The Refashioners of 2013 is in full swing over at Portia’s blog… have you gone to check it out yet? I confess, the posts are the FIRST thing I view every morning (yep, even before I check my email! What is WRONG with me!) because I can’t even wait. And hey, look who’s on there this morning… me!
Yep, Portia sent me a big orange sateen pencil skirt, which I turned into a cute little pair of booty shorts, a la Papercut Patterns Rite of Spring Shorts. Hot? You bet!
To see the full refashion in all it’s gory details, click over and check out my guest post! And do see the rest while you’re over there… Marie’s refashion in particular has me seething with jealousy. The good kind, anyway π
Thanks so much, Portia, for letting me play this year! I’m so excited to see everyone’s makes!
Oh my gosh you gorgeous girl, these are amazing (and I would actually kill for your legs….) x
Haha thank you! I don’t get a lot of leg compliments, so now I’m all flattered an’ shit π
Okay, stop mocking me with your butt shorts! I don’t have the pattern yet!
One question: if I have never inserted a zip fly before, can I handle these? How are the directions?
The directions are very brief, but it’s a basic invisible zipper insertion – not a zip fly (it’s in the back!). So you really could use any invisible zipper tutorial, or use a standard zipper and have it lapped or centered if you prefer π It’s super easy!
I can handle that! It’s settled then. I’m making me some butt shorts. π
YAY!! Butt shorts for everyone! π
Those shorts are MUY SEXY.
Query: I love those little tie shirts you wore with both sets of bootay shorts. Do you use a pattern for them, buy them that way, or refashion them?
The one I’m wearing in these pictures is thrifted and un-altered – it’s made to tie up like that (the front extends into little ties, if that makes sense). The yellow one I wore during Me Made May was a thrifted men’s shirt that I altered – I just gave it some fitting darts and left it a little longer/loose at the bottom so I can tie it π
Thanks so much for the shout out…I’m over the moon that you like my refashion! I’ve left a comment on your guest post over at Miss P’s, but I had to tell you again how much I lurve your booty shorts…like a lot! I adore how pin up they are and I think you’ll find this monochrome pair so versatile! I need this pattern…and the legs to go with it please!
Those shorts look amazing on you! Brings to mind a description I saw on an Australian sewing blog… “Great stems!”
I love it! I remember seeing this skirt on your dress form, and I love the result!
Just gorgeous Lauren, you look so hot!
Oh mustard, I love me some mustard. On food and in my wardrobe. Not the same kind of mustard though π Great shorts and great legs!!
Wow! I’ve got lots of pencil skirts in my closet and I’d love to try this out!

Dayumn, Lauren! I love the unusual color of them, they’re super sexy. Makes me wish I had your flat stomach!
These are KILLER!
Oh, fabuloso! What a great colour and fabric from the skirt and the shorts??? Too fab.
Sure great shorts! I love this pattern and what a great idea to make shorts from a skirt. Also, the fabric combined with that pattern is really cool. Well done π
Damn! Love those shorts and those hot legs! Off to check out the full post!
Super hot baby x
Oh WOW! A-Mazing! Those are hawt!
so cute! Now I want a pair of gold shorts!
My gosh I wish I could get away with a pair of these shorts. They’re divine!
DAYUM. Impeccable, perfect, divine. And that’s just your legs! And yes, the shorts too. I couldn’t wear that colour and I suspect I couldn’t wear the shorts (I have a lot more butt, these would be closer to a g-string on me) but I LOVE them and think you’ve done an amazing job on the refashion.
