Another week of Me-Made-May down! Haha my friends and family were already anticipating this… every time I met up with someone this week, the first question was, “Did you make everything you’re wearing? It is May…” Talk about being supportive π
With that being said, I started off the week (on Saturday, I mean) with a totally crap outfit/photo. WOOF.
5/4, Saturday
Hoodie: Avocado Hoodie
Tshirt: (hidden, but I promise it’s there!) Organic White Renfrew
Jeans: Imogene+Willie
Shoes: Just some shitty house boots from Urban Outfitters, aha.
The weather took a turn for the COLD on Saturday, and coupled with the rain and the fact that our heat mysteriously stopped working (wtf, srsly), I refused to leave the house and instead snuggled up in my cozy hoodie. I love this hoodie so much.
5/5, Sunday
Tshirt: Stripey Long-Sleeved Renfrew
Pants: Organic Red Thinlows
Jacket: Gap, reconstructed by me
Shoes: Keds
Bike: Not mine :3
Sunday was still a little cold, but the rain went away so I joined Trisha‘s Farmer’s Market bike ride and I’m so glad I did! Of course, I didn’t bring my bike, but there’s a Bcycle station right outside, so I rented one with my new membership. Anyone heard of these? There are scattered all up and down downtown Nashville, which means I can take little bike rides on my lunch break now YAY.
Also, I feel like I should mention the jacket I’m wearing. I bought it a couple of years ago on eBay for a Halloween costume (I dressed as a hipster, if yr curious haha) but I never wore it after that because it was tooo big. I tried cropping the length – it was originally much longer – and still, too big. I finally just pulled the hem band and sleeve cuffs off, took up the sides (I didn’t even bother with flat-felled seams because, hell), and then reattached the bands. The fit is SO MUCH better now, and now I can finally get some use out of this damn jacket! So pleased with myself haha.
5/6, Monday
Dress: Simplicity 6268
Trench: Sewaholic Robson
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Urban Outfitters (and they are shitty; never buying shoes there again, ew).
Another cold and rainy day π¦ At least my lace trench is a happy color π
5/7, Tuesday
Blouse: Simplicity 4676
Skirt: By Hand London Charlotte skirt
Belt: Banana Republic
Shoes: Thrifted
My boss told us we had to look extra-nice today (bc there were company bigwigs visiting the office, woohoo), so this is what I came up with. This is my front door; I was trying to ~mix it up~ with the backgrounds. Probably not going to take pictures here again, soo many cars kept driving by and I was getting self-conscious!
Oh, and because several people have asked: yes, that is a cowboy pig statue to the side. His name is Sergeant Deputy, fyi.
5/8, Wednesday
Top: Cake Pattern’s Pavlova wrap top
Skirt: Tilly’s Miette wrap skirt
Shoes: Nine West
WRAPPER’S DELIGHT, Y’ALL.
(and yes, I did actually wear those shoes all day… much to my surprise haha)
5/9, Thursday
Dress: Simplicity 1803
Jacket: Gap, reconstructed by me
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Born (expect to see these a LOT, I just bought them and I’m kind of in love :))
This outfit makes me sad that I swore no repeats for May… because it is awesome, and my favorite, and I kind of want to wear it every day.
5/10, Friday
Shirt: Jalie 2921
Skirt: Megan Nielsen Kelly skirt
Belt: Nashville flea market
Shoes: Born
Sorry this picture is so dark and shitty… as you can see, it’s raining AGAIN today. But hey, it’s Friday, so I can’t complain π
Things I learned this week on MMM…
– I need more basic knit tops. I actually have a couple yardages of fun striped knits, plus some solids I just got from Mood the other day… I should probably get cracking on that.
– I forgot how much fun it is to wear crazy bright prints.
– I am SO GLAD I just cut into that denim jacket and made it fit !!! Now I just need a short blazer/jacket that is not denim so I can wear it with jeans and not rock the Canadian Tuxedo look π
How’s Me-Made-May going for you (if you’re participating)? Have you made any brilliant wardrobe discoveries yet?
You have so many incredible Me-Made pieces in your arsenal. It’s really fun watching the ways you put them together to create outfits.
Add learning to make knit tops to my list of lessons/tutorials I need from you! π
I MUST HAVE THAT SWEATSHIRT PATTERN! Adding to cart….
I’ve done really well with my MMM13 pledge, too, but have yet to blog my outfits! Guess I need to catch up and get to it.
you are so darn cute and original!! luv it π
The patterned dress really suits you, combining it with a denim jacket in a great idea. Love your miette skirt too cos I’ve done one as well for a friend π http://www.design-closeup.com/
I learn that I am a sewing machine during Me-Made-May. I just finished my second Sorbetto top and have plans to work on another top when I get home.
I’ve discovered that I need to sew more tops. Any and all sorts! I’ve avoided them and spent most of my time sewing skirts or pants. I also found I need more lounging pants that are made by me. So much easier to clean and put in the dryer and wear again. Unlike my RTW pants that I can’t put in the dryer because they will shrink. GRRR! Shrinking clothes make me so mad. Why can’t they preshrink stuff? Just another reason to make my own clothes!
I’m so going to be ready next year.
Awesome picks L! I think you should say screw that to not repeating…this is America! You can repeat if you want!!!! π
You can do a me-made-year! I can’t, I would be naked most of the time π
Love all of your looks but especially Sunday’s. I’m glad you figured out how to get some use out of that jacket.
I haven’t made any for MMM but I did just finish a superb bra! My best one yet and super cute.
I saw that! All I can say is, there better be a pattern in the workings…. π
Great week of outfits! I love them all and I like the mixing up the backgrounds. I’m trying that myself!
Check out By Hand London’s new blazer pattern! That would be perfect for you!
Oh yeah, I saw it! Can’t wait to get my hands on that pattern… π
Love your outfits! I have been doing no sewing or much me-made-wearing due to bathroom remodel but I had an epiphany for my Refashioners project, so I’m psyched about that (if it works out).
I have had those Born shoes on my wishlist for awhile, I may still get them. Ha! The Born brogues I have are ay-may-zingly comfy and cute.
Ohh I had a good epiphany for my Refashioners project, too! Can’t wait to see yours!
Get those Born shoes, girl! Idk what size you wear, but most of what appears to be left are 8-10, with the odd 7 floating around. I’m fairly certain I bought the last size 6.5 in that color hahah,
Nice outfits! I really like the way me-made-months help us reflect on gaps in our wardrobe!
Lauren, all are fabulous outfits. You are so creative….
You have THE BEST handmade outfits missus!
Hi Lauren, I’ve been following your blog for quite some time now, and I am amazed how one person can be soooo creative and productive. I could never make it through a whole month of me made things .. I’d be naked most of the time I’m afraid.
Anyway, I’ve been meaning to ask for forever: would you mind sharing where you found that totally awesome pink bird (swallow?) necklace? It’s a fabulous piece of jewelery? And I envy you every time you post a picture wearing it!
Thanks for your great blog, tutorials and inspiration!
Katja
Thank you! You’re probably not going to like the answer I have in regards to my bird necklace (I think it is a swallow, btw. Well, that’s what I call it anyway hahaha), though π¦ It’s from Pangea, a local boutique here in Nashville. It’s actually several years old – I think I got it in 2006? I haven’t seen it there since. I tried to do a quick Google search but I don’t see it for sale anywhere… and I have no idea the maker (it was a gift from a really really really shitty ex boyfriend… dumped him, kept the necklace lol), so I’m not sure how to narrow it down. All I know is that it’s a new piece of jewelry, not vintage, it’s plastic, and he paid about $40 for it. Wish I could help more π¦
Hey Lauren, thanks a lot for your answer, even if it’s a bit sad for me π¦ I guess I’ll have a look around etsy, maybe I can find something similar there. Thanks again for trying to help!
Oh and hehehe, dumping the stupid guy and keeping the jewelery? I think I’m “guilty” of that, too π
I love the Wrapper’s Delight! What an awesome Me Made May… Mine is going OK except I am getting so boring and repetitive what with having only 1 dress, 1 pair of pants, 2 tops, 2 cardigans and 3 skirts. I agree with you that knit tops are so key… you can repeat the same skirt more often but tops need to change up more!
heehee I love the red pants with the red shoes!! Your me-made outfits are the bestest π
Oh yeah, I totally have. Namely, I do not have enough clothes!! Plus, florals are OK in small doses. I think that’s pretty major π
Btw I liked the denim jacket/ bright dress a lot too!
Ha, your refashioned Gap jacket reminds me of the one that I wear CONSTANTLY . . . because it is LONG ENOUGH for my extra-long torso and orangutan arms! I picked mine up at Goodwill a few years ago. Don’t think they’re exactly the same model but it’s hard to tell. Does yours have all red stitching inside?
Hahaha that’s funny! I don’t know if mine’s the same; I bought it on eBay a couple of years ago so I’m not sure how old it is. The stitching is brown on the inside, as is the wrong side of the denim. Kind of interesting looking!
I need more basic knit tops, too. Actually, I need just ONE knit top to start with lol. I keep forgetting I have the Renfrew in my stash. WHY haven’t I sewn that yet?!
Fabulous outfits, Lauren. One of my daughters was looking over my shoulder at your blogpost and loves your Kelly skirt.
Gorgeous outfits, you have such an envious me made wardrobe!! I’m doing ok with the challenge, and I’m learning a lot, namely that it’s not a good idea to do this challenge whilst moving house haha!
Love these photos. You are seriously the cutest sewin’ blogger ever! Can we pretty please get together sometime this summer? I was so bummed not to have met you at Q’s shower!
Yes yes yes let’s please!!! I was sad I didn’t get to meet you, either, let’s fix that asap!
Love your outfits, and your pictures! So far I have only thought about what I am gonna make, but I am getting some of my me-mades worn.
All of your MMM outfits are great! Meanwhile though…have you just abandoned big four pattern companies completely? It seems you never feature these anymore. You blogged recently that the new Vogue patterns were boring. That puzzles me cause honestly, when I look at the indie patterns, they are so very plain! It is only your fabric choices and the way you style them that makes the difference, not the designs themselves from what I can see…..Am I missing something?
Not completely, but you’re right that we don’t have the same relationship that we used to. The last few patterns I’ve sewn from the Big 4 have been WAY off in terms of size and fit, so I’ve stuck with my beloved indie patterns (and my GIANT stash of vintage pattern that I am slowly trying to work my way through haha). For me – and this is obviously going to be different with everyone – I like the indie patterns because they ft me much better out of the envelope, the drafting is superior to the Big 4, and I just like supporting small designers (even if it means they cost a lot more). My issue with Vogue’s design isn’t that they’re plain – it’s that they keep repeating the same basic silhouettes over and over and calling it “new.”
Well, I have noticed that many of the indie patterns say that they are drafted for curvier figures, and since I am not built that way (I am taller, skinnier)…maybe that is the issue. I do enjoy your blog though…I’ll keep following along and maybe I will start to see more in the indie choices.
This is RANDUMB, but if the black shoes you’re wearing in the 5/7 outfit are size 8, I’ll give you one meeeeeeeeelion dollars for them. I cannot find a style that looks like that ANYWHERE, and I need those shoes. *cries* Ahem. As you were. π
They’re actually a 6.5! Sorry, I have small feet π¦ You wouldn’t want them anyway; they’re falling apart and held together with super glue hahaha.
Option 3, you can hire a professional to refinish your existing tub.
Having your bathtub occupy a corner in your bathroom is also a more practical use of space.
Say you moved into a house that needs some work and your bathtub
has big chips, or even cracks, in its uneven surface with an outdated finish color.
