Well, folks, it’s official – Me-Made-May is back for 2013! Yay! I had so much fun participating last year – so of course I’m signing up for this round!
‘I, Lauren of LLADYBIRD, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’13. I endeavour to wear a minimum of one handmade garment each day for the duration of May 2013, with no outfit repeats.’
This is basically the same pledge I had last year, but I suspect this year won’t be as easy – I’ve been slowly pulling summer clothes out of storage (I really should just make the swap and put all those winter clothes away; we’re up to nearly 80* at this point), and a good chunk of them are much bigger than they were last year š¦ Some of the stuff can be altered to fit my new size, some I will just need to chuck and remake altogether. Instead of focusing on wearing a different garment every day – something that I easily accomplished last year (gah, my closet) – I will be using MMM’13 to encourage mixing different pieces to create new outfits. I can wear the same shirt every single day in a week if I want to – but it has to be styled in a different outfit, and no outfit repeats. I can do this!
In addition to my shrinking closet, May tends to be a pretty busy month with different specialized outfits (at least, for me!) – it’s Bike month, my Birthday month, and my family generally likes to go on a beach vacation for Memorial Day weekend, which means… Bathing Suit month as well! I guess this means I need to get cracking on those planned swimsuits I bought fabric for, so I can fulfill my MMM requirements even while laying out in the sun š
Same as last year, I won’t be posting daily outfit photos to my blog (although they will be uploaded to the new Me-Made-May ’13 Flickr page), instead, I will recap every Friday. This should make it easy to skip if you aren’t interested in looking at outfit posts š
Speaking of Me-Made, I’ll be back later this week with a finished dress š Honestly, it should be finished by now – it’s been hanging in the sewing room for 3+ days, waiting on a hem – but I’ve spent the entire last week drinking in the sunshine with friends instead. Sewing takes a backburner when there is a pretty spring day to enjoy, amirite? š
Here’s a little peek – I used my Betsey Johnson bow print silk. Man, that stuff sucks to sew haha.
What a cool challenge! The scarf fabric is awesome, I love bows.
*yay* I missed it last year. Maybe I should participate this year. It looks like so much fun! I really enjoyed following it last year!
WE. LOVE. THAT. FABRIC. Too bad it’s being a pain to sew, but at least whatever it’s going to be is going to be AWESOME. Good luck with your upcoming wardrobe challenge!
This is going to be my first MMM so I’m pretty excited! I’m also excited to see that new dress of yours š
Sunday I totally planned to sew all day but it was the first really nice day, so I enjoyed it with beers on the deck. So yes, youarerite!
This will be my first MMM and I’m nervous as I don’t have nearly the volume of sewn things that I want to, so I think it’s going to get really boring. lol But the fact that I even have sewn enough to *finally* be able to do it, I’m super excited about! š
Thanks for the shout out – I’ll have a think about whether I’ll have enough to get away with! Might have to make some knickers. Do they count? Does it have to be visible? Also, yay that you have spring and get to wear your awesome spring clothes! It’s still really cold and grey here (well, now more grey than cold), so I’m very jealous. But happy that somebody is getting some sun!
You can tweak the pledge however works best for your lifestyle – so you can include underwear and jewelry, or perhaps just commit to Me-Made a few times a week instead of the full month š
Cool š I did have a sneack at So Zo’s blog – I’m really tempted! I think if I include jewellry, I have a good chance of making it, and a good challenge on my hands, too!
I hate hemming. Hate it! Sunshine and good times with friends definitely wins over hemming.
Great challenge! I might have to do it next year, I don’t think I have enough handmade items for this year though!
i really want to join in but would have to refashion so many clothes as i lost a dress size.. better start sewing fast. ohh Im back to the UK. Im going to start planning our sew bossy yeahhhh
Yep, I’m in the same boat as you – everything I have from last summer is too big. WAH.
I need to get crackin on this Sew Bossy ASAP!! I have been slackin’, ha!
Is the bombshell dress too big???
I’m afraid to try it on :X
YAYS!!! So glad you are in this year!!! LOVE that you’ve tweaked your pledge to be super useful and additionally challenging for yourself. Can’t wait to see those swim suits as well! Zoe xxx
THANK YOU for hosting! I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with – and how you handle that growing bump š
CUTE fabric!
Can’t wait to see the Friday recaps! I find that is so inspiring for those of us that are still hesitant about doing it for the whole month. Good luck š
Yay! I love Me Made May. Looking forward to lots of handmade goodness and OMG, that bow fabric.. I already know that’s going to be good.
My life is sorta hectic right now, but I am so tempted!!!
Hrm. Thanks for posting the link! I think I might just do this!

Am looking forward to seeing your MMM13 outfits. I’m debating whether to take part or not. Just not sure I have enough me made garments for a full month – not without doing a lot of washing! š
Lucky you! It’s hard to imagine having drinks in the garden when we’re still wearing scarves and gloves in Scotland!
Yesterday, while I was at work, my sister stole my iphone and tested to see if it
can survive a twenty five foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation.
My apple ipad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is totally
off topic but I had to share it with someone!
I’ve never heard of this. Sounds awesome.
I like reading through a post that can make
men and women think. Also, many thanks for permitting me to comment!
