Well, we’ve made it through another week of Me-Made-May! If we’re being honest here… I’m kind of struggling a little The weather has been SO awkward and unpredictable – a little chilly one day, then hot the next – making it difficult to figure out how to dress, especially since I don’t want to repeat outfits. But I powered through! I did, I did!
5/11, Saturday
Top: McCall’s 4488
Skirt: Thirfted, reconstructed by me
Jacket: Gap, reconstructed/resized by me
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Born
It was so chilly this day! Boo!
5/12, Sunday
Dress: Colette Rooibos
Cardigan: Thrifted
Belt: Me-Made
Shoes: Born
Mother’s Day! We met with my parents and niece for breakfast, and then my mom and I took a quick shopping trip (to Children’s Corner lolol because my niece needed some stuff), where I took this picture. I love this dress, so so so much, but it’s a little big now 😦
5/13, Monday
Dress: Colette Ceylon
Shoes: Nine West
Another dress that’s now too big. It looks fine in the picture, but I was SO uncomfortable all day. Sadly, I don’t think this can be taken in anymore.
5/14, Tuesday
Blouse: Simplicity 4676
Skirt: Self-drafted circle skirt
Belt: Banana Republic
Shoes: Franco Sarto
I love this outfit! That polka dot blouse really does go with everything 🙂 Oh, and I feel like I need to mention these shoes – I’ve been lusting after them for over a year, but they were about $75 at Nordstorm and I couldn’t afford them (as I spent most of last year paying off debts – which I’m now debt-free, woohoo go me). Then they were gone forever and I was sad. BUT, I found them on Sunday at Rugged Wearhose (which is like Marshall’s or TJ Maxxx, except for a ~younger crowd~) for $30. In my size! Best find ever!!
Dress: Vogue 1086
5/15, Wednesday
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Franco Sarto
I really was not feeling this dress when I put it on… it’s too flowy/loose for my tastes, and the colors aren’t really me. But I got SO many compliments on it all day! Plus it is really nice and cool for hot weather. So this one stays 🙂
5/16, Thursday
Dress: Colette Parfait
Shoes: Thrifted
Another dress I’m not really feeling these days. The back is loose now and the straps keep falling down, no matter how much I shorten them.
5/17, Friday
Top: Megan Nielsen Briar (unblogged… I just finished this the other night. Need to take some pictures!)
Skirt: Megan Nielsen Kelly
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Keds
Bag: Po Campo
Today is Bike to Work Day! I celebrated by… biking to work! Haha! Honestly, it was a little difficult this morning… my meet-up group did not meet up (and SHAME on the leader for not notifying anyone… I waited at the park for 20 minutes 😦 I was so excited to meet other cyclist commuters in my neighborhood, too!), so I biked it solo. Which was fine – I’ve biked to work before, although not at the new location since my office moved downtown. Also, it’s very rainy today. Mostly drizzle – and my bag is waterproof, fuck yea – but I guess it turned a lot of people off, as the turnout was very small. Oh well, I got free coffee and a scone so I’m happy 🙂 Plus – BIKING. YAY.
So… what did I learn this week? Well, I’m just NOT feeling most of last year’s stuff. A lot of it doesn’t fit right anymore – too big to feel comfortable (on me) and I don’t even know if I want to bother with trying to alter it down. Thinking about sticking some of this stuff on Etsy or eBay and just trying to unload – specifically the floral mini dress, the embroidered silk shell top (REALLY mad about that one!!), the nautical-inspired linen dress, the red gingham dress, the white eyelet maxi dress and that Ceylon. Would anyone be interested in this stuff? It would be sized for a 36″ bust.
A couple things I wanted to mention –
– I edited this into yesterday’s post, but just in case you didn’t see it – Juli has generously given us a discount code for her shop, we can all celebrate Use the code LLADYBIRDBIRTHDAY for 15% off everything in the Sweet Little Chickadee Shop – patterns, embroidery kits, or those amazing labels. The code is good through Tuesday 5/21. Yay! Thanks, Juli!
– This is TOTALLY random, but my super rad little brother is going to be in the UK this summer, and he was wondering if anyone wants to meet up and possibly show him around or even offer a place to crash for an ight 🙂 Maybe *I* can’t be there (hm, maybe if I sell those clothes I can start a ~London Savings Account~ haha), but baby brother is the next best thing, yeah? Matt is srsly awesome, he’s 23, a little skateboarder d00d, and looks just like me except with a beard 🙂 He’ll be staying in Ashford, which is 30 minutes south of London, from 6/19-7/30.
Here he is, in Florida last year, bearded and wearing a party hat hahaha
I guess that might be a kind of weird thing to ask, but if anyone is down for a hang, shoot me and email and I’ll send you his contact information 🙂 Maybe you guys can gossip about me or something haha
How’s everyone’s Me-Made-May going this week? 🙂
You have the best collection of dresses! I like the Rooibos especially. I’m struggling with MMM too – weather is warmer in SF than anticipated, and I’ve just had a lot of unexpected stuff on my mind. I can hardly believe it’s been 3 weeks, though!
The yellow cardigan combined with the “flowery” dress is really a stunning combination. The red and white polka skirt is great too with the denim jacket! http://www.design-closeup.com/
Having the weather change on you is definitely uninspiring-I feel your pain there.
I think you’d find buyers/takers if you unloaded your unwanteds (I’d jump for the Ceylon). They look great (as do you, of course.)
I love your collection! Maybe I have commented that exact same thing before… Oh, well! 😉 My month is going too fast, and I am busier with things other than sewing, which I didn’t anticipate, ugh!
Love it all, especially the Rooibos with the yellow accessories!
I would love your floral mini dress, but if it was short on you then it might be too short for my 5’5″ frame.
Yeah, it’s PRETTY SHORT. I wonder if it could be worn as, like, a tunic? Or something with leggins? I don’t normally wear stuff like that, so I dunno!
Neither do I! I think it’s a gorgeous dress on its own.
LOVE every outfit! I didn’t do MMM this year…don’t you get to this point and just want to throw on an old gap t shirt and a pair of old navy jeans?!
No way, my best tshirts are me-made 😉 HAHA but I know what you mean, and yes, sometimes I just wanna slum it up!
Totally wish I had bigger boobs cuz I’d buy up some of them dresses!
meeee too haha 🙂
Yay for biking indeed! Luckily I live close enough to work to walk…in London. Which is to say if your brother is stuck for things to do I will be around for some of those dates, does he know you’re offering up his time and company on the Internet though? Haha.
Also he might not want to hang out with some girl who goes on about how much she likes his sister’s sewing blog 😉
Haha, no, he asked me! He loves meeting new people. I was like, “Isn’t that weird; they are going to want to talk about sewing…” and he said, “No no, I think that’s so cool.” This is why I love my little brother, ha 🙂
Ha, he sounds pretty cool! I’m a newbie sewer so probably wouldn’t talk about sewing too much (erm…maybe). So yeah if he wants someone in centralish London to show him some sights/pubs I would be up for that. I’ll email you?
Yes! Sounds good to me 🙂
I love your bike bag! You make commuting to work look so classy – not the sweaty mess I turn into when riding to work. You have so many lovely dresses. I’m pretty sure I need some more now.
It is the BEST bike bag, totally worth it! It even clips to my rack 🙂 And hey – I’m usually a sweaty mess too (wait ’till summer, haha), I just bike slow to reduce it as much as I can 🙂 Biking in dresses is fuuuun!
I would love to get some of your made… But not the right size 😦 I am sure it will sell super fast. Love your version of Rooibos!
My boyfriend and I are going to be tourists in London around June 25th, and we were planning to meet up with loads of people (mostly illustrators and artists)… Maybe your brother can come say hello?
Yeah!! I’ll pass along your email addy 😀
I’m not going to sugar coat this! May in the UK has been horrible by and large. Temperatures around 10c somewhat like December. Woollens and boots are back out 😦 Hopefully we will have better weather by the time your bro is here. I live in the east so there’s nothing to show here unless he is seriously interested in agriculture! But I hope he has a great time in London.
Yeah, it seems like “summer” there isn’t very warm!! I’ll tell him to be sure to pack the winter wear… it would be awful to go with summery clothes and it be all cold, ew!
All your clothes are gorgeous, alas they’re not my size….I’m sure you’ll have no trouble selling them though!
Ooh – I’m a 36″ bust… Definitely try to sell them! And then post the link here. 🙂
I really need to start riding my bike in dresses – I always put gym pants on underneath because I’m paranoid I’m going to flash… Anyway, your outfits are awesome!
Riding in dresses is the BEST. You get a nice breeze and I swear cars are way more polite when they see a lady rider in a pretty dress 😉 I used to be afraid of flashing, but really, as long as your skirt isn’t REALLY short or really really flowy (and even with the flowy you can, like, tuck it or tie it to keep it down), it’s not an issue. Plus, I mean, a little flash of undies never hurt anyone hahahahahaha
Your collection is gorgeous. Its great to see how many things you end up with after sewing for so long. I did “ride your bike to work day” today also, and it got me thinking that I should do it more often! I’m wondering if I would pack a bag with work appropriate clothes, or try to find a skirt pattern that was bike-wearable. Any suggestions? Also, we are a similar frame and I would be happy to take any of your fabulous creations off your hands. 🙂 especially that navy dress. Simply beautiful!
Haha well, I actually don’t bother with bicycling-specific clothes. Most skirts/dresses are totally bikeable. The only time I bring a change of clothes is when it starts getting REALLY hot; then I wear shorts and change when I get into work so I’m not sitting in my own sweat or whatever. The ladies at Let’s Go Ride A Bike have some really great posts for biking in “normal” clothes (and dresses!) and there are also some good tips on the Po Campo blog 🙂
I love seeing your round ups because it’s so inspiring for what I can achieve from my handmade wardrobe! I love everything 🙂 Unfortunately at 5’9″ I fear I am too tall to wear the dresses you are selling. If only I was shorter I would be begging you for them! I’m sure you’ll have no trouble moving them to a new home.
You have such a great wardrobe (and the Franco Sarto shoes are so cute)! I unfortunately have no bust at all, but I’m sure if you put any of your things up for sale they would go fast. Thank you for posting the discount code (Sweet Little Chickadee has such great customer service). I just used the code to buy the Tania Cullottes!
Yeah, her customer service is fabulous! And the packages always come wrapped up so pretty (with CANDY)!
I like how MMM seems to push everyone to wear less loved garments, and find out how great they look in them. Love all your looks, and totally sad your Rooibos doesn’t fit anymore. Still looks great, though.
That’s a shame that nobody showed up for your bike to work day! At least you looked great and got a free coffee and scone 🙂
Feeling you on erratic weather messing with MMM plans. Your outfits look fab though, especially Tuesday’s hot pink skirt!
If you want to sell your rooibos or your parfait let me know
I don’t know if I’m ready to part with those just yet, but if I do decide you will be the first to know! 🙂
Gosh, your Me Made wardrobe is SO diverse. Tell me Lauren, is there a look you can’t pull off?!
Px
You look so classy with your bike! I have total bike envy right now!
All your projects are so inspiring.
I LOVE your Megan Neilson biking outfit. I need more pretty staples in my wardrobe like these!
