Review+Giveaway: Draping/The Complete Course

2 Oct

A few weeks ago, I came home to a mysterious (and heavy!) package waiting for me from Laurence King. “Hm, I don’t remember ordering anything from LK recently,” I said to Landon as I tore the shit out of that package.

Draping

“Oh. Oh!
(psst! click the pictures to enlarge)

draping1

Draping: The Complete Course by Karolyn Kiisel is more than just an instructional book for producing draped patterns – it is a massively intense course – complete with over a thousand color photographs and an accompanying DVD to supplement the various lessons – to guide you through the process of draping. From the necessary tools (and before you ask – yes, you need a dressform to use this book the intended way), to preparing your muslin, to draping lessons for specific patterns and fabrics, this book covers everything. Seriously, everything.

Draping2

Dresses, bustiers, pants, blouses, skirts, knits, coats, gowns, bias – you name it, this book is gonna teach you how to do it, and it’s going to give you a famous pattern to rip off in the process (Glinda’s pink gown from The Wizard of Oz? Check. Something slinky and bias worn by Jean Harlow? Check. Crazy tuxedo jacket designed by Dolce & Gabbana? Check!).

Draping3

While I haven’t had a chance to start the draping projects in the book yet (and believe me, I am chomping at the bit to dive headfirst into this!), I have really enjoyed just reading it cover to cover like it’s a romance novel. Each section starts off with a bit of history (which I love love love! Sorry, I’m a nerd :)), exercises with variations, and finishes with a big draping project. The included DVD offers additional hands-on support for those of us who need a little more guidance beyond pictures.

Here are a few sample videos. Ooh, I want one of those wrist pincushions.

Draping4

Now here’s the fun part! Laurence King has very generously offered a second copy of the book up for giveaway! Yay! Who is gonna win and drape away with me??

GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

If you would like to enter to win your very own copy of Draping: The Complete Course, simply leave a comment below and let me know what dream garment you’d love to learn how to drape. This giveaway is open for US RESIDENTS ONLY (sorry!! The book is just really heavy. I’ll have something that includes everyone later this month; stick around for that ;)) and I will close the comments next Wednesday, October 9th 2013 at 6:00PM CST.

GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

If a giveaway just isn’t your bag, you can also order the book on Amazon. It’s currently almost 40% off the $75 list price.

Good luck!

  5. Trice October 2, 2013 at 10:26 am #

My pre-ordered book just arrived yesterday, I have been reading since. Feels like I am in school again. I love the history lessons that came with the book. I only wish this book was bounded differently because I hate breaking the spine. Anyhoo, I definitely will be draping with you.

  6. Anonymous October 2, 2013 at 10:29 am #

I would love to make something that looks like an Alexander McQueen idea… which might take more than one book..but it would be a start!

  9. Laura October 2, 2013 at 10:32 am #

I’d love to read this just to get a better idea of how things are supposed to fit. I’d probably have to fall under the category of noob, but I love a challenge!

  12. sati5000 October 2, 2013 at 10:37 am #

I am drooling over that book! It looks like it has so many great ideas for draping, but I might have to start with that Jean Harlow dress – so gorgeous!

  13. Deon October 2, 2013 at 10:39 am #

You showed a photo of my dream garment – a Jean Harlow dress! To me, that seems like the epitome of “draping.” Of course, I don’t look anything like that, so I’d probably have to try something more practical.

  14. Tanya October 2, 2013 at 10:39 am #

I would love to figure out how to drape those slinky late 30s gowns and early 40s dresses with the crazy form-fitting ruching. Thanks for the chance!

  15. sarah October 2, 2013 at 10:40 am #

Wow! What an amazing resource. I would attempt to copy some of Claire McCardell’s amazing creations.

  16. hechoconhilo October 2, 2013 at 10:42 am #

Congrats on the new jobs, by the way!

  18. occasionallyobsessivecrafter October 2, 2013 at 10:43 am #

Oooh! That looks like a lot of fun. I recently bought a dress form, and want to use it more in sewing projects (I’m still trying stuff on a lot). With Halloween approaching, I’d love to be able to drape/draft/copy Daenerys Targaryen’s blue dress from Game of Thrones.

  19. Denise October 2, 2013 at 10:45 am #

I would LOVE to take a shot at that tuxedo jacket. Sign me up!

  20. Kira October 2, 2013 at 10:48 am #

Oooh, would I ever love to learn how to drape! I have an asymmetrical blouse in my mind that I haven’t been able to find a good pattern for.

    • Sherri October 2, 2013 at 10:53 am #

I would love to win this book. Can’t wait to see what you make with it.

  21. Emily October 2, 2013 at 10:49 am #

I’m not sure what I would make! But I think like you, I would start with snuggling up and reading it cover to cover.

  22. Sarah W. October 2, 2013 at 10:50 am #

This is the most amazing book! I’m not sure what I’d most want to make.

  23. knitmo October 2, 2013 at 10:51 am #

I would love to drape anything! and everything! Bustiers, fancy dresses, form fitting dresses and everything in between.

  24. Mary Elizabeth October 2, 2013 at 10:56 am #

Ooh, I’d love to figure out how to recreate some really snazzy vintage patterns that I’ve seen but are waaaaay too small for me.

I would love to learn from LK!

  26. Anonymous October 2, 2013 at 10:58 am #

I’m not living in US, so I’m not eligible, but you are such a good seller. I will probably treat myself and order the book in Amazon to complement my already rich collection of fashion books! Thanks for the review.

  27. lapastourelle October 2, 2013 at 10:58 am #

This will definelty fill a hole in my book collection.

  28. smonakey October 2, 2013 at 11:01 am #

I’m still in learning the basics mode, but I’d love to get to the draping stage of the craft! I’ve added the book to my wish list, but I’d love to win it, instead!

  29. Ping October 2, 2013 at 11:01 am #

Omg that coat! And that corset!! I would love to learn how to drape those gorgeous origami-looking bodices and fancy polonaise-esque skirts. Basically, drool.

  30. Sarah October 2, 2013 at 11:02 am #

Thanks for the giveaway! I’ve always wanted to make a 30’s inspired evening gown – slinky, bias cut, low back, interesting seam lines.

  31. Carol Carrier October 2, 2013 at 11:05 am #

Thanks for the chance to win! I’d drape something great for New Years

  32. Ree October 2, 2013 at 11:05 am #

Wow! What an incredible book! I would love to use the techniques to make ultra-slinky lounge wear.

  33. Forrest October 2, 2013 at 11:06 am #

Wow! I reall ywant this book! I would love to learn to drape something slinky and bias cut… It kind of scares me just thinking about it though.

  34. Anonymous October 2, 2013 at 11:07 am #

I’m not sure where to start – I want to drape everything!

  35. abailey0674 October 2, 2013 at 11:13 am #

What a great looking book! Knowing myself I would have to take in the book from cover to cover and then go over it again and then decide what I wanted to make 🙂 I am such a researcher. I have to look things over and over before I decide. When I received I Colette book I read it from cover to cover, then looked through it again. Then decided to make the garments in order…should have just made them in order in the first place 🙂 But thats me…

BTW…didn’t have the chance to congratulate you on your new job…but congrats!!!! Good for you!!!! So happy for you. So nice to see people get to do things they love.

  36. edenz October 2, 2013 at 11:14 am #

I’d love to drape a bias dress.

  37. alexa shelton October 2, 2013 at 11:16 am #

Wow that book looks incredible. I really want to learn to drape to recreate some of the beautiful dresses I see on pinterest.

  38. zilredloh October 2, 2013 at 11:18 am #

Oh yes! Include me in this giveaway. I’ve been seeing this book all over and I’d love to try my hand at draping. If I don’t win, I may have to hop out and buy the book for myself.

I’d love to make a cool – vintage inspired 40’s dress, but that’s probably way down the line from a starter project. For starters, a nice skirt with bias elements would be grand. 🙂

  39. sarah October 2, 2013 at 11:19 am #

I would love to be able to drape an a-line skirt with the perfect fit.

  40. Deanna October 2, 2013 at 11:24 am #

Ahh! I’ve been looking for a 1930s pattern for a birthday dress! My 30th birthday is coming up in 6 months and it’s going to be my golden birthday, meaning I’m turning 30 on the 30th. So I’m having a 30’s themed party. That Jean Harlow dress would be absolutely fabulous. Hubba hubba!

  41. Pam October 2, 2013 at 11:25 am #

    Pick me pleeeeeeease!

  42. Alison October 2, 2013 at 11:26 am #

I’d love to learn any sort of draping. I think that would help me understand the hand of fabrics so much. I’d love to drape a replica of the suit my mom got married it. =D

  43. ThreadTime October 2, 2013 at 11:28 am #

What an awesome giveaway. I’ve recently discovered draping during my search for fitting solutions and would love to add this to my (slowly) growing collection.

For me the dream garment would be tops/jackets that fit and hang correctly. I’m working on a muslin for a French jacket now and plan to try draping for a better fit on my next muslin. Enjoy your book and thanks for the chance to share in the wealth. 😀

  44. steffaniarosa October 2, 2013 at 11:30 am #

I’d love to gain more experience in draping dresses, especially more vintage styles from the 20s.

  45. Janaya October 2, 2013 at 11:33 am #

I’ve always dreamed of making a thirties style evening gown, but in a fabric that would be more daytime appropriate. Ahhh the luxury! What a great giveaway!

  46. elizacarter1024 October 2, 2013 at 11:33 am #

Man I want that book! I took a course on pattern making and draping in school and unfortunately the only draping we did was of a basic bodice and skirt. The books were totally crazy amount of money and they suck. I haven’t even used the draping book since because unless your in the classroom it’s difficult to understand. But this book looks like the real deal for sure. I already got the professional size 6 dress form and lots of muslin, pattern paper, tag board, etc. I just need a good book.

  47. Isidore October 2, 2013 at 11:39 am #

This book looks amazing! Right now I’d really like to drape a bias cut nightgown I saw in a shop window.

  48. Nicole Martinez October 2, 2013 at 11:40 am #

OMG they make it look so easy but i bet its a very hard process and technique to master. Ive just started out sewing so im just trying to get fitting down but this would be very fun and interesting to read

  49. Colleen October 2, 2013 at 11:45 am #

It sounds like something I’d love, especially the history!!!

  50. Rachel Finn October 2, 2013 at 11:46 am #

I’m drooling a bit over that asymmetrical collar, but I would love to drape something ballet inspired, soft, voluminous, and modern. Thanks!

  51. lifeisjustduckie October 2, 2013 at 11:49 am #

I would love to learn how to drape Myrna Loy’s fantastic diagonal strip dress in The Thin Man movie; it’s ridiculously gorgeous! That book looks amazing, as well, and if I don’t win it I might have to just buy it….

  52. Taryn O October 2, 2013 at 11:50 am #

What a CRAZY exciting giveaway!!! I would love to learn to drape a neckline down to the side in a gown or dress.

  53. Wanda Stewart October 2, 2013 at 11:52 am #

I would love to learn to drape. My first try would be a blouse.

  54. Ash P October 2, 2013 at 11:52 am #

  55. KellyBrown October 2, 2013 at 11:54 am #

I really, really want to learn how to make drapy cowl dresses. They work great for my bustline and are so attractive and versatile!

  56. Ms. McCall October 2, 2013 at 11:56 am #

Drape a trench coat?? Wow, that’s amazing! I don’t even need a trench coat, but I might develop a need if I won the book. The first thing I would drape though would probably be a slouchy woven tee – somehow I think draping would be easier than endless FBA tweaking.

  57. Jenni Lithgow October 2, 2013 at 11:56 am #

Holy cow! Um, I would drape ALL THE THINGS!!! LOL! Probably I would start with a wrap dress for the fall. . .

  58. Treasa Antony October 2, 2013 at 11:57 am #

    Hi,
Thanks for the opportunity to win this fabulous book. I want learn to drape a bustier among other things. ;o)
    Thanks,
    Treasa

  59. Jill October 2, 2013 at 11:58 am #

OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Pick me! Pick me! I am dying to sew a bias cut evening gown a la Vionnet of the 1930s.

  60. Jaime Tanis October 2, 2013 at 12:06 pm #

I am glad to see a review of this book cause it has been flying in my radar for a while now. So cool!! Wow- what would I want to learn to drape? I am reminded of the video series that follows the Chanel drapers thru the making of a collection- I think I would want to drape a jacket like the ones they do 🙂

  61. anto October 2, 2013 at 12:07 pm #

What an incredible book! I would love to learn how to drape that trench coat. I was learning how to sew corsets last year and early this year so draping that would also be a dream.

  62. Meri October 2, 2013 at 12:08 pm #

I would loove to make a wiggle dress, although I’m not sure when I would wear it… I haven’t made a good “frosting” garment in a while. Great giveaway!

  63. Sara K October 2, 2013 at 12:09 pm #

I have a dream of someday making some corsetry. Or a sexy wrap dress a la Pinup girl clothing’s Ava dress. Or hell, just learning about how to make clothes that fit me (short-torsoed, bottom-heavy hourglass that I am)

  64. Kristine October 2, 2013 at 12:10 pm #

Wow, that book looks AMAZING! Yes, please enter me in the drawing… I would love to be able to make gorgeous formal dresses with breathtaking bodices!!! The vintage patterns have the best styles, but never are available in my size…

  65. Rachael Telford October 2, 2013 at 12:17 pm #

oooh! Ooooh! me, please! Thank you and LK for offering the giveaway. My fingers will be in a constantly crossed state…

  66. Elizabeth McAlister October 2, 2013 at 12:17 pm #

Oooooooh, shiny! I want that, but as I am lumpier than most, no Harlow bias for me. That coat though, that I would love to try, oh and did you say knits?oh! Oh! Pick me! Pick me!

  67. Clio October 2, 2013 at 12:17 pm #

Count me in! I would get to work on a bustier the day it arrived.

  68. Joanne October 2, 2013 at 12:23 pm #

Very cool book! I would love to learn how to drape a beautiful silk gown. Your blog is one of my favorites by the way 🙂

  69. robin woods October 2, 2013 at 12:28 pm #

I would love to create a custom designed LBD that is not too fancy, not too casual and perfectly made just for me. I’ve always compromised and for once, just once, I’d like to have a perfect dress.

  70. mazeliving October 2, 2013 at 12:30 pm #

I have been having the hardest time with fitting. You know that moment when you try on your muslin, see that it is just somewhat off and think that you can make it fit better? And then you start improving and can’t even get it as good as it was to begin with…. Well, maybe it is just me. I am yet to figure out what alterations I need, but sometimes I think that I may be just better off tryin to drape. What garment? A garment that fits ME! That is what I really want to make!

  71. Meg Kundert, AIA October 2, 2013 at 12:32 pm #

I would love to learn to drape! I think I am ready ready for it and my dress form is ready. I’d like to drape a jacket with a peplum, or maybe start with a soft shawl collar blouse.

  72. Katelyn Caufield October 2, 2013 at 12:34 pm #

This is so cool! I’d love to learn how to drape a beautiful, very well structured gown of any sort. Maybe I’ll look into buying the book even if I don’t win!

  73. yarnthulhu October 2, 2013 at 12:36 pm #

I would drape all the things! Seriously, though, I’d love to try out draping that trench, or just learn how to properly drape on the bias.

  74. Feminizzle October 2, 2013 at 12:37 pm #

What a beautiful book! I’m pretty sure I have another book of his and it was really inspiring. As to what I would make… a bias gown! I’ve been wanting to make one for quite a while and this would be an excellent introduction!

  75. Grace October 2, 2013 at 12:37 pm #

Holy crap that’s a great give away! What I wouldn’t give for a dress form in my size. No matter, I have plenty of access to dress forms in other sizes. I would drape a denim jacket becuase I can’t seem to find a pattern (pther than the burdastyle petite) that suits my needs. I’m also curious about draping sleeves so that is something I’d be dying to read up on in this book.

  76. deborah830 October 2, 2013 at 12:38 pm #

oh lala lladybird – i’m so happy for this giveaway! I’ve been lusting after this book since the second i heard about it last week! All the drape classes in town of this calibur are like a million dollars, and have tons of prerequisites that I’ve just taught myself!
And I think the real question isn’t what do i want to drape – but what DON’T I want to drape! 😛 First would probably be a simple, soft & warm wool cardigan out of some light merino to go over – well, probably nearly everything. 🙂

  77. Jen Jen October 2, 2013 at 12:39 pm #

This looks amaaaazing! I would love to try draping dresses. These methods look so feminine. Love it!

  78. sengagalvin October 2, 2013 at 12:42 pm #

ooh, huge draping book and movie. This is exactly what I need. I love your blog! my dream garment is a practical and glamorous nursing dress.

  79. Sarah AJ October 2, 2013 at 12:49 pm #

I’d love to learn how to drape anything and everything. I’m always envious when watching Project Runway!

  80. Beth B. October 2, 2013 at 12:57 pm #

I would love to drape knits, so cool to see that included here!

  81. Amanda October 2, 2013 at 1:01 pm #

I’d love to read this just to get an understanding of the theories and techniques behind draping. And so I could dream up clothes and not rely on a pattern to make them!

  82. Amber Hunter October 2, 2013 at 1:02 pm #

I would love to make the Breakfast at Tiffany’s dress! I have been drooooollllinnnggg over this book forever now!

  83. VictoriaR October 2, 2013 at 1:08 pm #

I have been reading many great reviews of this book. I would love to have it. I’m sort of boring in that I would love to drape wool coat.

  84. delamija October 2, 2013 at 1:08 pm #

  87. Lizzy October 2, 2013 at 1:13 pm #

Ah! this is a great give away! I would like to learn to drape, even if I live in México, I have an address in USA where you can ship the book 🙂

  88. Brooke October 2, 2013 at 1:25 pm #

I would love to drape a goddess style dress, or perhaps something with intricate pleat designs.

  89. sewingpetal October 2, 2013 at 1:26 pm #

ME, ME, ME!!!! I would LOVE to have the book & the accompanying DVD and learn to drape. At the moment i cannot think of a specific garment, but it would give me a great excuse to splurge on a dress form and then I could drape EVERYTHING!!

  90. Debbie October 2, 2013 at 1:30 pm #

I would love to learn how to drape in general! I don’t have a dream garment in mind at the moment. I would just love to learn the skills to be able to make whatever I want whenever inspiration hits me, and not have to look for a pattern to use or alter.

  91. Debra Howard October 2, 2013 at 1:42 pm #

I have multiple projects in mind…I love the fashions from the 1920’s-40’s Hollywood Glam period, but also need some well-fitting leather pieces; i.e., halter-style vests, pants, etc. for riding my ‘baaad motor scooter’ but don’t want to ruin expensive leather until I can properly put the pieces together for a finished look that I would feel confident wearing. Also picturing Marilyn’s pink gown from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes for next year’s costume. So many ideas, yet still lacking the skills from this great resource to accomplish them. Keeping my fingers crossed 🙂 Good luck to all and a BIG thank you to Lauren for sharing!

  92. Kristin Saunders October 2, 2013 at 1:44 pm #

I want to read that entire book from back to front! As a history goober myself, I’d love to just read it even if I don’t create anything. But, my sister is traveling to Greece for a wedding this summer and has already asked me about making her a dress to wear. Her inspiration dress is from Anthropologie and I just can’t find anything close to it. I think having this book would just help me become a better sewist overall! And the pictures look drool-worthy….

  93. Chrystal McKay October 2, 2013 at 1:45 pm #

Wow what an incredible book! I have always wanted to learn how to drape a sweetheart neckline bodice like on gowns you see on many Marchesa gowns. So that is what I’d want to learn through the book! Beautiful! I live in Canada but have an American address I can ship to (I conveniently live 20min from the USA border!)

  94. Viktoria October 2, 2013 at 1:53 pm #

I’d love to drape an incredible evening gown. This book looks stunning!!! crossing my fingers 🙂

  95. rdejam October 2, 2013 at 1:55 pm #

I’m dying to learn draping so I can make beautiful dresses.

  96. Carrie October 2, 2013 at 1:59 pm #

I would love to learn to drape my own clothing, especially a prefect fitting bodice. I love your blog!

  97. Tyan October 2, 2013 at 2:00 pm #

Oh! I would love it! That books looks like a treasure trove of information.

  98. jennifer stephenson October 2, 2013 at 2:01 pm #

I would love, love, love this and give it a good home! I would put it to use in attempting to recreate some of the gorgeous vintage dresses I lust after on etsy but that aren’t really in the budget for me these days… thanks for doing a give-away and sharing the love!

  99. Marchelle October 2, 2013 at 2:03 pm #

A ball gown! A floor length strapless one that doesn’t sag down all night long. But since I really don’t have an occasion to wear one, and I’m not sure draping will stop gravity, coats. And blazers.

  100. Roxanne October 2, 2013 at 2:07 pm #

I’ve been drooling over this book since I saw it on oonaballoona.
Oh lord, if I wasn’t a broke just-out-of-college student it would be mine!
That dolce&gabbana jacket is so crazy I need to at least muslin it.

My fit issues tend to center around the upper body, and I have concluded that the only way to conquer this problem is to learn to drape. I have high hopes that this book has those answers!
As for a dream project, well…there are many, of course! For one, I would really like to make a cocktail dress. Every once in awhile I need one, and I’m tired of looking, well, underdressed or ill-fitted on those occasions. Admittedly, I was somewhat inspired by the book images selected, but it is something I’ve thought about for some time… Thanks and please enter me in the giveaway!

Wow…just saw a great dress with a Big Bow draped on one shoulder(She’s Got it Dress) on Linda Evangelista in Bazaar, Oct 2013, not fussy, but dramatic! The draping looked intense (or maybe I am a scaredy cat). After all my tailoring classes, this could be the one to step up my skills! I I am itching for a holiday project!

I would love to make a whole outfit (jacket, dress, bag and other accessories) for our celebration-12,5-year together-party 🙂 in September next year. We will give a big party, like a wedding party, so a special outfit would be required. Since my hobby is sewing, this has to be a handmade and self designed one. I’m just started with designing my own patterns, so this would be a nice addition to my skills :).

  166. Dutch Girl '84 October 3, 2013 at 3:45 am #

And I even willing to pay the shipping 😉

  185. Laurel October 3, 2013 at 11:43 am #

I would really love to drape the perfect wrap dress – the one that is the perfect length, skims any, um, flaws, and has just the right amount of cleavage without gappage!

  186. grabill October 3, 2013 at 11:57 am #

I would start by draping a tunic. It would be awesome to creat a garment made for my measurements specifically rather than trying to adapt a pattern.

  187. Seattlerain October 3, 2013 at 12:03 pm #

Ohh, I want to drape a dress for myself so badly! It’s so intimidating, patterns are very easy to follow…draping is so free-form! This book looks gorgeous though, I’ve seen it around a few places ♥ Love!

  213. Kat October 3, 2013 at 11:16 pm #

OH! I would love to have this book to help me learn to draft my own patterns. Especially something as gorgeous as Jean Harlow’s bias dress by Adrian:) or that beautiful and flirty trench coat. I do have a dress form but I’m usually too intimidated to use it, this book would definitely give me the confidence with it’s step by step instructions. Thanks so much for this giveaway.

  216. Erin October 4, 2013 at 4:03 am #

I’m a dork, I know this. My dream project would be a Halloween costume- Sarah’s ball gown from the Labyrinth!

  222. Erin Slonaker (@pepperknit) October 4, 2013 at 2:28 pm #

I have it in my head that I will sew myself a dress to wear to a family wedding next spring: It would be amazing if I learned how to actually drape something for it!

  223. Audie Demeter October 4, 2013 at 7:48 pm #

Really I would like to drape anything – no more patterns to cut, resize, store! Plus I’m a total nerd that would enjoy the challenge. I would love to drape a copy of my grandma’s wedding dress, although I don’t know when I would ever wear it as I’m already married.

  224. Jaimie October 4, 2013 at 9:42 pm #

Looks awesome, probably a bit advanced of where I am now in terms of making clothes, but I’ll get there eventually. 🙂

  225. tami October 4, 2013 at 9:50 pm #

This is the second time I have read about this book and I sooo want one. I would love to learn to make a great pair of slacks.

  226. Rosanne October 5, 2013 at 12:47 am #

OMG! I didnt miss the giveaway! I would love to drape a woven dress with a sculted bodice and also a dramatic collar for a new winter coat. I have AMBITION baby!

Also, congratulations on your new jobs! So exciting =)

Oh, I’ve had my eye on this book! I love learning from books and I really want to learn how to drape, so fingers crossed for me. One of the first things I’d like to make is a lace-back LBD that I found a picture of online about a year ago. It’s been haunting me!

  235. Joanna Baker October 5, 2013 at 7:03 pm #

That’s like a draping mecca! I would definitely try and tackle that trench coat… love! Hope I win your giveaway =)

  241. Amanda October 6, 2013 at 10:13 am #

  252. Anonymous October 7, 2013 at 7:18 am #

That is a beast of a book! OMG! Fabulous giveaway. My dream garment to drape… le sigh. It’s a lofty one BUT I must make it. The amazeballs green dress from Atonement that Kierra Knightly wears. Actually, my friend wants me to make one in plum for my bridesmaid dress for her wedding. It has me peeing my pants in intimidation to be honest. But there are so many lovely 20s/30s dresses and the draping is holy intimidating. This book would help. Please please! I need to whip up a bridesmaids dress! ❤

    • Melanie October 7, 2013 at 7:20 am #

Oh hai. It’s too early, here’s my info. Derp.

  253. chierica October 7, 2013 at 8:30 am #

Oh how exciting! Long time reader of your blog, but first time poster.

So many dream garments are on my list, but I would eventually love to learn to drape Rita Hayworth’s entire wardrobe in Gilda. What a collection by the talented Jean Louis!

Best of luck on your new adventure!

  254. sewingishappinessSueann walter October 7, 2013 at 9:58 am #

Looks like a very nice book on draping, very helpful. I am currently working on my flat pattern drafting skills, but love draping for things that I am nor sure how the flat pattern pieces will look. Drop my name in the hat please and congrats on the new jobs!

  255. Julia October 7, 2013 at 10:01 am #

WOW! What a resource! This book is amazing, and I don’t think there’s a single thing in there I wouldn’t love to know how to make. I’ll confess though, my imagination seems to believe that my 5’3″ curvy self looks like Rita Hayworth in my head… so just to feed the imagination, I would have to make something to appease my inner peanut gallery.

  256. Aimee October 7, 2013 at 10:19 am #

Looks like a great resource!! I would love to make one of those lovely uniforms the Singapore Airline flight attendants wear.

  264. Anonymous October 7, 2013 at 2:37 pm #

Only problem is that I live in Canada, but we’re practically the same right? Right?! 😉

Sweet! I’d want to learn how to drape things that have interesting 3D or textual elements, since drafting those on paper blow my mind.

  275. missjoiedevivre October 9, 2013 at 5:43 pm #

I was so excited when I realised I’d got to this post 20 minutes before it closed (if ive converted the time zones right) and then realised it was for the US only. Wah wah. Man, you’d think if LK was going to use your fame to sell their books the least they could do is spring for shipping! Anyway, good luck to the rest of you 🙂

  276. Mary October 9, 2013 at 5:54 pm #

Holy cow! I’d love to win this!
