here are two completed looks for my upcoming fashion show at local honey. actually, i have 3 looks, but the third piece is a romper that i need to make a belt for before i start snapping pictures – it looks pretty shapeless without. at any rate, two looks! yay! i am so behind & i am starting to freak out! haha!
i am really excited about these clothes, y’all. it makes the whole not-sewing-for-myself business a little more tolerable 🙂
here are the pieces from the teasie last week:
seersucker crop top (ok, that’s more like a bikini top!) & red high-waisted shorts!
i loooove this crop top. it’s so light & airy & summery! crop tops are pretty big here this summer (present company included in that tally!) so hopefully this will go over well. if it doesn’t, whatever. i’ll wear it! haha!
the red shorts are based off my favorite shorts pattern block with a bunch of modifications. the waistband is faced with horsehair interfacing so it won’t wrinkle & bunch from normal wear 🙂
sorry about the weird crotch; dolly isn’t actually made to wear shorts so she definitely wears them weird.
my favorite part about the shorts – the pockets are red gingham! and the buttons – couldn’t find exact matching buttons in my stash, but i did have two matching buttons in different sizes. i actually like the way it looks!
same issue with the back buttons – i didn’t have 3 matching ones, but 2 match perfectly & all 3 at the same color. good enough! isn’t the yellow ricrac fun? it’s been in my stash for yeeears haha.
second look:
yellow gingham halter top with denim shorts
the back. i’ve been seeing this twisty-tie halter neck bow thing all over the internet lately, so i thought i’d try it out too. i like how adjustable it is. it is really hard for me to figure proper halter & shoulder strap lengths bc everyone is so different – so this should work for plenty of people!
sorry it looks so wonky on the form – i didn’t spend too long perfecting it bc it was seriously over 100* outside (with a 75% humidity) while i was taking these pictures. gotta love the south!
looove this halter. the lace is a vintage piece from my stash – i had exactly enough. the strawberry button is, well, i just like it.
cuffed denim shorts. these were a bitch & a half to sew – i broke 3 needles (2 machine, 1 serger) in the span of 10 minutes. this denim is serious business!
once again, sry about the crotch.
inside detail – the denim was so heavy, i didn’t want to deal with 2 layers of denim + horsehair, so i faced it with the yellow gingham. and…
are yellow gingham pockets too matchy? say it ain’t so 🙂
(ps – don’t my nails look pretty? i quit biting them a month ago & i feel like such a grown-up now!)
next up:
this is going to be a sundress, with yellow piping & adjustable shoulder straps!
what do you think, internet?
I think it’s all AMAZING! I would totally wear those red shorts but I love the second outfit so much! Ugh I can’t wait to see the sundress ahhhh!
These are both so adorable but the second outfit is my favorite. Love the adjustable straps and the way it looks at the back. I’d totally wear it.
I can’t wait to see more- I love this rockabilly vibe your summer has!
I love both outfits but I REALLY love the secret gingham pockets on both pairs of shorts! x
Love it! I’m really digging the second outfit with the cool back ties. I have some lime green gingham that might just need to be sewn soon. 🙂 Great job!
I love both outfits, and really like the back ties on the second blouse.
soooo cute, lauren! I LOVE the denim shorts.. I’d wear them every day if I had those.
Beautiful!
Great job!
All so cute!
I adore that striped crop top. It inspires me to get going making a little crop top that I’ve been considering making all summer.
I also really like the way that in the second outfit, you incorporated the gingham into the shorts through the waistband and pockets. Marvelous!
That fabric is going to make a gorgeous sundress. I can’t wait to see it!
