2019: Studio

Stuck on a confusing set of instructions? Need a little help learning a new technique? Just want some sewing banter to psyche you up? I am now offering Virtual Private Sewing Lessons, which means that now you can get the support you need without having to leave your home 😀 #staythefuckinside

Some ideas for your Virtual Private Sewing Lesson:

  • Deciphering confusing sewing instructions
  • Real-time demos for specific techniques
  • Help with fitting
  • Basic clothing alterations
  • Flat pattern adjustments
  • General sewing advice (such as fabric and pattern recommendations, finishing techniques for certain projects, advice for handling tricky fabrics, troubleshooting)
  • Or we can just chat because chatting is fun!

Sessions are available in increments of 30, 60 and 90 minutes, with various time slots available from 11AM to 6PM CST, four days a week. Your lesson will be held via Google Hangout, which is free and can be accessed through your phone, computer, or tablet. And since we’re all stuck at home, for a limited time I am offering these lessons at a discount of 20% off my standard hourly teaching rate.

To sign up, choose from the drop-down menu below and then proceed to PayPal to securely pay. After you have completed your purchase, click “RETURN TO MERCHANT” and you will be redirected to my Calendly page to select your desired time + date (feel free to check the page out prior if you want to make sure you can find a time that fits with your schedule!). Finally, you will be asked to share what you hope to cover in the lesson – this is so I can do any necessary prep work, meaning we can get right to the good stuff!

I know y’all got questions so here’s some FAQS!

Q: How will the video share work?

A: Depending on your lesson needs, you can either use the camera on your computer or phone (or both at the same time!). If you don’t have someone to help with holding your phone (I don’t!), I recommend using a flexible tripod such as this one [affiliate link], which works great to hold the camera at a good angle while also keeping your hands free.

Q: I’m camera shy, do I need to use the video?

A: You don’t have to use the video feature! We can talk on the phone or you can cover your camera so it doesn’t record you 🙂 We can also cover our lessons entirely via email if that is your preference. Just send me an email and we can discuss!

Q: I live on the other side of the world and none of the times you offer work with my schedule; is there any flexibility in your availability?

A: I understand that not everyone will be able to accommodate my time zone (CST/Chicago), and I am happy to discuss other time and date options! Please email me (lladybirdlauren AT gmail DOT com) and we can work out a time and day that is good for both of us 🙂

Q: What happens if I go over my allotted time?

A: I will set a timer and alert you that our session is nearly up; if you choose to extend the session (assuming the schedule is open), you will be invoiced for the remaining balance after your lesson has ended.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: Cancellations with a 7 day notice are eligible for a full refund. Less than 7 days but more than 48 hours in advance will receive a 50% refund. Unfortunately, cancellations with less than 48 hours notice are not eligible for a refund. If you are unable to attend your session, you may transfer it to a friend.

Q: How can I make the most out of my lesson?

A: Preparation is key! When you schedule your preferred time and date, you will be asked to share a little about what you hope to cover during the lesson. This will give me a chance to do any necessary prep work so that we can dive straight into the lesson when it starts. You may also email me photos, pattern instructions, etc as they pertain to the lesson. Additionally, it is a good idea to write down all your questions before the lesson so that you don’t forget anything!

Q: Will you be offering virtual workshops?

A: Unfortunately at this time it is not logistically possible for me to offer virtual workshops, but that could always change in the future!
