make either some cute shorty-shorts or a romper type thing, or maybe a bomber jacket or some skinny pants. 🙂

P.S. I saw a picture on the internet of a dog driving a car and someone had super-imposed the pixilated deal Deal-With-It shades on and I thought of you. LOL

  227. Victoria April 23, 2015 at 12:31 am #

Ermagod. This is the best. Dress. Ever. And it’s actually to make a dress like this that I started sewing!!

SO. If I win, I’d make this dress, with one of these:
    http://www.zazzle.com/ocean_waves_fabric-256334161128996248
    http://www.zazzle.com/cute_red_watercolor_modern_cherries_pattern_fabric-256668347390722839

  228. Tessa Cowley April 23, 2015 at 2:02 am #

    Amazing dress and fabric!!

If I won I’d use the Fast Food Fabric. Not sure what I’d make with it yet. Too many choices!!

  229. Kate April 23, 2015 at 2:30 am #

Love the dress! The pineapples are too cute. If I win I might finally try out the Anna dress that everyone raves about!

  230. Jess April 23, 2015 at 2:49 am #

I love this! I’d been wanting to make it for a least a year but didn’t want to fuck with a lining. Danged if this doesn’t solve all my problems! I didn’t think bias would work at the waist. Looks fabulous!

  231. Frau Leo April 23, 2015 at 2:56 am #

Love the cut of the dress! I’d probably use the fabric to make a Simplicity S2917 out of it.

  232. Anne April 23, 2015 at 5:58 am #

Lovely dress. Tempted by the pineapples but the parrots would probably be my choice for a fun summer dress!

  233. Peggy Bowers April 23, 2015 at 8:26 am #

Cute dress. If I won I would choose the kitty print to make baby doll pajamas.

  234. hashigal April 23, 2015 at 11:00 am #

Alright, so it’s kinda obvious and you probably already know this because you’re pretty switched on, but I’m going to say it anyway. JUST in case! Because I have often missed what later is blindingly obvious and wished that someone had told me earlier.

Hang your clothes inside out to dry.

You get to skip the ironing (I used to get rather borderline OCD about how things are hung, but I’m loosening up as I get older and stop giving a fuck) AND the fading of beloved items (this I bit I haven’t yet managed to stop giving a fuck about; maybe in a decade or two).

  235. thesimpleseamstress April 23, 2015 at 11:46 am #

Totally infatuated with the back of this dress! Its such a lovely and fun detail that you don’t expect from the front! I love seeing your makes and you never fail to inspire me! Thank you!

  236. Erin April 23, 2015 at 12:32 pm #

I’m kind of in love with the cactus print you found! It’s so cool!

  237. bergonia April 23, 2015 at 1:31 pm #

That dress is amazing! I want to completely steal the whole pattern and fabric combo. I think if I didn’t completely steal your dress I would probably get the lemon fabric you posted or maybe I would get this green and gold dot fabric:

    http://www.zazzle.com/customize_your_own_gold_polka_dots_in_green_fabric-256602476832063869

  238. JamieLMac April 23, 2015 at 4:36 pm #

I would totally pick the bunny butt hurt fabric. What a great convo starter. I would make a top. One of those split back ones would be adorable.
Totally excited about the Zazzle thing because Ive been wanting make a doctor who backpack but haven’t found a great fabric. If it’s Doctor Who it has to be epic!

  239. Marguerite April 23, 2015 at 7:50 pm #

Wow! I’m always facinated by how some people know exactly what flatters them. You’re one of those people. As one commenter said, you have a great back! Sounds weird, but you need good shoulders and a great back to pull off this style. You also manage to get the princess seam in just the right spot. I’ve seen it over to the right and over to the left, yours is perfect. I’m thinking you could rock a Dior dart like nobody’s business!
Now for the Zazzle, I’m thinking anything with turquoise especially the one with dots. Definitely a dress, not sure of the style just yet.

  240. Rachel April 23, 2015 at 8:28 pm #

I love all the border print options on zazzle my fave is the nautical coral, orange and navy whales. It would make the cutest city gym shorts.

  241. Sandi P April 23, 2015 at 11:22 pm #

I would definately choose the “butthurt” fabric ! Thanx Sandi P

  242. melanie April 24, 2015 at 12:04 am #

    Really awesome dress!
There are so many fabrics to choose from – how would I decide!?

  243. Jenna Oh April 24, 2015 at 6:04 am #

I would definitely make a new dress – or two! I really need some 🙂

  244. Ju Wo April 24, 2015 at 8:00 am #

Love your dress and the fit is amaaaazing! I wish I could sew as well as you… in the meantime I am living a vicarious sewing life, gorging myself on your blog posts.

The parrots caught my eye first and OMG, that “butthurts” one made me laugh out loud, and no fabric has ever had that effect on me! PJ’s for sure with that – love it!

  245. shannon April 24, 2015 at 6:08 pm #

While I do love miniature pineapples, I’d probably go for a large-scale ikat print (as that seems to be my current obsession!)

  246. Selfadmittedgeek April 24, 2015 at 6:13 pm #

I love the cactus print so much!!! Would certainly go for a skater dress made out of that.

  247. embee April 24, 2015 at 8:09 pm #

I would love to make a summery peplum top or sundress out of the watercolor cactus fabric! I’ve never seen anything like it..it’s so sweet and quirky 🙂

  248. Tanya April 24, 2015 at 10:09 pm #

Oh my gosh, this is the cutest dress ever. I love the cutout back, and the dress fits you so perfectly. I’m so glad you enjoy my pineapple watercolour print… seeing my design turned into such a pretty dress really made my day! 🙂

  249. Teresa April 25, 2015 at 6:07 am #

Woo hoo! This dress looks super cute! I’d love to try some zazzle fabric…I’d probably make a dress out of it!

  250. Della L. April 25, 2015 at 8:57 am #

Out of that lot, the lemon citrus fabric is definitely me! After seeing a sneak preview of this dress on instagram that you beautifully put together, I went out and got it the same pattern on sale at my local fabric store yesterday for under 2 bucks… yay! So, I’d most likely make this same dress in that summery print.

  251. Heather April 25, 2015 at 9:26 am #

I love the neon 80’s print. I think that is the exact print my Trapper Keeper had.

Love the pineapple dress! There are so many fun and amazing fabrics to choose from but right now leaning towards Elegant daisies or Joy which both would make a great skirt or dress.

That citrus lemon fabric MUST BE MINE. It’s everything I didn’t know I needed!

I’ve been looking for a backless summer dress for ages and this one looks perfect! I would definitely get some giraffe fabric because they’re my fav animal haha

Nice dress… even if I’m 18 lbs more, I wish I could win this pattern. Love the pineapple fabric. Thanks for the contest

Hi! I would choose Vintage Blue Butterfly to make a sundress using Vogue 9100.

Loving the pineapples! I’m pretty sure I need a dress with some kind of creature printed all over it. I’m liking the look of giraffe floral pattern or maybe the watercolour turtles…

The pineapples are quite cute, but I think that butthurt fabric sold me. Please count me in for the giveaway!

Well that is difficult just one design. I’d go for…
black and white paisley pattern Fabric and it would be transformed into a dress

I adore the cacti fabric. I’d probably make the Southport dress by true bias as I am currently in love with that pattern. 🙂

Hah, that tropical fruit print! I swear I had a little jumpsuit made of fabric exactly like that when I was 8. I remember those pink and purple palm trees. Super funny to see it here.

I guess I’m a bit late to the party, but I’ve been reading through all the old posts. Love your blog! I’ve learned so much (and discovered so many good patterns!). Plus I appreciate a good amount of snark, property applied :p
