A few months ago, I was contacted by Spiegel (yes, the catalog company!) about trying out a new machine that they were in the process of manufacturing. “Free sewing machine” is one of the quickest ways to grab my attention (don’t even lie, you’d do the exact same thing), and I was especially intrigued when they told me the price point was under $300. Y’all know I’m a diehard for my Bernina & Pfaff machines, but we all know that a budget is a very real and personal thing, and not everyone can afford to spend $2k+ on a piece of machinery – no matter how much you just looove sewing. I get that – I was in the same position myself for a very long time. That being said, it’s hard to recommend something at a lower price point when most stuff in that category is just pure awful. Even $500 is a lot of money for a lot of people, and that’s about the bare minimum that I could comfortably recommend for a new/non-vintage machine. Super bummer. Sewing should be for everyone, not just the people with bulging bank accounts.
All that being said, I am pretty excited about this Spiegel 60609 machine! I will admit that I was pretty apprehensive about it’s potential shortcomings before I had a chance to try it out for myself – yes, it is a beautiful machine, but it is a polished turd? I was lucky enough to see the machine before it hit the stores way back in November – I stopped by the Spiegel headquarters while I was in NYC and spent a couple of hours being wooed with sewing machines and chai lattes, yay – and I’ve had this particular machine taking up residence in my sewing room since December. We’ve had some time to really get to know each other, and things have been pretty awesome. Spiegel 60609 is good stuff, y’all.
A quick overview of the machine – Spiegel 60609 is a computerized machine with over 350 built-in stitches, plus the option to download more stitches via iTunes and Google Play. It has plenty of standard and not-so-standard features – automatic start/stop technology (as in, you can sew with the press of a button instead of using the foot pedal), one-step button hole, speed control, twin needle capability, automatic needle threader, presser foot pressure dial, to name a few. It also has some very unusual, very cool features – it has a built-in Wifi station, which connects to the StitchCam located over the needle (!!!). The little gold shelf you see is designed to hold your cell phone or tablet, and there’s a Handy Hook that pops up to really secure things in place so they don’t bounce around while you’re sewing. Ideally, you’d have your phone up there to access tutorials on the Spiegel sewing app – but personally, I use it to watch Netflix while I’m sewing 😛 BECAUSE I CAN. Oh, yeah, and there’s a USB port in the side of the machine, which is super handy for recharging your phone after you’ve used up the battery on a bunch of X-Files episodes. Ahem. And the most important part – the stitch quality! It’s surprisingly good. Like, really really good. My only complaint is that the throat plate doesn’t have a lot of markings for seam allowances, but that can easily be rectified with strips of tape (or, in my case, Post-It notes).
Unlike most budget-friendly machines, the Spiegel 60609 actually has a heavy-duty metal frame (no plastic! Rejoice!) to keep it from bouncing around all over your table when you’ve pushed things to their highest speed. This metal frame extends all the way into the handle – so you can actually use it to carry the machine, instead of holding the whole thing like a baby (go ahead and laugh, but about a year ago, the plastic handle on my Bernina snapped in half and I dropped it on the ground. It’s fine now – it was fixed under warranty and the machine was not harmed, but MAN ALIVE that was a horrifying moment). It comes with an impressive array of included accessories – several feet (including a zipper foot, overcasting foot, blind hem foot, button hole foot, and non-stitch foot), extra needles and bobbins, screwdrivers, and quilting guides. It is my understanding that the machine was designed to be compatible with most standard low-shank feet (of course, neither of my machines have those kinds of feet – the Bernina is high-shank, and the Pfaff is one of the old German ones that *only* uses special Pfaff feet). I believe Spiegel is in the process of getting together a box o’feet that you can buy to use with the machine, though, if you’re in the same boat I am. I totally have a foot fetish when it comes to sewing machines, so I am pretty pumped about that!
The Spiegel 60609 retails for a hair under $300, and is available at Walmart (either in-house at your local store, or you can order online and ship free to your store) and also through Spiegel. While I do advocate supporting your local sewing machine store by purchasing through them, I understand that not everyone *has* a local sewing machine store, or can afford a $500 base model. Let’s be perfectly clear here – this is not a substitute for that high-end, several thousand dollar specialty machine. However, it is a great not-quite-so-basic machine that is perfect for a beginner, in a price range that works with a lot more budgets. Plus, it’s super pretty. Look at that fancy gold and white and tell me that’s not a beautiful machine. I dare you.
This post would be pretty useless without some proof of stitch quality, right? Here are some quick tests I did. I realize now that I should have included some comparisons of Bernina vs Spiegel – I will next time!
For this one, I lengthened the stitches by a couple mm and used a different color thread for the bobbin. The fabric is an old sheet, so it’s pretty sturdy.
Here are the stitches on a much more delicate fabric – some *very* lightweight Liberty of London cotton/silk voile. Still no skipped stitches and no puckers.
Finally, a sampling of some of the embroidery stitches and another shot of the straight stitch. Not too shabby!
With all that being said – I’ve decided to partner with Spiegel, so expect more 60609 love throughout the year! I will be sharing monthly projects and tutorials, all of which are sewn on the Spiegel 60609, to show how versatile the machine is. That is, if I haven’t convinced you already 🙂 I will still be using my other machines as well for other projects (let’s be real, those are my babies and I ain’t planning on dumping them off!), so don’t expect this blog to turn into a giant sales pitch. But if you want to see more of what the machine is capable of doing – well, I have some plans in the works! 🙂

GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED
Good luck, everyone! ♥
This is so exciting! I’m in the process of designing several bridal shower dresses along with my wedding dress. So the very first thing I’d get my paws on with this would be to tackle one of those! Shower dresses first in all likelihood because they’re due first!
I would finally tackle “The Farmer’s Wife – 1930’s”! Can’t wait to see the machine in person!
A dark navy blue black faux fur Gerard.
i AMSO BUMMED OUT! I JUST HEAR ABOUT THE GIVEAWAY AND IT IS CLOSED! Such a BEAUTIFUL machine and great features on top of that! will have to SAVE up for it, embroidery machine wiped me out!, LOL!
The first sewing project would be a summer dress for me! This giveaway is fantastic! 😀
Hmmmm, what wouldn’t I sew?!! I am constantly sewing and I mean constantly…even in my sleep. I think I would have her (already named “Goldie” of course after Goldie Hawn cuz she’s so cute) set up with some topstitching thread for my Ginger Flares which are coming down the pike 😀
This is great! The machine really is beautiful- and I appreciate all of the innovations. The cell phone holder and USB port are smart ideas. Now that we’re approaching the end of winter I’m realizing how much I really need a good winter coat. I’ve been looking into fabric and patterns already, so a coat would definitely be my first project. A brand new machine would be really fun to work with!
First project on this beauty, where to start?! I have had my eye on some Ginger Jeans for the longest time (and have the pattern), so I would dive in with those! Gold top stitch thread to match the machine 👌🏼
What a lovely looking machine!
I would get ready for the upcoming Spring season and create a floral A-line skirt :0)
Maybe a bag to go along with it.
What a great machine I would make a dress or blouse for myself.
Hi Lauren,
My first project will be the Kate Top by Tessuti in a charcoal light weight or medium weight linen. I also have a Liberty in a paisley to make up the Kate Top as well. The Spiegel 60609 is a pretty machine.

Love the phone shelf! I’ve been wanting to give sewing jeans a try so that would probably be my first project.
I love those embroidery stitches! I’d make some nice linen napkins so I could play around with them.
WOW! That’s a way better machine than I currently have! If I won this machine I would definitely feel more comfortable making clothes for my daughter out of some sheer fabric!!
I just finished my wedding dress and veil (well, 98% finished) and the giveaway ends right after my wedding weekend, but I’ve been drooling over this machine. My first project post-wedding is going to be a muslin of M6649- my first button up! I bet that stitch cam would come in reaaaal handy.
Did you say world-wide?! Oh, my! This is so awesome! I know exactly what I would sew on this machine (which is quite fancier than my super basic current one). I would make a shirtdress. I’ve wanted to make one for quite some time, but I’m terrified of buttonholes and my machine only does four-step buttonholes.
(owl.laughing@gmail.com)
This isn’t a brand I am familiar with as a beginner in the UK so that was really interesting to find out what else is out there other than the usual Singer, Bernina, Janome etc. If I won I would definitely make something like a Shirt Dress. The machine I have at the moment which is my beginner machine, has a 4 step buttonhole and it really puts me off making anything with buttons 🙂 I have been researching where to go with a computerised machine so something like this could be the way forward!
That is actually really stylish, maybe I would not feel so guilty about leaving it on the dining room table if I had that machine. I would probably attempt a denim type shirt dress, not sure I fancy doing all those button holes on my very basic Singer.
I’ve been wanting to make the True Bias Southport dress – I have some gorgeous rayon print fabric that I’d love to try on this machine!
Giveaway? Count me in. I love my Babylock, but there is always room for another sewing machine in my studio, no matter what the hubby thinks. 🙂
My first project would be some Jalie 3461 Eleonore pants! I’ve got them all cut out but haven’t had the motivation to start sewing/I’m a little scared cause it’s my first pair of pants!
Such a pretty machine! I’d sew a pair of jeans (maybe some more Birkin Flares?) to test it out!
Thanks for this review!
If I won this machine, my first project would be a floral dress in anticipation of Spring! S i.e. is beautiful, but spring flowers beat it every time.
That is a pretty great machine, looks like. I’d probably sew some jeans as my current machine is have troubles with super thick fabrics.
xxx
I’m planning an 80’s prom dress, so that would be the first thing I sew on this beautiful machine!! Thanks for the giveaway!
Yes! Pretty please with sugar on top! I would make a blue spring jacket and use some of the embrodery stitches on the pockets. It’s a beauty! Please send it to Sweden 🙂
I’m just getting back into costume making and have 3 very detailed costumes to make by August. I’d love a computerized machine with that!
Looks like it has some cool features. The first thing I would make would be something fun for me, since I have been making a lot of curtains recently. Maybe a jersey top, to see how it coped with sewing jersey. Thanks for the giveaway!
I love the look of this machine! So many more things I could do with this! Also yay to this being a worldwide giveaway!! I usually can’t enter since I’m in Germany. P.S, I love seeing email from your blog. Love the things you do and the way you write, it just sounds like I’m talking to a friend and that makes it alle the more fu to read 🙂
Forgot to mention what I’d make first. Was too excited about the fact it’s worldwide. Haha.
I think I’d make that dark blue fitted jumpsuit/romper I’ve been dreaming about…. Hmmmm…..
This looks like a pretty great machine for the money, and I would sew some Liberty of London summer blouses, I think. I really need some. Thanks for the opportunity to win the machine, and I wish you the best of luck with Spiegel.
I want to try my hand at lingerie sewing but my machine hates/eats elastic. My first project would be a Watson set.
Love the design and the fact that I could watch tutorials while I sew! My first project would be a knit laundry day tee. I love my Bernina but I am friggin’ OVER skipped stitches when sewing knits. I love knit garments but the frustration when sewing hacks me off to no end and sewing becomes a chore instead of fun. I NEED A NEW MACHINE (yes, Bernie is old and not top of the line). Lauren, please help me love sewing again?? Please help me make a simple knit tee without being forced walk away in frustration? please???
I’m machine less and have been trying to sew by hand and goodness it is not working so well. So my first project would probably be to resew this skirt I sewed. I thought it was all good but then I stood up at a meeting at work and let loose a good 1/4 of the skirt’s gathering. My boss is still laughing.
My sewing machine isn’t a fan of stretchy fabric, so the first thing I would sew would probably be a tank top or tshirt dress.
Oh! I know what I’ll sew! I’ll stop being a chicken and sew a bra! Love the blog!
This looks so fancy in comparison to my terrible beginner machine! I love the phone holder- perfect for popping some sunday morning radio on 🙂 I would definitely love to us this on a project I don’t trust my current machine on- a replica pattern I made of a favorite old dress in a nautical fabric I have been saving for it! x
This machine is impressive and since I already have machines, I would give it to my daughter! She is very crafty and has wanted a sewing machine. Since I am retired on a fixed income, this is a way for me to help her become a seamstress like her mother.😃
I love the place to put a smartphone, that’s so clever! My first project would be a Sew Over It shirtdress!
This is cool. I will be sewing a summer top and a tote bag first. Already in love with her. YAY!
I’ve been eyeballing this machine for awhile. The price had me thinking it might be terrible, but the reviews I’m seeing are saying otherwise. I’d love a chance to try one out myself!
The first thing I would sew on this machine is a birthday dress! Everyone need a special dress for their birthday.
I’d go for ginger jeans! Looks like this machine would do a nice job with topstitching. Fingers crossed!
Your review is the second review I’ve seen and both were good. It’s nice to see a new face in sewing land, it indicates that interest is growing. Yay! I can picture some beautiful little baby dresses with some of the decorative stitches for a first project. Sueann301 at yahoo.
I would love to win this! 😃 Not sure what would be the first thing I’d make with it though. I’d probably want to play with the fancy stitches for a bit. Thanks for the chance to win!
I’d make the shirt dress I’ve been planning.
What a gorgeous machine! I’ve had a denim skirt cut out for ages, would love to get that shizzle finally sewn up!
This machine looks great. If I won I would make my first Active Wear project on it, The Seamwork Aires leggings (https://www.seamwork.com/catalog/aires). ahsh.frampton(at)gmail.com
I need to finish some baby blankets I started. I also have some mending to do!
I reposted to correct my e-mail address. Sorry about that!
Awesome giveaway, Lauren. I’d love to give those embroidery stitches a go. And I see another pair of jeans in my future. Which would be the perfect project to see what a machine is really made of 🙂
The first thing I’d sew is embroidery stitches on every scrap of fabric I own.
I would make some cute 1940s clothing to Lindyhop dance in! What a amazing giveaway!!!
My first project on that classy white-and-gold lady would be something that takes advantage of the adjustable presser foot pressure–jeans, perhaps? I know it seems strange that I’d forego a fancy embroidered something in favor of such a workaday feature, but my own beloved machine doesn’t have it, and I can definitely tell when it struggles with very thick and very thin fabrics. I’d love to know what it’s like to glide through a heavy seam instead of laboriously cranking through it!
I have some beautiful, crazy print vintage 70s fabric, so I’d sew a 70s caftan tunic!
I would probably try to figure out how to make a silk archer with no puckering stitches – I can’t quite get them straight with my bottom of the range machine.
I would bust a move on my plans to learn to sew knits with a Lark tee!
Woho – a new sewing machine would be so great! I would sew a new coat, something I haven’t done yet.
Machine giveaway? Count me in!! I’m into shirt sewing now so another Archer will be my first project. Although I’m a Bernina fan myself, this machine sounds awesome for the price.
First project I would do is finish all my ufos. I have a great wool and leather jacket that I have been putting off because my little machine just can’t handle it.
Hi Lladybird & Spiegel! This post is definitely attention grabbing! I would love lovelove to sew myself a Raymond coat by French pattern company République du Chiffon (http://republiqueduchiffon.com/fr/patrons-pochette/54-manteau-raymond.html). This machine definitely seems sturdy enough to handle the thickness involved. Pretty please, merci beaucoup!
I would finish the wrap skirt that has been sitting on my workbench for 3 months!
I would sew some flowy linen pants. Spring starts early here in the deep south. What a wonderful giveaway, Lauren.
I love the look of this machine! And living in Germany getting this sewing machine would be really, really great!!!
And the first thing I would sew with it is a Ginger 😉
Greetings from Germany!
Marina
I will have to pick one up at Walmart next time I am there. I am new to computerized machines, so this is a good starting point for me. With a new machine I would sew button-down dresses and skirts. I avoid buttonholes right now and would love to see how the computerized machines handle them.
White and gold party dress to match the machine, because I love gimmicks.
I would love to win this machine. My first project would be a blouse with some fabric my son gave me for Christmas. My current machine makes awful buttonholes and it would be great to have a machine that likes buttonholes.
The first thing I’d make is a whole whack of mini briars for my baby girl. I’m SO TIRED of her cheap big box store clothes!!
I’d LOVE to be able to make my own dress for my husband’s graduation in May! He’s graduating from a PhD program (after two different masters programs) and it’s been a long time coming. I can’t find a dress that is absolutely perfect enough for the occasion and would love to make one!
This machine is beautiful! I would make more knot dresses, because you can never have too many of those!
My first project would definitely be a denim shift dress, they are popping up everywhere in the UK in time for spring and I’ve wanted to sew one for a while 🙂
What a stunning machine and at such a great price point! Amazing.
I would finally get around to making my Colette patterns Dahlia dress – enough procrastination! 🙂
I would sew a dress first thing. My sister is getting married in a month and there’s no excuse like a wedding to make a new dress!
So impressed this giveaway is open worldwide! Thanks to you and Spiegel for that! 350 stitches you say? Well, in that case I might just have to sew a felt wallhanging of a New Zealand bird in amongst the reeds and use all those pretty stitches to appliqué the brightly coloured pieces of felt on! After that it would be something from one of my multitude of vintage patterns, I’m thinking of a play-suit actually! Great review 🙂
I would make the dress I have for a formal this spring, planning on using the Starburst pattern from the November 2011 burdastyle.
My first project would be a denim shift dress, they are popping up everywhere in the UK at the moment and I’ve wanted to see one for a while 🙂
That is a sweet machine! I mostly sew dresses…. So a I would sew a dress on it.
Hmm, one can never have enough sewing machines, right? The first project on this machine would be a simple pillow case or so as I would sew together wiht my 6yr old daughter!
naehconnection at gmail dot com
Oops, missed out my email – it’s megan.parkinson.uk at gmail.com
Wow, that looks pretty cool. I would definitely like to try some activewear on that, starting with the Jalie Cora leggings. My Elna serger+cover stitch just died, and my dear, reliable, old Pfaff sewing machine has neither presser foot pressure adjustment nor a stretch stitch, so I would love a machine with those features!
Wow! Lovely looking machine. I would be sewing something up for my handmade honeymoon (road trip through the Deep South) Perhaps the Sew Over It Ultimate Trousers or the Tilly Orla top.
This is great!! My first project would be a basic cotton button down shirt. I would be looking forward to using the button-hole making stitch. Currently I have to go elsewhere to do them, so this would be an improvement!
I’ve got a knit dress cut out, so I’d give that a go first.
This machine looks awesome!!! If I won it, I would definitely whip up some more baby clothes and a few things for me (since nothing fit right now).
Baby items. Expecting a new one in our family in 7 weeks.
I would sew a Butterick 5526 button down, man! My favorite shirt ever, learned of it on this here blog! I am very intrigued by this machine – thank you for the opportunity to win one!
What a pretty machine! I’d probably finally try sewing one up of my Watson bra kits!
Thanks for the giveaway! I’m not sure exactly what I would make, but for sure I would try to make something highlighting those great decorative stitches, since my current machine can’t really do any.
Ha! I doubt I will win, but heck I’ve been debating a second machine for like 2 years. I have a Bernina 430 and love it, but need a travel machine. What would I sew first… Likely a super boring white button down. Or I can make my next pair of jeans, and have the Bernina set up for topstitching and this one for actual seams. Too many decisions!
How fabulous! My first project would be Style Arc Kerry Cargo pants!!!
I would use my Spiegel 60609 to sew a sleeveless dress for spring/summer. That machine looks great! I have three sewing machines and none of them work well.
I currently have a bunch of projects cut out, but am looking for a new sewing machine, so this would be perfect! My first project would be to finish a scrappy welder’s cap I am making for my husband’s new hobby.
So pretty! I’d sew the christmas presents I didn’t get to finish since my cheapie Brother machine broke in Dec.
I think I would dive into some summer shorts. What a beautiful machine!
I would sew a new shirt for myself!
Sarah
It is so pretty! Love the gold trim (and great idea to have a shelf on there)…My first project would be another pair of Ginger jeans.
Kristen
Yes please! I love my vintage machine, but it would be great to have some more modern stitch options 😀
Oh this sounds so cool!! The idea of a metal frame instead of plastic…my poor budget Brother starts to dance if I stitch too quickly. My first project on a sturdier machine would probably some Ginger jeans!
I would sew a new wardrobe for my new job that doesn’t allow me to wear jeans!!!
I’d have to take advantage of all those embroidery stitches. My two machines are very lacking. Probably some knitting project bags with lots of fancy stitches. Would love to add this to the collection.
Amazing giveaway. I would sew something for my new baby expected in September
I am gobsmacked by how beautiful the machine is. The number of stitches is very impressive, and it survived your testing! It is nice that there is a good machine out there for beginner and intermediate sewers.
Oh, yes ! I would startby sewing sew the long-awaited-long-moaned-after bottom pyjama pants for my boyfriend, who has been complaining about the lack of it since my previous sewing machine died…
Either some of the Fifi PJs or the new coat I’ve got waiting in the wings. What a pretty machine!
Wow what an amazing giveaway! The first thing I would sew would be a beautiful cover to keep my shiny new machine free from dust 🙂
H.
Wonderful giveaway! The first project I would sew is a shirt for my husband.
very impressive machine! it looks sturdy!
I forgot to say that I would love to sew a dress shirt for my dad!
How exciting! I would sew thurlows for myself first.
I love that machine! I’d love love love to win it. 😀
Oh and I would totally sew a bra on it!
I have been wanting a new machine for so long it’s sad (mine is over 30yrs old and tempermental), The first thing I would sew——-lots of mending to tell the truth then on to
clothes for myself. The mending has been on hold since as I said above, my machine gets stubborn and has to rest inbetween projects. There are so many things I want to finish, make, alter, I could go on and on. Thanks for offering this wonderful give-a-way.
I would end up sewing another one of my tried-and-true vintage house dresses. Nothing like an old favorite on some new hardware!
Looks like a nice machine for the price. I love those embroidery stitches! I would use the machine to sew all the summer dresses I’ve got on my summer sewing list!
Whoa! What a fantastic giveaway! I am in the same boat as people you mention. I have been sewing for a couple of years and burned through a couple of $200 models. I could use a machine like this. I would probably sew Simplicity 1104. I just muslined and was able to get a pretty good fit. Ready to move onto good fabric!
Thanks for the chance to win!
hi! (am so excited to enter i knocked over container of legos…) um, i would (begin) work on my fancy dress for next holiday season. thank you soooo much for doing this! i love my brother machine, but the bells & whistles… 🙂
I am very intrigued by Spiegel machines after this post! My first project would be more circle skirts for the upcoming summer 🙂
Such a generous give-away! I would sew up some much-needed work slacks.
My first project on this machine would have to be something that requires lots of topstitching. I’d love to have one machine to thread with topstitching thread and one with the regular stuff….
Cool! I would sew leggings.
That is one heck of a beautiful machine! I can feel me getting a bad case of the grabby hands.
I think I’d spend forever playing with those embroidery stitches and probably go mental and tell myself I’m going use one of my vintage patterns and embroider the crap out of it.
I would make a personalized craft toolkit pouch. It always amazes me that a sewing machine can do so much embroidery.
I’ve been thinking about lingerie sewing a lot lately so a pair of underwear would be a good start, I think.
Being able to watch Netflix whilst seeing and it’s right there? My heart just skipped a beat!
Machine looks frockin awesome!!! (Did you get the pun?)
Frankie
Knitwitsowls@gmail.com
Yay, a worldwide giveaway! I would take advantage of those embroidery stitches and make some really cute shorts.
I love the embroidery stitches! I would make something using them, like gift bags and gift card holders, and may even look for ways to add those stitches to clothing!
What?!? This machine looks awesome. I am currently only working on gifts for friends/family and my 3 boys. I would love to make ME something!
I have been itching to try quilting, and I would start out by requiting my baby blanket – it is almost 30 years old and has the lining of my Dad’s baby blanket that my Grandmother who passed made me. I found an old bag at a antique store that had the same pattern as one of the pieces on my baby blanket!
I’d probably sew a skirt on it. I’m in dire need of new skirts!
Wow what a great giveaway. I’m a new sewer so this machine would suit me down to the ground. Seeing as this machine is good at sewing delicate fabric I would make a slinky Fifi pyjama set from Tilly & the buttons. Fingers crossed.
😍😍😍 OMG it’s sounds like a dream come true!! I’d probably (actually) finish my Cinderella cosplay or maybe another 1880s dress…
Ooh, I would sew something with some of the lightweight, slippery fabric I’ve been hoarding. My current machine cannot deal.
Agh! I JUST bought myself a second-hand sewing machine because I just moved to Paris. But this one looks great. My next project is another tova shirt 🙂
As a mother I feel almost compelled to say I’d sew something for them, but I really want to sew a new bag for me!
I would sew all my Ohhh Lulu patterns and admire the beauty of adjustable presser foot pressure. Thanks for the giveaway! I’ve loved hearing about this machine and I definitely covet it.
Wow! This is such an exciting giveaway! I think the first thing I would make would have to be an Archer. It’s such a joy to sew if the fabric presses well, and I would have fun with the embroidery stitches on the pockets and/or the collar. Also, I think a woven fabric would be a good place to start when using a new machine for the first time. And I’ve got the perfect fabric in my stash 🙂
I love the retro look, pretty cool. A dress for sure, I haven’t had tooooo much success with patterns so I usually do a self drafted thing.
Gorgeous machine. I’d make a white ponte blazer with lace sleeves!
OOOOH! This machine is truly a beauty! And Spiegel really tried to make it versatile with all those features. Do you think it would make it through some jeans? I would love to try some Ginger jeans on this for sure.
Thank you for creating this exciting giveaway. I am a fairly new seamstress, but I am getting better with every creation. I have been sewing steady for about a year now, and I love it. I would make my wedding dress with this machine. I am 48 years old and plan to marry again. I would make my wedding dress, and this is the first project I would use the Spiegel 60609 for. Ps. I don’t have a wedding date yet. Pss. I also don’t have a manfriend yet, but they are both coming. 🙂
How exciting! I am one of those “budget” people & I do have to budget monthly! It looks like a wonderful machine! I currently have only a Janome basic machine. My 1st pattern would be the Fen dress, I have had the pattern in my stash waiting to be sewn.
Thank you so much!!
Wow, sounds like this machine impressed you ! I look forward to seeing the side by side stitch comparison with a Bernina. I love the retro look of it. Bearing that in mind, I’d refashion a Goodwill gem into something more contemporary for me.
Hi! I would looooovvvveee a new machine! I would make a baby quilt for a friend who is expecting.
It is a beautiful machine! I would probably piece a quilt with it.
gosh, what a cool machine. i guess my first up would have to be a cambie dress or georgia dress. i’ve had them in my queue for a while but my rickety sewing machine has prevented me getting to them. thanks for the giveaway – and the fact it is worldwide!
A really nice set of features for the price point. I would make some skirts for spring/ summer.
This looks like a very nice machine for sure. I adore your blog and have been following it for quite a long time. I really like the socks that your knit, although I would never be able to do those myself. My mother was a great seamstress and quilter in her time, and she passed away late last year. We were cleaning out her sewing room, and most of it has ended up in my hands. My first project is to do a memory quilt top from her favorite fabrics she had saved, and some of her clothes that she had left us. I am currently working on a quilt that she didn’t have time to finish, and is still up on the boards in my old bedroom she converted to a quilting room. Thank you for putting up such a wonderful giveaway!
The first thing I would do with it? Just prop my Ipad on it and watch via my own wi-fi station! Then after an episode of Nashville, I might sew a small quilt top.
Thanks for the give-away.
What a pretty machine. I’d probably make something for my daughter, her birthday is in March & I love sewing up fun summer dresses for her & my other 2 daughters as well. 😀
Soo nice abd versatile machine. My first project will be nursing shirts or baby clothes. Hope I get it. Thanks!!!
Zowie, that’s a lovely machine! I would make a Mimi blouse from Tilly & the Buttons. It’s next up on my list and I have the perfect bright blue material with little black and white flowers… j9s@flash.net Thank you!
Yay! This is so fun! I would definitely sew some woven tanks. It’ll be summer soon amirite!?!?
I would start on my spring/summer wardrobe!
This looks very interesting. I have been looking for a “newer” machine which has a needle threader and a thread cutter. (I did’t see any info on the cutter.) This looks like a fabulous chance to try something more in my price range, which is under $800.
I sew on all vintage machines and most of them are straight stitch. I want to sew more knits, especially casual cotton knit floral dresses to wear in my flower booth at the Farmer’s Market. I have been wary of the computerized machines even though I love my apple products!
I was not even aware that Spiegel still existed! Back in the day, when I was a young professional, I bought all my clothes through the Spiegel catalog! Loved that catalog!
Thank you both for such an awesome giveaway! My first project would be a pair of Ginger jeans.
that looks like a pretty amazing machine!
I’m working on a wearable muslin of Hey June’s Cheyenne in view B right now, so my first project would probably be a tunic length Cheyenne!
The Spiegel is a beauty. She has a vintage look to her but is also very modern. If I won her, the first thing I’d sew is a birthday outfit for my niece who turns 1 year old on April 1st. I love her. 🙂
Hello! The machine looks amazing. I’ve been struggling with old basic sewing machine for years and finally decided to get something more versatile to improve my projects. But unfortunately, I was on a budged so still bought quite basic one. However, the baby is being used almost every day for tiny fixes or bigger projects.
If I won this machine, I would finally make a long summer dress from my lovely lightweight cream polka dot fabric that I had for three years and always was too afraid to ruin with my not so delicate machines. This Spiegel product would give me extra courage to make my dream dress. Summer is coming after all!
OMG!! I”ve been searching for machines for my two daughters, both of whom have recently expressed an interest in sewing. This looks like it would be the perfect machine for them. Both live away from home. My oldest daughter works near my office, and we sometimes go to my house at lunchtimes to sew. It would be awesome if I win this so I can give it to her!
Oops forgot to add – right now w’ere working on tops, so I’m sure that would be the first thing we would sew!
I have really been wanting to make a top notch Nightmare Moon cosplay that would really stand out from the crowd, so I would make cool looking halter top and cape combo! 🙂
I am one of those who has a small budget and would a machine like that one. I’m glad you will be using it to show what it can do.
What a great looking machine! I would sew a By Hand Sophia Dress.
What a great give-a-way! Thank you for the opportunity! My first project would be applique pillows for my grandkids.
I would make another skirt. I have a couple already cut out.
Ahh this looks perfect for my sewing/Netflix addiction! I have a pair of Tania culottes up next – I think I’d start with that! : )
Love this machine! I would make a Linden Sweatshirt for sure! My machine hates knits.
Thank you!
To be honest, if I won the machine I would spend at least a week just playing with all those stitches! Maybe make a crazy quilt to show them off.
The first thing I’d sew with this beauty would be some wild pyjama pants for my grand baby.
I want to teach my husband how to sew. He would LOVE this machine because it is so cool and because he could tune into those X-files episodes and listen to lectures and watch movies while “working” on his projects. It’s the only way I could get him to even approach a sewing machine. He would really go nuts for the alphabet ’cause he is just so into words! He says he would make tote bags as his first project. Somehow I think a superhero cape would be in there somewhere, too. If he didn’t like sewing (impossible to imagine but, nevertheless, some folks are built that way), I would donate it to the local domestic violence shelter so women and their kids could use it to repair their hearts as well as their clothes.
Great read and I was amazed to see so many stitches on the machine. So, getting ready for spring I would make myself and my girls a modified Greenstyle Bella Bubble dresses.
I would use it to make a quilt
What a beautiful machine! Im kind of a beginner sewer and I’ve been itching to sew some beautiful pillow cases for my bed and pillow covers for throw pillows on my couch. I would love to see this gorgeous machine displayed in my house. I know it would be the motivation I need to get going on those sewing projects.
I had a similar machine when my kids were growing up. I cried when it finally died, it was so sturdy. I would dearly love another one that didn’t tax my aging brain to use. Bells and whistles are just noise (er, music?), but quiet reliability would win my heart.
I would love to sew my wedding dress for my civil marriage on this beautiful machine!
Me please! This machine would help me get my sewing mojo back (haven’t done much sewing since the birth of my babies!) I have a fabulous cocoon coat I’d like to make and of course SUMMER DRESSES!
It does look very fancy – loads of added extras. I think I’d sew some jeans on it first – that should be a good way of getting to know it!
Hi, thanks for the giveaway. I would make an outfit for my newborn daughter. I am not much of a girly girl myself, jeans and tshirts here, but I am having a ball making her frilly dresses. Thanks.
I’ve got a crazy purple floral that’s been staying me down for months. I think it needs to be a dress.
I would love this machine! My project would be to make our family skate bags — over the shoulder carriers for our ice skates!
Thank you for running this contest. The first thing I’d sew would be a knitting project bag.
Awe some giveaway! If I win, I will make a beautiful linen dress with one of those lovely decorative stitches on the sleeves, hem and neck. It’s almost spring so I’m thinking about sewing crisp, lovely woven right now (sigh)
What a great machine! My first project would be ice skate holders for my family!
Since I’ve just taken up sewing again after a new-baby-imposed hiatus, I’d give those fancy embroidery stitches a try on some little-people clothing -just until my new body shape stabilizes long enough for me to sew some pants for myself!
I would definitely make my daughter’s first birthday dress with this!
Wow – this is an awesome giveaway! I’m new to sewing, and would love this machine. The first thing I would attempt to sew would be a vintage style dress
I love this! My first project would have to be finishing my best friend’s Christmas present. My machine broke in the middle of a cats-in-Christmas-hats pillowcase, of all things.
I know what my first project will be: a seamwork mesa. It is my new uniform an I made 4 of those in a week. I’m not optimistic enough to promise a Thrulow, I’m on my 7th or 8 muslin, and counting…
It does look like a cool machine. I love the gold design!
Ofer
Would love to use this machine on my next project! Just picked up Vogue 9176 yesterday, on sale no less. I have some fabulous crepe I picked up at Britex SF that would be ideal for the short jacket. You know that kind of fabric you just sit and stare at for months waiting for the “right” pattern to come along. Thanks for the giveaway!
Ginger jeans!! I bought the pattern, fabric next. This would be an awesome first project. Love the spot for your phone for tutorials AND Netflix! Well played Spiegel.
I’d love this machine for my best friend, who has a 40 year old machine. Email is vvnbaker@gmail.com.
Sounds fun! I would make a gathered skirt (knowing me).
I’d make a coat for my cat!
LOL!!! Spiegel has a very good sense of humor naming the machine 60609! Having grown up in Chicago I’m very familiar with Spiegel 🙂 So, to honor the Spiegel 60609’s roots, I think I’d sew a quilt with the Chicago skyline as my first project.
What a wonderful giveaway! I think I’d love to bust out one of my vintage patterns on that baby!
It sounds like a great sewing machine!! If I had one, I’d made a simple dress in a solid colour and then… I’d cover it with those pretty embroidery stitches! 😀
I would like to teach my grandson how to sew. Whenever I am sewing he has a 1001 questions, so the best answer is to teach him on this Spiegel sewing machine. It sounds like it could handle a 7 years old’s rough handling!
Thanks for the review! I’m working on a gray quilt, if by “working” you understand that I mean I sew a square every once in awhile when the mood hits. That would be my first project, but I’d love to try some of those fancy embroidery stitches as well. I can see lines of them in different colors along the edges of pillowcases…
I would make am 80s dress. Like the ones I remember my mom ordering from the catalog when I was a little girl. She got a lot of her workclothes from Spiegal!
Oh man! A worldwide contest! Yippee shouts the Canadian! I’ve been holding off making the Colette Anise jacket for myself – not sure if my machine can get through all those layers of wool. Thanks!
I think the first thing I’d sew is maternity activewear!!! I am not pregnant now, but hope to be. During my first pregnancy my current machine struggled with skipped stitches on wicking fabric… And I had to throw in the towel on maternity yoga tops!! Ugh! Hoping this machine would allow me to make fun maternity wear since I practice yoga 3-4 times per week….(i actually practiced yoga AFTER my water broke the day I delivered my son’s.. Because I’m crazy and denial is a powerful thing!!!) That machine looks impressive for $300!!!!
cool! My daughter would love to have a sewing machine of her own. She uses mine but it would be great if we could sew at the same time 🙂 thanks for the chance!
Wow! That’s a great give-away! That beauty would look wonderful in my new sewingroom. I have been ‘borrowing’ my mom’s pfaff for several years now. When she needs it she picks it up and then my sewingproject just have to wait.
This could be a great solution! And a great birthdaypresent 🙂
I would start with a skirt for my darling niece.
Greetings from Holland and keep up the great work on your blog.
Mariska
This machine looks so good – I’m currently on the market for a computerized sewing machine (sooooooo many pretty stitches!) and its art deco golden lines would look so perfect in my bedroom – and the support for an tablet is sheer genius. I even looked it up on Spiegel, but the shipping & handling would be a wooping $185 to France…
So let’s just hope I win this thing and get to sew my wedding dress with it! Although the first thing I’d like to make this year is a decadent silk velvet robe.
Thank you to both Spiegel and you for this giveaway – that’s very generous.
Ohh I would love to win! If I did I would see Butterick B6295. I have the pants cut and ready to go
What a pretty machine! I would happily use it to make up a purple dotted silk voile blouse that I am cutting out.
Awesome! I’d make some simple totes to get to know the machine, and then a summer dress.
The Archer shirt that I’ve got all cut out and waiting to be assembled! I’m putting it off because I’m not confident of my existing machine’s ability to to the button holes – or maybe it’s my ability that’s lacking. I’d also like to try out those embroidery stitches on a baby quilt gift I’ve got planned.
I’m on an active wear kick so I’d make some leggings and a work out top! That’s a pretty cool-looking machine 🙂
I’d make a dress I’m sure of it (I make a lot of dresses). With this machine I’d do it while binge watching something on Netflix. This machine looks like fun!
I need to sew curtains for my new house 🙂
Such a pretty machine! I’d love to sew a very sharp button-down with it (an Archer maybe?) as it requires precision… the screen thingy could be useful !
Wow, really cool! I’m excited to see you sew some projects, and I really have been keen on seeing the stitches live. Having been burned by lower price point machines before, you really get suspicious!
I would try out those stretch stitches and sew a Victory Patterns Lola, sadly on my to sew list for too long.
My son and family had a house fire. Gone is the sewing machine I purchased for my four granddaughters…..so the first project would be new pillow cases with a fancy stitch along the openings.
Oh my goodness, what a pretty machine. I would use the machine to work on my Bettine dress, which is currently in the wearable muslin stage.
now that does look like a lovely machine. Got to love a bit of Gold now and then…
Hmm first project, it would be some clothing, possibly a Renfrew or some more underwear…
Hmm…first project…baby blanket for my baby due in April, then some skirts for my older daughter.
I would make a dress for my 5 year old grand daughter’s birthday using a beautiful voile fabric with Unicorn’s on it that I just ordered from Hawthorne Threads.
I think I will use I Japanese pattern with puff sleeves and a very flowing skirt and Empire waist. I love that style and my grand-daughter loves clothes.
This machine sounds amazing for the price and I am a vintage Bernina person.
I love all those stitch options! I would sew a moto jacket.
The first thing I’d sew would probably be a reversible By Hand London Anna dress. Apparently all of my family members decided to get married this year, so I’m thinking the only way to go is a maxi-length Anna and I have some magenta and black double gauze that would be perfect. Plus, if it’s reversible then I can wear it multiple times and no one will know.
I’ve always considered my love of sewing to be a beautiful gift. I want to pass that love along to my granddaughter and teach her to sew on this wonderful machine. Then hopefully, when she swoons over all its possibilities, pass it along to her, to use and cherish as her “first” machine. And….I will let her choose the first project she’d like to sew with it!
That’s lovely… It think I would try a quilt with embroidery to show off the lovely stitches!
Thanks for the giveaway
i think i would have to make the goldstream peacoat i have been promising my husband for ages but have been fearful of starting – now this might be a bit of an incentive.
Great giveaway! The first thing I would sew would be a summer dress out of some wax fabric I’ve been saving.
I am planning some slipcovers for my living room chairs. Would love a new machine to tackle them.
I’ve heard nice reviews about this machine. My first project would be a pair of pants 🙂
I would make a new black miniskirt.
Oh, my – I’ve been looking for a lower end machine to get my daughter started with. This looks like it would be great. Pillows and napkins with straight lines would be up first 🙂
Omg!!! 💟 with a spiegel sewing machine I want sew my first bra, my first tailored pants, my first jeans and my first coco chanel jacket 😄😄😄 84sehc@gmail.com or spop_84@hotmail.com.
Holy cow, that’s a beautiful machine with a lot of extras, especially for that price! If I won it I’d start sewing one of my vintage 1950’s dress patterns that I’m planning on sewing up this year.
Fun! I’d totally make a new pair of Ginger jeans 🙂 IYou have my email lady!
I need another machine like I need a hole in the head, but I love that you can apparently embroider letters with this – LOVE THAT!
And I totally forgot to say what I’d make – probably a new dress for the spring-like weather we’re having here in CA!
I would sew some adorable baby onesies for my newborn son. I am on maternity leave and have some extra time on my hands and I am also in the maker for a new machine
I was just shopping for sewing machines and saw some as high as 8k.
I would keep trying to make my husband a completely perfect dress shirt with the new machine. I’m not sure my current machine can make “perfect.”
Awesome giveaway! My first project would probably be new curtains or pillows. 🙂
I would finally make the red wool vest I have promised my husband for three years now 🙂
Ginger jeans for me! Hopefully this machine can produce some top-notch top stitching. Maybe I’ll even get fancy and do some embroidery on the back pockets- hmmm….
Whoops! Submitted without my email… Sorry
I think I’d put his machine to a trial by fire and sew some jeans with a thicker denim I have laying around. It looks so fancy!
I’ve been wanting to make a leather jacket for the longest time but my poor old machine just doesn’t have the penetration (stop sniggering)
I would make a pair of Sewaholic Thurlows since I seriously need new pants.
I would probably start with something simple, like a skirt, to get used to the machine.
Not entering. Just wanted to say what a good review. When this was first on the market a friend and I were emailing back and forth because we just didn’t get it.
I am a very, very rusty intermediate level sewer. I am also a mom now, which is a contrast to the last phase in my life when I sewed a lot (high school, which is also where I learned from a wonderful teacher.)
While I can’t wait to start sewing clothing for myself ASAP, realistically, I would ease myself back into things by making much easier projects at first. I’m thinking I would like to make some really cute bunting/flag things for my kids elementary school.
I am really excited about this machine. I read about it on another blog just before Christmas. And truthfully, if I don’t win this from you, I’m going to buy it for myself anyway. Talk about beauty on a budget!
Thank you to you, Walmart and Spiegel for this contest! And I really appreciate that you will continue to provide information/tutorials once the contest is over. I will be on the lookout for them, with my finger poised over the, “save” button!
Love the look of this machine! I have several projects I have been planning to get to after the current things I just started. Probably would be some mending projects and a pair of jeans are up next.
would like to sew a new pj, cause it`s getting real cold here these days.
bye from germany, annette
Oh my, she is so pretty! I would sew a pair of running tights. While watching Netflix!
I would sew a bag just to see what that baby can do!
I’d put it to the test sewing some jeans. I have doubts on my Janome’s ability to go over those thick thick seams. mahlica(at)gmail.com
Oh man! I would sew something to make use of all those fancy embroidery stitches, since my simple Singer has no such thing!
My first project would be a lovely wool and velvet cape with a tiny little shawl collar.
Wahoo!
My machine is usually set up for quilting, so I’d love to have a dedicated apparel-sewing machine! Been wanting to make a Grainline Linden sweatshirt.
How exciting! I would work on my first coat ever!!! I have my Clare coat pattern already printed, the fabric is ready for cutting, all the miscellaneous bits and bob are collected. Now I just need a new sewing machine 😉 and courage to tackle this project. And who knows… I may have it ready before end of winter.
The first project that I would complete would be something for my baby girl due in April!
The first thing I would sew is a grain line studio archer button up shirt! Taking a video of the top stitching would we really satisfying! Haha!
Awesome giveaway! I would sew up the Sewaholic Nicola dress. That pattern has been languishing in my stash for far too long.
Oh my goodness! I can think of about one hundred different things that I would love to sew, but the first would have to be a bunting for my brand new baby!
Yay! I’d sew a dress!
Ooohhh, love to get this! Awesome giveaway😍
I love how chic and sleek the gold and white looks! I also like the wide base – which makes me think this would be a good motivator to start the quilt I want to make for my bed (finally) – I think that would be my first project if I were lucky enough to win! 🙂
I think I would start with a dress by Colette Patterns. I am still new to sewing and I am trying to focus on creating wardrobe basics that I can wear everyday. Maybe someday I’ll be free of RTW clothes!
Without doubt, I would be making a Sewaholic Davie. I’ve made it before, but have some bicycle-print fabric that I think would look amazing as a Davie. The only problem would be pattern matching on such a narrow print – that’s why I think the camera would be so helpful to get me lining everything up correctly.
Looking to start sewing again now that my baby is out of the house (OK he’s 22 but still my baby) and would love to do some Roman shades for my kitchen.
The character of Daisy Grant (played by Patina Miller) on “Madam Secretary” has some occasional great wardrobe items. So I would: 1) get inspiration while watching episodes using the tablet holder; then 2) whip up a Daisy-style garment.
My first project would be a light wool cape for spring.
My first project would be a Cinema dress, by Lisette. It’s been in my lineup for at least six months, and I have fabric for three versions already!
This is very exciting! I think I’d make some new blouses and button-down shirts for work!
I have a very young friend who really wants to sew but has no machine. This would be ideal!
I would probably try to finally sew some ginger jeans (I have the fabric all cut and ready after a shorts muslin but need the courage to do it all, especially with my machines tension issues: ) )
Four Charlotte skirts from By Hand London. One for each season!
My first project would be a spring military jacket, I can never have enough of those.
The skies the limit with a gold machine, might even try jeans
First I want to say that I really enjoy your blog. I find so much inspiration seeing the things that you have sewn. Thank you for taking the time to blog. I am sewing with the machine that my parents bought me when I was 16 (about 40 years ago) I recently realized that the newer machines have all sorts of features that my White machine does not have. I have been wanting to buy a new machine to upgrade but can’t seem to justify the cost right now. This machine would be a great move into a machine with more options, stitches and so many things to explore. I would make myself a button down to try out the button hole feature and then play around with all the decorative stitches that my machine does not have. Thanks again for your blog and for the opportunity to put my name in for a chance at the Spiegel machine.
I really enjoyed your review. My first garment sewn on such a beauty would be something with lots o’ buttonholes like a shirt dress.
How exciting! I have my heart set on sewing the Closet Case Files Clare Coat, which will my first venture into coat-making! (redlocks81@gmail.com)
What an amazing giveaway – and open worldwide!! If I won, the first thing I’d sew would be a bra, my janome cannot do zigZag stitches very well – and cannot cope at all with plush elastic and power mesh. It drives me crazy!! Thanks for the giveaway!!
annie dot hnz at gmail dot com
Cute machine! I would make a summer dress first to try out the machine and then gift it to my daughter. She is just starting to sew and is using my 30 year old very basic janome.
Ooooo I’m officially wooed!! It looks great!!
I’ve been having a problem with my machine but I can’t afford a new one on account of a baby due in less than 5 weeks! I had plans for baby clothes and quilt that unfortunately isn’t happening.
So fingers and toes crossed 🙂
I have a ton of beautiful summer-weight fabric that I need to turn into dresses . .I would love to get started on those, while watching tons of Parks and Rec.
My first project would be another attempt to perfect a pants pattern.
Jeans, and use one of those fun stitches on the pockets!
Great giveaway! I’d sew a Gabriola skirt!
Super cute machine, and bitchin’ giveaway! Thanks a heap to you and Speigel!! Overalls. I have an overall overalls obsession lately. I have a ton of plaid-y/stripe-y suiting material… it makes a more formal ‘all. 😉 They’re cozy, cute, and perfect to wear whilst sewing.
I would make more Dashikis! I just learned how to make one by piecing different patterns. Now that I have a formula to male one, I’m ready to roll! Oh. I’ve been only sewing for a month. LOL. Self taught. Videos are a wonderful thing!
Looks a lovely machine. Think it would be a summer dress for me first
Ginger jeans! I’ve made my first pair and want to make more…preferably as the winner of the Spiegel! 😊 Thanks for the opportunity.
Looks amazing. Love it😍😍😍. I would finally start sewing my coat. It’s thick fury material. I’m sure this maschine is a winner so it would be a pleasure to work with it. Many thanks
New pjs for me me me – I made them for my three kids for Christmas, so now it’s my turn.
Sweet! The first thing I would make is a denim skirt for my granddaughter with embroidery around the hem. Love my granddaughters! Thanks
I am impressed with the Spiegel 60609. I think the first thing I will make is one of the Marcy Tilton patterns I have stashed for Spring.
Boulder holder first project for sure!
Thanks for the giveaway. I’d make my first patchwork quilt for a new family arrival (I’m usually a selfish sewer and only sew for me).
I too would sew Ginger Jeans using my Marcy Tilton blue paisley stretch denim, upon which
I cast admiring glances in the direction of my stash, but am too afraid to cut into! How silly of me. Thank you for an amazing giveaway!
Oh man I would totally make some fancy button ups with that sucker. Mmm automatic button holer.
This is the first machine I’ve seen that has a mobile phone holder, I love it! I would start by making my first ever Victoria blazer by By Hand London, I’ve just ordered the pattern and can’t wait to start. My email is cararbolkeax@hotmail.co.uk
Wow a!
Great giveaway! Like you I love a free machine. My first project would be some summer tops.
Wohoo! I would definitely sew a batwing shirt for myself. I already have the fabric but I’m missing a sewing machine. I really hope I will win 😄
I love the shelf for a mobile device – I’m always sewing with instructions on my iPad. My first project would be a pair of Gingers to see how this bad boy does on denim!
The first thing I’d sew? I’ve a to do list as long as my arm. I’d love to sew my daughters matching outfits as I’ve not done that yet, the youngest is a baby! I have an Oliver and S pattern ready. I’d also like to sew something for me… Belladone dress? Orla top? Moji trousers? I need to focus!
I would sew up a new dress for my summer vacation!
So great to see a quality lower budget machine!! No idea what is sew first… Maybe another Archer Button Up 😊
I’ve had some knit tops waiting and waiting to be sewn. I’d make those first!
What a stunning looking machine – love the gold accents. I’d sew some new project bags for my knitting!
Such a good review! Thank you. I am looking to get a new machine after having mine since I was 16 ( 11 years 😬 ) If given the chance to win this beauty of a machine the first thing I would make would be my black and turquoise mermaid scale swimsuit. I am off to Canada for the first time this year to see my bro and I need me a snazzy swimsuit. 😊
I would finish a quilt that I started eight years ago, but abandoned in frustration at the shortcomings of my current cheap sewing machine.
What a great looking machine. I would make a lingerie set. I’m thinking a Watson bra and panties.
What a great giveaway! I don’t have decorative stitches on my machine, so I would love to use those embroidery stitches to jazz up the edges of the Sewaholic Granville that I have planned.
Very impressed by this machine! The first project I would make would be an ikat Morris blazer!! That’s the next baby on my to-do list!
Thanks for the great giveaway!
Jeans, absolutely!
Oh it’s so pretty!
I’d sew a work dress in the turquoise tweed that I’ve had stashed for far too long.
A friend loaned me some 1970’s cape patterns so my first go on this lovely machine would be whipping up one of those! I’ve been sewing on my trusty thrift store machine for the past few years so this machine would be an awesome addition!
My first project would be a mini skirt in some gorgeous red and blue tartan fabric I’ve been saving. I’ve been very careful not to look at new sewing machines in case I got tempted so I didn’t even know a sewing machine could be internet connected!
My current machine hates jersey/knit fabrics so I’d sew the Coco pattern by Tilly and the Buttons minus the annoying skipped stitches! The machine looks beautiful 😊
First project in the que would be silk pillowcases!
Ooh! My first project would be to finish some jewelry bags I owe family from Christmas two years ago. I made and distributed the makeup bags, and told people the matching jewelry bags were coming… and then my sewing machine started to die. Oops. (Currently can’t even sew a straight line, and it’s not worth repairing. Need a new one.)
Oops, WordPress account was being weird. This goes with the comment form esvoss above. Just in case I win, the email address is attached to this comment!
Oh, yes! I’m looking into getting a new machine because my vintage Kenmore is having problems that are not resolved with cleaning and tune-up. My first project would be a linen Bellatrix blazer, because it’s been on my list but I’m afraid of my machine messing up something so lovely.
Dear Lladybird 🙂 Because my sewing machine is serious crap (seriously… while I sew it litteraly jumps around on the table ^^) I would be SO happy to win this BEAUTIFUL sewing machine. The first project I would sew on it, would be a dress for an upcoming confirmation of my cousin. 🙂 I would use some royal blue fabric and vintage lace I inherited from my great grandma (who was a seemstress). 🙂
Love, Lena 🙂
Thanks for hosting this giveaway! The first thing I’d sew is a sleeveless top, maybe with some of those embroidery stitches on the trim.
I would use this machine to start and finish the minoru jacket; my current machine I don’t believe would be able to handle this project. Thanks for this.
Wowow!!! This machine sounds amazing!! I’ve had my machine for over 10 years and desperately need a new one as its very very basic!! Id be so excited by the twin needle and it would be perfect for sewing up a pair of ginger jeans for spring. I would love this so much. Thanks for such a fab giveaway and for such a fab blog always full of ideas 😀 xx
The first thing I’d see would be a shirtdress (Colette Hawthorn most likely) to make use of the buttonhole stitches. I love my vintage machine so much but four step buttonholes are a pain!
Giveaway! Yes! This machine looks gorgeous!
I would make Papercut’s Ooh La Leggings. I have the pattern, but my old elna just doesn’t cut it when sewing with knits, so I have been waiting for a new machine.
Some new shirts and jackets for the office!!
Oh! I’m a Bernina gal, too, but my trusty workhorse has no embroidery stitches. I saw the other day someone posted a shirtdress on which she’d embroidered the collar instead of top stitching it. That’d be my first inspiration!
Wow, that looks like a great starter machine. I would love to win it, the first thing I would sew is a calls bomber jacket….thanks!
What a nice machine and a definite upgrade over mine that merely does straight stitch and zigzag! I may very well have to tackle some Thurlow trousers were I to win!
I would love to win a sturdy swing machine. My machine was stolen. I want to sew a shirt.
This is so exciting-I’d make an outfit for my friends’ little girls first birthday, it would be my first attempt at kids clothes!
Wow, what an awesome giveaway! I know exactly what you mean with not having the money for those fancy sewing machines. I’m still sewing on my grandma’s old sewing machine 😉 On a new machine I would probably sew a lot of Plaintains because my current machine doesn’t like knits and twin needles…
Oh my gosh! This would be so great! My bernina is on its last legs and I need a new machine while I save up for a new one! Hm…I would make…either a new pair of flared ginger jeans or a linen romper. Probably both. At the same time. Haha.
Wow, that does look like a nice machine! I’m impressed that that the outside is made of metal. What about the gears inside? Just wondrin’. Also neat that you can sew things like sleeves on it.
What would be the first thing I’d sew? Given all those features, I’d love to sew a button-down shirt! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
So pretty! I would probably try out anything that’s knit since my featherweight doesn’t do well with them. Maybe some new leggings!
My first project would probably be a rayon challis Marthe top from Republique du Chiffon or maybe a Grainline Alder but shortened to a blouse. I need some new, pretty tops to wear to work! Thank you for the giveaway 🙂
I’ve got a stack of fabric my dog would love me to turn into beds for him!
Wow, Spiegal… who would have guessed?! Your review of the machine and excitement about partnering with them adds a lot of credibility to the quality of the 60609. Would love to try it out for myself by making a quilt for my newest grandbaby due in September!
What a beautiful machine! Thank you kindly for the review!
I would finish up the picnic quilt that I’m making for all of my friends to enjoy when we picnic during the cherry blossom festival in DC. The machine could help add some extra flair to the quilting part. 🙂
Ah, that would make watching Van Halen videos on YouTube so much easier. (Channeling David Lee Roth is suddenly vital to my sewing. Surprised me, too.) Want.
I’d use it to sew up all the lingerie I’ve got lined up! Boylston, Watson , and Marlbourough along with some vintage panty patterns and nighties! 😉
I love the phone holder, I Netflix all the time while sewing!! What a generous giveaway, I’d love to give this a go as I am pretty much a vintage Bernina fan.

Oh my – what a gorgeous machine – fingers crossed!!
Wow! What a great looking machine! I love the iPhone holder as I listen to podcasts as I sew and my machine makes lots of noise so I need it close and that’s just perfect! I think I would finally sew the Seamwork Akita pattern first. I’ve been holding onto the fabric and pattern for too long!
Wow! What a fantastic giveaway. I’d make a pencil case for my daughter – a good way for me to practice sewing a zip.
Wow! I would sew an outfit for my new grandson.
Ooh, what a nice looking machine! My focus right now is making more jeans so I’d definitely get this set up with topstitching thread and get cranking!
Oh, gosh… It could be probabily the best Valentine Gift ever!
However, I’ll sew for sure an evening gown, because my best-male-friend, which I knew since I was 2, is going to marry my classmate (yes, I was the Cupid who made them know and fall in love!).
Yay, everybody coming out of the woodwork — including me! 🙂 Honestly, the first thing I would do is download a bunch of stitches from the Play store, and each and every one across a piece of sturdy canvas, just for fun. Then I’d sew the embellushed canvas into a simple tote bag. Because I love experimenting and trying out all the options.
OOOOOOH! This machine is SO pretty! The first thing Id whip up on that bad boy is a Varsity Jacket with a bunch of words embroidered on it!!!! Lol! 😜👍🏼⚡️🏆🎈
Ahlix@yahoo.com
What a fantastic giveaway! I think I’d us the machine and its included quilting guides to make up a quilted jacket. here’s hoping!
I’m teaching my niece and her daughters to sew. We are working on doll clothes and aprons, the girls are also interested in learning to cook. My niece would like to make a knit top for herself and then some for the girls. I can imagine the hoots and hollers if I win! Two of us could be sewing at the same time!
My first baby is due on my birthday–July 23. I’m not putting any baby clothes on our registry because my goal is to spend $0 on clothes for the entire first year! Instead, I want to make baby’s frocks and leggings and onesies and all from old clothing and fabric.
If I’m going to make my goal, I better get started soon! Right now I have a very basic machine and sure would love an upgrade now that I’m sure sewing is the thing for me!
What a fantastic giveaway! If I won this, the first thing I’d sew would probably be a sundress for my niece (I promised my sister-in-law a handmade dress for her baby if she knit me fingerless gloves) followed by a sundress for myself.
Ooh I would love to win this! I’ve got a Deer and Doe Airelle blouse cut out and ready to sew, so I would use this to whip that up!
I tried and failed to make a grainline archer out of some rayon voile. I’d love to try again on this machine!
Wow, sewing technology has come so far. I love my darling Bernina, but he! Free sewing machine that has a WiFi Capabilities? Awesome! The first thing I would sew would be a classic, fitted button-down shirt. Thank you for a great opportunity!
I’d do Ginger Jeans – and use that stitch cam to get the fly topstitching curve just right 🙂
It’s so pretty!! 😻 The first thing I would sew is a new flowy maxi dress for myself, because I feel like I’m always sewing things for other people! I want to start working on my own wardrobe!
I would like to sew spring dresses for our local children at the homeless shelter. There’s nothing like a pretty dress on a little girl, and they won’t have that chance otherwise. (I can see them dancing around and twirling the skirts in my mind 🙂 I’ve never won a giveaway before, maybe this will be my lucky day! Thank you for making this opportunity available to us. Cheers, Jen
I’d love to see a few shots from the stitch cam. It’s impressive that such an affordable machine could be so sturdy. I’ve cut my teeth on an intro Brother model, which has held up for several years now, but it’s so flimsy feeling!
So many entries as expected, I would sew silver jeans for the test drive and see how it behaives with topsticthing thread.
I would make one of the new retro butterick dress patterns I just got. That machine looks amazing. Thanks for doing this giveaway!
Thank you for the giveaway! The first project I will make on the Spiegeleisen will be a new Lady Skater dress!
Thanks for the great review.
Mary
Yippee! Does anyone ever turn down a free sewing machine 😉 I have a skirt I would like to sew up – I love that this machine comes with a zipper foot, saves me from needing to go to my finicky machine that is the only machine I have with a zipper foot. Wow, maybe I should just buy a zipper foot for my workhorse instead of being so cheap… 🙂
What a fabulous machine! The fist thing I would make would be something that I could wear on an interview. That way if someone commented on my outfit I could say I made it and that would be a plus : ). Since I’m laid off I have a lot of time on my hands so I can finally make all those things I didn’t have the time for. Like everyone else – I’ve got the ginger jeans pattern.
Even tho it’s 28 degrees today, I’m thinking about my next bathing suit. That’s the first thing I would make!
I would start creating myself a spring wardrobe
The first thing I’d sew would probably be a home dec project. A duvet cover or curtains. I’m moving to a new bigger house next week, so those types of projects will be taking over my garment sewing time for a while!
Oooh! Love that white and gold styling.
I just went a little crazy on the 2016 Nani Iro collection, so my first project would probably be a nice floaty dress in some double gauze.
I’m learning to sew, and have started with skirts. If I was lucky enough to win I think a celebration with my first shirt would be in order!
Love the gold! I would love to try my hand at jeans!
Nice looking machine. I love the shelf for my phone or tablet. If I were to win this my first project would probably be a bra.
I’d sew anything with buttonholes. As much as I love my work horse Bernina, it makes some pretty average buttonholes.
Wow, this has some nice features! I would sew layettes for my soon to be born granddaughters.
I’d love to say that my first project would be something very fancy and beautiful, but since I’d be learning the machine it’d probably just be a pair of plain-Jane underwear 🙂 Quick, easy and functional.
My first project would have to be a corset… I made one on my current machine, a Viking 500 and sewed my finger… maybe the Spiegel 60609 will be a tad bit nicer to me…
I would sew myself some ginger jeans and some pieces for spring.
Love your blog and this giveaway! I would start on Spring tunics if I win!
I would love my own sewing machine! At the moment I uses my moms. 9 chances out of 10 I would make a summer dress, they are my favourite thing to make.
Honestly – I bought some soft stretch denim and another woven plaid to try my hand at a pair or two of slacks. (Have to call them slacks because it sounds a bit more elegant;) OR…Simplicity 1080…so many projects so little time!
The first project(s) I would use the Speigel for is to sew a Grainline Tiny Pocket Tank and Stowe bag with my 13 year old niece who is just learning to sew. It looks like the perfect machine for her to use as we work side by side. Love the phone shelf!
I have had the Lisette Portfolio dress/tunic for a while. I would love to make it in linen & use some of the decorative stitches on the neck, and the sleeve & bottom hems!
This is amazing! If I won this machine I would teach my little niece to sew her first item; a personalised tote bag. The needle camera function would be awesome to show her how the stitches are sewn because she always frightens me by getting too close to the needle “to get a better look”. This machine would be a wonderful tool to nurture her interest in sewing
What a fab-looking and sounding machine! Something like this is looong overdue in the sewing world. I have about a million things in my ufo pile, but finishing the kids beanbags would be project #1 🙂
Since my current machine doesn’t have any fancy, decorative stitches I would want my first project to allow me to experiment with those. Maybe I would make a cute new dress for my daughter or some new throw pillow covers.
Good timing my machine is dying. 🙂 I been looking for a good used machine in thrift stores. I do like the old vintage machines, but would be nice to win and new sewing machine. And this Spiegel looks and sounds amazing. I’m not sure what the first thing I would sew on it, as I love to sew everything…Clothing, crafts, furniture covers, purses/bags…and more. I’m really into making dolls, and I may start making them to help use out.
Good luck everyone!
I would LOVE this! My husband and I are renovating a farm house and there are so many sewing projects on the horizon. First and foremost on the list is proper window treatments! (Something simple, but instant gratification!).
Please, pretty please, let me sew a pretty Caroline party dress (from Mouse House Creations) on this machine for my beautiful granddaughter’s 2nd birthday!
I used to order from Spiegel all the time. Love the look and your comments about the machine. I would try to make my first jeans. Wish I could sew like you!
I would see my first archer!!
I would probably make another pair of jeans on it and add some of the fancy stitches to the pockets. I’ve never used a computerized machine (aside from in a sewing store) and the different stitches always intrigue me.
I have heard RAVE reviews about this machine. Would LOVE to tackle my Nettie dress on this machine!
That gold/white gets me everytime lol it’s so pretty!
My first project would be a spring dress with decorative stitches on the hem and neckline
This would be a huge upgrade from my hand-me-down Singer Touch n Sew from 1970-something! The first thing I would make would be some cute pjs for summer.
Oh this is fortuitous! I’ve been thinking how nice it would be to have a second machine to my beloved Pfaff, but I can’t justify the cost of a nice machine when it’s just for convenience and not because I neeeed one. I’d totally set this up my bedroom and whip up some cute bags I’ve had my eye on.
Wow, what an AMAZING giveaway. Thanks. My email is Alexa.c.duff@gmail.com
It is very lovely to look at! I think I’d finally tackle that bra I’ve been meaning to sew. I saw on Madalynne’s blog that she used them for her bra making class.
First project?! A quilt! I know, I know. It’s going to be difficult to wear in public, but I think I could pull it off. I’m completely in love with the Missouri Star Quilt Company!
I have been slowly gathering all the things I need to make my first me-made denim trousers with the Thurlow pattern, I’d love to have something better than my poor little $200 singer from highschool!
OH wow, WHAT a gorgeous machine. I think I’d have a Granville blouse skipping to the top of my sewing queue as the hypothetical inaugural project on this baby.
Thanks for all of the insight on this machine! If I won a Spiegel 60609, the first project I’d make with it would be Ginger jeans, pink denim. 🙂
Wow it’s such a beaut! I’ve never heard of Spiegel before, will definitely check them out now!! I think I’d make my first cambie on it!! My email address is craftysooze (at) gmail (dot) com
I am dying to make a Clare Coat. I have the wool and I better get on it since its 71 degrees today!
Seems like a lovely machine! I work on an older (read: 20 yrs at least), non-computerized machine, from Huskqvarna, and am happy with it. But, then again, I’ve never used a more modern machine. My first project would be part of building my me-made spring/summer wardrobe – so it would be a dress. The Amelia dress from Green Bee or another Sureau from Deer and Doe. Love your blog, you are an inspiration! :0)
Pretty! I’d sew Sew Over It’s Ultimate Pencil Skirt!
I am have been holding on to some pink poodle fabric to make some Fifi pajamas and a matching lounge robe. I would love to win this beauty!
Would definitely run up another pair of Calvin Kleins from Vogue 2442 – itching to give some of those embroidery stitches a go for the pockets and the topstitching!
Lovely machine! I’d sew a Tilly and the Buttons dress!
This is so exciting! I was the lucky winner of Madalynne’s Spiegel giveaway, and I’m eager to see what you think of the machine. I’ve barely tried mine out, as I’ve been in the middle of a few projects when I received the new machine, and wanted to continue on my current Singer to wrap things up, but I’m planning to set aside some time to acquaint myself. It’s such a pretty machine! I’m looking forward to seeing more projects you make with it, and I’ll try to post a review soon, too. 🙂
Nice machine! As the supply officer for our local Sea Cadet unit I would use the machine to alter cadet uniforms and sew patches. Our cadets (and their parents) would be most appreciative:)
I would work on some sweet little girl dresses for my daughter!
My first project would absolutely be a pretty Delphine skirt for work. But my second project would be ludicrous faux leather leggings that I would attempt to add quilted knee patches to, because I can only do sensible grown up for very short bursts.
How cool! I have a couple of vintage straight stitch machines that are great for quilts and simple woven garments, but I’d love something with more stitch options as well as buttonhole capability so I can start sewing more garments. I’d probably sew something simple on this at first like a sorbetto tank just to get a feel for it.
My birthday is the 14th, so winning this would be an amazing gift! 😀
My plans would be to sew some Jamie Jeans. I’ve been sitting on the pattern for almost a year now. Wouldn’t a new sewing machine be the perfect reason to try a new pattern?
First run would be a little girl’s blue wool winter coat. :0)
My first project would be a dress for the tail end of summer with some cool embroidery around the skirt or on the bodice.
I’ve been interested in this machine since it was featured on Madalynne’s blog- I’ve been really into the idea of sewing lingerie between her stuff and your recent bra sewing, so I’d probably make my first Watson bra as a first project!
Leggings! I’ve been wanting to sew some for my daughters for a while now but have been afraid my machine will just eat the fabric and be spiteful and bad tempered as always. Also I do a lot of sewing from tutorials so how cool would it be to have it right on the machine.
I would make a baby nappy bag for my new grandchild, due in July, then probable give the machine to my daughter if I won it.
Wow, so excited. I would make a pair of pants I’ve been planning for a while. It would be my inspiration.
My brother is just not interested in having proper tension or do twin needle without messing up. It makes me sad. I’ve been looking for a replacement and this might just fit the bill.
I think my first project on a new machine would have to be a nautical blazer for me. I’ve had the fabric stashed away for ages, and I’ve finally reached my target weight so it’s time to stop the diet and sew. Time to tackle a bit of speed-tailoring. I’d love to win a fancy machine like this!
This might be my next machine. My brother is just such a pain!
I’ve been doing “learn to sew” sessions at my house. One of my sewing friends is talented, super-enthusiastic, and dying for a sewing machine of her own. I would love to be able to give her one!
Oh My!!! pretty and functional?! sounds awesome! I’d make a Wren dress… been procrastinating on that for too long 🙂 many thanks!
Awesome, thanks for the giveaway! I would make a slip with horded silk. My machine chomps lightweight fabrics.
What a great giveaway!!! I want to sew a coat.
I’d finish my woolen skirt that’s been in progress for months now. My poor Brother is on it’s last legs and my vintage Singer can only make stitches about 1/4″ wide.
I would see a summer dress with some embroidery on the bodice or skirt.
I’d probably start with something from Lotta’s new book! Acadialee@gmail.com
wow! what a generous giveaway! Thank you for hosing! I would sew all of the knits: t shirts, underwear, leggings! My current stretch stitch situation is not good.
*hosting
Thanks for the giveaway. I am just getting back to sewing after 5 year hiatus 😦 I would start simple with a totebag.
New Sure Fit Designs dresses!
Awesome giveaway! I’d start with a bang and sew my first pair of Ginger Jeans!
I’m designing my own wedding dress! This upgrade from my hobby machine would be amazing!!! I love all those embroidery stitches. Thanks for such an awesome giveaway!
I woild make pajama pants, probably from the Closet Case Files Carolyn pattern.
I would sew a white denim summer dress! White clothes have become a need for me…
That is a lovely looking machine and thanks for your review. I would make a coco t-shirt ready for spring.
It’s very pretty! And I can’t believe the price for all those computerised features and pretty stitches! I’d use it a a second machine for topstitching when making jeans.
katie@whatkatiedoes.net
Wow, I so appreciate the world-wide bit, as I am in Canada. I would love to play around with th embroidery stitches, and enjoy the web connectivity. Amazing machine, good on Speigel for creating such an innovative product at such a great price point. I would make my summer tunic tops as a first project. Thank you, and Speigel for the giveaway!
oh – so much to choose from – I would probably set this up in my dining area so I could work whenever I wanted and work on the Project Linus quilts I need to finish,
Holy Cow, It’s a long way to the bottom….. I would love to have this machine at the side of my current machine – I would use it for basting and top stitching so that I wouldn’t have to change my threads all the time. I would start with another Camas blouse. hkdawson @ gmail . com
I would like to try to make a Cashmerette Appleton wrap dress.
A very very nice sewing machine.
That is my first time on your blog and i sure come back !
Very very nice.
The first thing I would make is tailored jacket. I have been teaching my niece how to sew. We will have our own side by side sew along.
Yes, please, I need a machine right now! I’ve been using my mom’s lovely, old Pfaff, but she just reclaimed it to get back into quilting. The first thing I would sew is my next project, a wearable muslin of the BHL Kim bodice. I’ll pair it with my Hollyburn skirt as a two-piece setacular. Thanks!!!!
First quilt! Has to be weight of love by Libs Elliot – keeping it all valentines
That is indeed a pretty machine! I can ALWAYS use another machine. I especially like ones that have extra fancy stitches. One thing my Bernina 350PE does not have is a 3 step zig zag. If this one has a 3 step zig zag then I’d be sure to give it a go for some lingerie sewing. I’m thinking Watson and some undies.
Almost a year ago, I bought a late 70’s small double wide mobile home and I’ve been working on remodeling/fixing it up since. One thing I really, really need is window coverings and I’ve been eyeing roller blinds and roman shades — particularly roman shades (love them!). I’m on the hunt for fabrics (if you know of any sites that would be good, please share!) and would use this machine to start on my window projects. I’m bookmarking this machine so hopefully I can go see one in person. Thanks and hope your winter is not too wintry 🙂
bethnegrey@gmail.com
That Spiegel desperately wants to make me a costume for my first aerial silks photoshoot!
First project: Much need nightgowns for my growing girls. To be honest, I would probably give this machine to my 8 year old. She has been hankering for her own sewing machine- and she would love the camera and stitches available.
I am so glad you posted about this machine! I have recently been on the look out for a budget friendly sewing machine since recent circumstances have left me without one. I’m seriously looking into the Singer 9906, but this looks like it might be a decent alternative. Thank you for offering this giveaway, Lauren!
Considering I sew with a $59 Black Friday special Singer I would love to have a machine like this! First thing I would sew? Probably a summer dress.
Lauren, thanks so much for this detailed review. I’m a newer sewist and really benefit from you and other experienced bloggers who take the time to walk through details.
If I won this machine, I’d use it to make my suit for a spring wedding where I’ll be the groomsman for one of my best friends for nearly two decades. This suit will be a lot of first for me — first time using truly high-end materials (Italian suiting wool, mmmmmm), first involved tailoring project, first time sewing for an event with a hard deadline. My inability to find a suit with an androgynous dapper style and anywhere near enough boob room was one of the things that led me to learn to sew in the first place. If I can do this justice, it’ll be one of the first times I’ve gotten to go to a formal event looking the way I look to myself in my mind. I’m excited and also a bit terrified, and nearly all of my sewing for the next four months will be a series of carefully planned projects to develop through the skills I’ll need to do it justice.
Email: jakubowiczish (at) gmail.
On such a marvelous machine as the Spiegel, my first project would be Gertie’s slip and panties, Butterick 6031. My current machine does not have adjustable presser foot pressure. This makes sewing jersey knits, slinky knits and lace near impossible.
I think that Spiegel wants to make my two year old granddaughter a sweet summer dress!
I would love to have this machine. The first thing I would make is matching skirts for my Granddaughters using some of those fancy stitches.
Impressive machine–who would have thought Speigel? I would sew a tunic top from Sew Serendipity with some fabric I purchased on Kauai this past fall. mary.howard@jc28.org
Wow, that looks like such a good machine! My next big project is my wedding dress so I think I’d go for that first – looks a bit more reliable than my current machine.
I think I would use it to start the quilt I keep intending to make my mother!
myohsewvintagelife@gmail.com
Gosh — I’m amazed at all the high-tech aspects! Downloading stitches on iTunes? A USB port? A WiFi channel and a stitch cam? What the what??? My head would explode — but in a good way. I think back to the first machine I bought, which was an “inexpensive” beginner’s machine (I couldn’t believe the cost), and it was nothing like this. Look at what 20 years of technological development will do. I’d love to have this machine. I think my first project would be fabric roses for my Mom. I saw this pattern and it looks doable (I’m not that great at sewing); plus my Dad is allergic to roses so my Mom never receives roses. Thanks for the review.
Love the color of this machine! I’d use it for my first attempt at sewing some underwear – some fancy knickers I think! 🙂
I’ve been wanting to try my hand on sewing jeans! With Spiegel’s metal body, I think it would handle jean sewing. And the holder for a phone would make following the Ginger sew-a-along very convenient! Thanks for the Spiegel 60609 review and opportunity to get a new machine!
I’m impressed that they are so forward thinking, by integrating wifi and a USB port. Some of the older, standard manufacturers should sit up and take notice, because I would love something like that. I guess the first thing I would sew on the Spiegel would be a shirt I started working on last year … I mean, it’s a super simple thing, so why haven’t I finished it? Probably because my other machine is my quilting baby. I just have a hard time setting it up for clothing when I walk into my sewing room and immediately think of quilting because that’s what I do on that machine. Know what I mean?
I would probably use it to sew a pillow case or pajama shorts while teaching a sewing class.
I have been eyeing those machines at another bra sewist blogg, so excited to hear how great it is. Now to find a way to open a sewing/tea/coffee shop where we could rent time on them!!
While I have an emotional attachment to my Vikings….. Heck yes I’d love this machine!!! 2016 has been very kind to me so far, so if I happen to win….. And you don’t hear back right away…. it’s not because I’m not checking my email, it’s cause I’m lost in Baja on a surf trip. Promise to check my email when I return 🙂
I’m on an extended sewing hiatus while traveling for work, and dreaming of the kimono I’ll sew and then lounge around in as soon as the job is over!
Looks like a pretty solid choice for the price point and for a beginner. I would probably break her in with a basic baby quilt but maybe one of the brindille and twig patterns I’ve been eyeing.
I’d try my hand at a swoon bag.
I would love this machine! Great Giveaway! I still would love to buy that Machine! it looks So fancy! I hate machines that look cheap. Thank God, I am not the only one who watches Tv while sewing.
Great contest, I would sew some reusable bags.
So much closer to my price range then anything else I’ve seen reviewed! Shame there’s no Walmart in New Zealand. I’d be sewing all the knits – my current machine doesn’t have a zigzag (a very very old elna)
Oh man, I would the love to sew a Wren dress. I love my 80s Dressmaker, but it can’t use a twin needle (!) and also hates knit fabrics. Woe!
Wow, this is so cool! Will make a pair of navy, khaki-weight cotton shorts for spring/summer golf.
I’d love to try sewing some jeans on that Spiegel!
That is very cool. I’ve been planning to see some Victorian era trousers and several sets of curtains, but I think I would end up dropping them both in favour of something that used embroidery stitches!
The first thing I would make is a shift dress in something bright and spring-like (not that it is anywhere near spring weather here) or a dress for my 4 year old. She’s always begging for a rainbow of dresses 😄
Wow, this would be a real upgrade for me (my first ever sewing machine is the Ikea one…)! My kids have been begging for ninja costumes for weeks, so that would probably be the first project on my list
Oooh a graduation dress would be the first thing I’d use it for!!!
Sounds like an amazing machine for the price point! I certainly looks and operates VERY similarly to machines that cost a LOT more! I would make my Camas blouse (Thread Theory) next. And I would try out a few of those fancy stitches where the bodice meets the body of the blouse just for fun. Great idea to showcase their machine on your blog and of course this free offer is generous too 🙂
My first project would be a grainline moss skirt.
My husband is going on a business trip to the US for 3 weeks. I ordered the Cascade Duffle Coat from Grainline Studio and I planned to spend some quality time with my sewing machine. It would be much more exciting to do it with this Spiegel. Your review made me curious.
We have a special event coming up in March. I would make a dress for my daughter. Hope I win this beauty.
Wow! What a pretty machine! Seems it will be a good little workhorse, too. I especially like seeing the ease in which it handled that delicate Liberty fabric.
Were this beauty to come and live with me (please!!), the first things I would make are a pair of wool crepe trousers with Simplicity 3688 and a printed crepe drape necked blouse. *sigh* The perfect Phryne Fisher outfit.
Good luck, everyone!
Sarah
rhinestonesandtelephones@gmail.com
Awesome giveaway! Great timing too, since it’s my birthday today. haha. First thing I would make is the portside travel set cause I was gifted the pattern for my birthday and have been wanting to make the set eversince I saw them on your blog!
Good luck to everyone! I’m sure this beautiful machine will make some one super happy 🙂
I remember Spiegel commercials back in the eighties, early nineties? Never thought they’d make sewing machines! I love the tablet holder. The first thing I would sew is a set of bow ties and neckties for my sons. They’ve been asking for a while and my machine is dying a slow sad death 😦 Thanks for the chance!
Ahhh My first project would be to tackle the repairs to my favorite dress, the zipper came off! I have a janome that I LOVE when it is working… but unfortunately it is broken most of the time Haven’t been able to fix it this last time and finally coming around to the fact that I might need a new machine!
What a gorgeous machine! I’d definitely be more likely to sew more often, as I would want it sitting out just to look at. Currently I stash my machine in a closet while not in use, which means that things pile up until I get around to setting it all back up. The first thing I would make isn’t anything exciting: a dust cover for the generator out in the barn. I’ve been meaning to get around to that since before Christmas, but it still hasn’t happened.
What a pretty machine! I would finally quilt and bind a pretty quilt top that’s been languishing for some time 🙂
I would sew a jacket with that gorgeous machine!!!!
The new Almada Robe from Seamwork! Those embroidery stitches look like they would be really cool details!
A thank you gift ;).
I’ve only been seriously sewing for less than a year on an old brother that my grandmother gave me. I’ve been working on my first coat, so realistically if I got a new machine I’d probably finish that up with it…assuming I don’t throw it in the trash in frustration first. But if we are talking new projects, I’d say a new gray raincoat for spring. I already have the fabric and two patterns to choose from:
http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/fur-lined-parka-012016
http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/trench-coat-122011
Such a great giveaway – can’t wait to see who the lucky winner is!
I would definitely sew myself some jeans on that beautiful baby!
Awesome giveaway. As much as I would like to try out those fancy embroidery stitches that my 1940s Singer 201K can only dream of, I suppose my first project ought go be the trousers I promised my dad about a year ago.
Nice looking machine! I think I’d work on some summer clothes, since it’s already getting warm here in Vegas!
I would have to try out the embroidery stitches first, so probably a basic skirt with embroidery along the hem and side and pocket seams
I would knock out a whole series of lark and plantain tees! My current machine has to be hacked to accommodate a second spool of thread for a double needle and it’s stretch stitch stinks. I would love an upgrade so I can love all the knits.
A long taffeta skirt for a Victorian fancy dress 40th is next on my sewing list!
Oooh…this machine looks really nice! And the giveaway is open to international readers, too! If I got my hands on this Spiegel, I’d definitely want to use some of those pretty decorative stitches. I’m imagining a 40s-sh blouse with some embroidery around the yoke.
I think the first project I would make is a pair of ginger jeans! This machine looks so awesome! Thanks for the give away!
I would make a skirt, I think! I haven’t sewn really since starting grad school, and not I want to get back into it again.
What a gorgeous retro machine ! I think I would whip up some delicate silk satin knickers with some pretty embroidery stitches as decoration for good measure … Well Valentine’s Day is just around the corner !
I sew need that machine! It would reside at my cabin in the woods so that I would not have to tug my beastly Bernina out there any longer, especially now that I know the handle could actually break and the one on this Spiegel would not! I still have an old Spiegle charge card from days gone by, wonder if I could buy all of those extra feet for it? Thanks for telling me about the machine, I look forward to hearing more about it!
The first thing I would make it a button up shirt so I could play with makin button holes! Thank yo so much for the giveaway
If I win this machine I’ll try my hand at quilting a small project finally!
I imagine my chances of winning are slim, but not as slim as they’d be if I don’t enter!! i’d love to make Janet Preys Express jacket as there’s lots of top stitching and would feel like sewing royalty if I had 2 machines so didn’t have to be swapping threads every 2 minutes!! 🙂
Wow. Cool machine.
OMG I love gold accents!!! I would make the Cypress Cape from Sewaholic Patterns. I just love the look!!
Sounds like a decent machine. I’ve been looking for something to recommend for beginners. I would finally buy a bra kit and would learn to make bras.
Beautiful, sleek looking machine. Stitch quality looks nice. First project would be a tailored shirt for my husband.
I would to finally make a Cordova jacket! And lots of cute stuff for my son.
What a pretty machine, love the phone shelf! Mine always gets lost when sewing. It is super hot here in the Southern Hemisphere and I would love to try this machine out with a pair of work-suitable linen shorts (pattern to be located). Also looking ahead to autumn/winter sewing….
smashandme@hotmail.com
Oh, man, she looks like a real beauty! I own a vintage Pfaff which sews beautifully and I just LOVE the IDT but I’d probably use the Spiegel to sew something that is a bit of drag on the Pfaff: buttonholes! It only does 4-step-buttonholes and it’s a little tricky to get them all even on a button-down shirt and not make them all different lengths, and mess with my OCD lol. So a whole army of button-down shirts is probably the road I would go! 🙂
I’d sew baby items for a nursery, including crib skirt, crib sheets, and blankets.
Open worldwide? Whaaaat? I’d probably make a shirt dress first. I actually really like my sewing machine (a very basic brother), only sewing buttonholes on it annoys me so. much.
This looks like a wonderful machine. I would make a dress from a lovely piece of scuba knit (Peacock print) that I purchased last fall from Mood Fabrics. I also have a jacket pattern I would love to sew in a fine wale corduroy. That buttonhole feature looks very tempting.
All of the technology on this machine is exciting. I’d use it to make skirts for my first grown-up job (which starts on the 15th!). I would learn to embroider and use the embroidery stitches to make my homemade pieces look high-quality.
I would make my gazillionth Archer shirt with a green plaid fabric I bought in Tokyo last year.
I’m thinking my first project on a brand spanking new Spiegel would be a quilt for my new niece/nephew to be. Can’t resist cute baby stuffs!!
The machine looks very stylish! I think I would give it some hard stuff – jeans!
Oh my, it looks beautiful! I’d be sewing some button front frocks, because I’ll be needing front access for the next year or so. My beloved Bernina 830 is THE BEST MACHINE EVER, but alas, it does not sew very neat or uniform buttonholes (not when I’m behind it anyway). The Spiegel would be a much needed addition to my sewing family!
I have just started cutting out the pattern for a Bombshell dress and a new machine would be amazing help since there is a lot of detail and precision in it. I remember finding your blog some years ago because you wrote about such a dress. You have an amazing blog:)
This Spiegel machine would be perfect for teaching my granddaughter to sew. A perfect beginning project would be a pillowcase using some of the decorative stitches for the hem decoration, next would be pajamas and the list grows, Thank you for the opportunity
Spiegel is still around!?! I used to love their catalog and bought frequently from it. I remember one of my favorite dresses was from there. Sounds like a great machine for my daughter who wants to get started sewing.
I’d give it to my little sis for her birthday…she has a basic machine and does some awesome stuff with it so I’d love to see what she could rock out with a little more advanced machine!!
I am currently making cycling gear for my husband and I – with an emphasis on bright and visible, with a side order of fits our tall frames. If I won this beauty, I’d probably start with cycling jerseys, using fun patterned fabric from spoonflower (red with black dinosaurs for hubby, pop art poster panels for me!
And I’d give my Janome to my daughter.
I would see the shirt I’ve been promising my husband since about 2013 oops!
It is a beautiful looking machine.
Katie
Hardly an exciting make, but the first thing I’d sew would be an early ’90s Vogue pattern skirt. It’s nothing spectacular, but it does have a yoke and then it flares nicely.
I would sew a prom dress for my granddaughter!
Jeans! My litmus test for a good machine is jeans, then maybe something in voile to really put it through its paces. ;-).
I’d make a Linden sweater – nice and cozy for winter!
This is such a cool machine! I would sew some lovely spring tops in cotton lawn without them getting chomped up by my rubbish old machine.
This isn’t a brand I’ve heard of in the Germany so it’s interesting to find out what else is out there. If I won I would definitely start with some button downs and summer dresses! To be honest it’s kind of exciting to see them finally use some of the tech advances you see in phones etc, in a sewing machine!
My next sewing project is a coat, why non try the Spiegel machine?
My first project, if I should be fortunate to be the lucky winner, would be to make the “Very” Easy Vogue sort-of Diane V.F. look alike Pattern V8379…using a beautiful pastelish colors jersey knit print…This project has been on my shelf waiting for me to return to my beloved sewing that has been on recess since my husband of 30 years dumped me last year…I am almost finished with my personal pity-party and ready to pick-up those scissors (and yes, I am trying to appeal to your possibly feeling sorry for me!)
Oh wow! This machine sounds so great! I do have one of the more “budget-friendly” machines myself and although it’s okay, overall, I do find myself wishing it had a metal base. The plastic makes me apprehensive. Too apprehensive to try sewing jeans and that’s a dream project — so if I happened to be the lucky winner of this giveaway, I’d go for jeans. Most likely Ginger jeans. You’ve sewn up some gorgeous ones, Lauren!
I would make a belated Valentines present for myself to go with this beautiful belated Valentines sewing machine – a ruby red silk satin nightdress. Sorry, did I say it was for me? I meant of course it’s for my husband… 🙂
I would sew up some comfy knit tops that would work with nursing my daughter. I don’t have enough of those tops, and they’re very expensive. Just slap the maternity label on something and the price skyrockets.
I would use it to make charity quilts for orphaned children and elderly women for my church’s adopted village in Guatemala.
I would sew some hooded bath towels for babies!
Definitely more jeans – because then I’d have two machines and wouldn’t have to keep switching threads for topstitching!
I was looking for a heavy duty sewing machine 😀 the Spiegel machine looks awesome. My first project on this would be a cotton dress for my Mother. I use the e-mail id towardslight@live.com
Looking forward to your posts on sewing 🙂
Oh man sounds like fun! I love that they have taken into account some modern world needs(aka cell phone shelf!). The metal frame sounds lovely too! I would probably sew my husband a pair of jeans or two…that’s been on the list for a while!
I would see new summer dresses!
Looks like a great machine! I think I’d have to try making a zip pouch, since I make a ton of them!
I would start with making a dress for myself. And then I would see Christmas presents for the whole family.
Oh wow! This sounds like the perfect machine for my 7-year-old daughter, who is very keen to start making clothes for herself. I do have a Bernina (albeit an aging one), but it would be lovely to be able to sit together. With three younger siblings the time she gets to spend alone with me is limited, and it would be wonderful if we could sit together and sew! ❤
I’d make a fancy granville with byou-ti-ful buttonholes. You rock, Lauren!!
I’d love to try the Spiegel for sewing a blouse, probably a Sewaholic Granville.
The first project I would try on this machine if I was the lucky winner would be a new sorbetto top (with a few tweaks after my first versions that could be a tiny better fitted) !
I would love to make a new one for the summer!
What would I sew first!! Ginger Jeans. My 25 year old machine has been all over the country with the military and is about to bite it. Even after servicing I don’t trust it with heavy denim. I don’t do a lot of fancy sewing, but I need a good basic machine.
What a great sewing machine! I’d probably sew something simple as my first project (maybe a cotton tank?) so I could get used to the machine and play around with some decorative stitching.
What a beautiful machine! I love de phone/tablet doc and that retro vibe!
And I am so glad that it is an international give away, since I live in Spain. The first thing I would sew is a knit dress. Currently I only own a straight stitch machine and I want to remake a knit dress that belonged to my mom. I can already picture my cat, Mary Margaret, playing with the threat while I sew 🙂
I’m not that experienced with patterns yet, but am hoping to be able to refashion the dozens of thrift store finds collecting dust in my closet! With this machine I would attempt more challenging sewing endeavors that my current, second hand sewing machine just will not work on. Specifically I have a 1960’s orange plaid dress that I would love to make some changes on to make it wearable!
My first project would be a silky slip. I’m a sucker for nice undergarments.
I have a sofa to re-upholster, that would be my first test for the Spiegel!
Thank you for the great review!! To be honest I would also use the phone stand to watch Netflix!! The first project I would make would be the Pocket Full of Posies dress, for spring!!
I would sew a drndl with all that fancy embroidery stitching – even a whole row of the alphbet! (too much – nah!)
Wow. That seems great. The first thing I would sew is my latest obsession: the geranium dress for babies!! Everyone around me is having little girls and those decorative stitches would look great on child clothing!!
Pam
I have a whole bunch of projects pending to be sewn! For starters I want to sew a new pair of white gingers, so pick me, pick me LOL
I would go crazy with those fun decorative stitches (my current machine has VERY limited stitch options) and then make a simple frock. The Schoolhouse Tunic is my go to for something super easy frock!
I love your posts and always check my email inbox for the next one. I love how you write it all up in a rather friendly manner.
Thank you for this post. I am in the market for making a troupe’s Ceili dresses, after finishing my first ever Irish dance competition dress only last week ( I only found out there are such dresses last November) and would love the Spiegel 60609 to get them done. So many stitches… My hands are itching to be given the opportunity to try them all out. Won’t that be awesome 😀 But, only time will tell.
I would make something basic, I’m just a beginner. I guess next up is a dress for my stepdaughter.
The machine seems pretty nice! The first project I would work on would be a knit dress… Moneta, specifically 🙂
My first project would be another pair of Ginger Jeans!! Would love to be able to see them with ease without changing my current machine’s thread every 6minutes… although I have a feeling Netflix in the phone holder would be a little distracting whilst perfecting my top stitching!! The fancy stitch types could be used to create some interesting features instead of standard twin-needle top stitching!! Exciting giveaway 🙂
Great giveaway!!
Ah, apparently I’m anonymous?! Shouldn’t be the case as I’m logged in just incase, my email address (to go with the above comment) is sheisthewildyouth@gmail.com 🙂
I’d try out the stretch stitches on some swimwear!
Thanks so much for the giveaway!!!! I have been meaning to sew some athletic wear.
What a gorgeous machine i like that it isn’t plastic it will last a long time. My first project would be a pair of pants for mr mom mossaenda@hotmail..com
Lovely! I would make a Camberset dress (stokesrenee@gmail.com)
Great gìveaway! The first thing ai would sew would be a cropped jacket.
I have been drooling over this machine for a few months already…why is not available in the UK?! I would start with an Anna dress for a wedding I have coming up!
That machine looks kind of 80s fabulous. I’d like to try making my first lady skater!
I’ve been drooling over this machine for a few months now…please start selling them in the UK Spiegel! I would start with an Anna dress for a wedding I have coming up!
The machine is very beautiful. And so many different zigzag stitches!
I’m in the middle of cutting my first pair of Birkin Flares, so probably this will be my first project, sewed, if I win.
I think I’d finally sew up my first pair of jeans… Finally! Here’s hoping 🙂
first project? Hmmmm. Maybe that unpieced quilt that’s been sitting in a corner, oh so lonely, for the past decade. Yep, that’d be it!
Now that I am retired, I have the time to go back to sewing. Unfortunately my machine like myself has become vintage. I would love the opportunity to sew on the new computerized machines & try all the bells and whistles you have described above. I would use this machine to meet the challenge of fitting a 60’s body in 2016 style.
I’ve been hording some lovely pink wool … a fitted princess seam shift with a matching long coat … that’s what I’m making. With embroidery accents. I’ve been pricing machines the past two months. I’m also a die-hard Pfaff girl with strong loyalties, but I’m taking your comments seriously. I’m finding plastic hard to deal with when I’ve been used to a good metal workhorse machine for all these years.
Wow, looks like a fun machine! I think I would make some pillows and home dec accessories. They might be a great plain slate for some of those decorative stitches.
What a fantastic looking sewing machine, so art deco, love the retro look.
I would make a lovely Colette patterns dress, maybe Peony. Or be brave and
try a knit dress.
I would make a dress for my cousins wedding at the end of next month with some beautiful pink silk I’ve been saving for years!
I’ve been eyeing that machine for a while, especially with the embroidery stitches! I got some teal floral cotton voile coming my way and I’m thinking a Simplicity 1803 with it and have it have decorative lining
I’d make some jeans! My cheap sewing machine can’t handle all the layers of denim and I’d love a new machine!
So that’s what my sewing machine is missing. A phone shelf! What a great idea.
First project… some new skirts. My old favourites are wearing out. Maybe try the colette patterns ginger skirt.
The first project I’d sew on my new Spiegel machine would be something with lettering. I’d love to put my initials and my kids initials on their garments. Maybe even an email address!
How do I stop getting everyone’s comment? My email is clogged!
Leggings! I would make leggings.
It’s sooo pretty…
What neat accessories. It would be nice to try a modern machine. Since I have a new kitten, I would make some pretties for her, toys and a hammock. That would be a good way to play with those stitches.
I’d make an Archer (have to get over my fear of collars) and more pants (Thurlows!) if I can conquer my lingering fly anxiety (what my husband calls “crotch work” – I thought you’d enjoy that). you helped me through my first pair of pants in Maine so I think I can do it. And a new machine doesn’t hurt.
Yay!! I would use it to make a raincoat I’ve been meaning to make forever!
Ooh it’s beautiful! I would sew new work clothes. That might sound boring but my wardrobe used to be almost entirely handmade, then I had my first baby; she’ll be 1 in a few months and I’ll have to return to work, and my body simply is not the same shape or size that it used to be. I hate shopping for clothes and all my years of handmade clothes are sitting in boxes in case I ever fit them again. So, I need something better than mum’s 30 year old Janome to get me through!
I would love to get m hands on this machine – it looks fantastic. My first project would be my beloved purple satin velvet overlayed with an iridescent floral/ paisley pattern in metallic, I’ve been putting off cutting into this beautiful fabric, but I think I just found it’s maker…A new coat out of this material would be stupendous
Yay for worldwide giveaways – I am currently renovating my house and my sewing machines are all packed away for the next few months, I think I’d love to try bra making 1. because bras are important and 2. small fabric, easy to not take over the entire rest of the house. 🙂
Beautiful machine! I would sew my first Vouge pattern that is on my sewing table, a pink dress.
I would be able to add initials and fancy stitching to the dresses of the rag dolls I make. I make about 2 a day – think of the possibilities!
Oh wow, what an amazing looking machine. All that technology! I’m such a geek and with that machine I’d be able to sew and geek out at the same time!
My first project would be a Megan Nielsen pattern, prob a darling ranges dress, that way I could utilise her iPad app to the max!
I would sew a whole new wardrobe! Both of my machines just quit on me and I’ve been looking for a new one. I would love to win this machine and I just want to put it out there that Feb. 15th is my birthday! 🙂
I would make the Spiegel Angelina Skirt with the 60609!
Looks like a great machine–I’d get going on those skirt patterns I’ve bought!
Nice machine! I’d definitely make a 70’s style summer blouse:)
I would probably get to work on making myself that two piece suit out of African Wax Print Fabric I have been dreaming up!
I’ve been meaning to sew up the Watson set, so that would probably be the first thing I’d have a go at 🙂
the first thing I would sew is some new summer clothes for my grandaughter
Thank you for the review and giveaway! The first thing I would sew on this machine would be Watson bra and bikini.
Beautiful machine and so many features! I would sew a Grainlne Archer. Great pattern for a great machine.
I would make something with lots of buttonholes, because I’m scared of the giant button holer for my Singer 201. I’m sure I won’t be the only person to say this, but I really need a new machine. I recently left a high-paying, soul-sucking job with an evil drug company to work for a non-profit doing (FDA approved) psychedelic research – thought you might think that’s cool, given your recent post about ayahuasca experiences. I’m so so much happier but have very little cash now so I take in sewing to make ends meet. A modern machine could really open up options for this mending work, so I’ll cross my fingers!
What a cute machine! I am just getting back into sewing after a 20 yr hiatus and would love to have a new machine to sew knit fabric garments. I plan to start sewing bras, tops and bottoms for myself. My old machine does not have the fancy stretch stitches that knit fabrics require.
What a pretty stitch it has!!!!
I’m making a wedding dress for my future daughter-in-law! I would LOVE to make it on a new machine :). After that, I’ll make my mother of the groom dress. So excited!!
The first project I would sew is a sewaholic Granville shirt followed by Ginger jeans.
Wonderful concept – pairing new technology with sewing. Downloadable stitches, phone dock, how amazing! I think this is an incredible way to get the younger generation into sewing. I would sew shorts and tees for spring wardrobes for my family on this. I think it would intrigue my daughter to learn to sew too!
I’d probably work on the Archer flannel that I just don’t seem to have time to work on, and it would be nice to have my own machine, instead of using my mom’s
I would actually give this to my sister, who is in desparate need for a new sewing machine!
Wow. 640 comments. I have so many things I could use it for. But I’m mainly looking to make a dress to wear to my inlaws 50th anniversary party – going 60s vintage. email…suzanne.mcdonald at yahoo dot com
Looks great! I would sew my newest pattern, Butterick 5526, in a coral chambray followed by an ivory silk and probably many other versions!
An archer shirt to use the buttonhole stitch. Looking forward to your projects. This machine is definitely more in my budget.
Ooh how exciting and what a pretty machine. I lurrrv the idea of the wifi port. I think I’d be watching Games of Thrones on my phone whilst using some of those lovely embroidery stitches on a white lawn blouse – and drinking coffee. My perfect afternoon.
My next project will be partly hand-sewn, but I’d use this for the machine parts. A coworker of mine saw and loved a pillow someone made and posted on reddit with the line “Behold! The field in which I grow my fucks — Lay thine eyes upon it and see that it is barren”. I’ve worked with him for about 3 1/2 years and I’m about to move out of state so I figured I’d try to copy it for him.
omeomy07 at yahoo.com
This machine sounds like a great design, a quality machine at at affordable price. I love the built-in shelf and the charging spot. I would make a skirt for my college-age niece, who is long on fashion sense and short on funds, with the hope that I could lure her into sewing with the gift of this sweet machine.
I just saw the Spiegel sewing machines online for the first time a couple of weeks ago! I’m showing my age, but when they used to advertise on TV, the announcer would always announce their zip code – which was 60609 – too funny they used it as the model #.
1st Project – I’ve been wanting to make a tunic with a lot of decorative stitching – this would be a perfect machine for it.
Sewaholic Granville blouse!
Ps. Love your blog 🙂
You have convinced me the Spiegel 60609 would be a good investment!
If I where so fortunate to win a Spiegel 60609, I would first use it to create a keyhole button In the waistband of the jeans I am sewing, then do some monograms, use the triple stitch zigzag (this stitch is not available to me on any of my three vintage pre-digital Berninas), use the auto threader to help my aging eyes, and try out the stitch cam. Other stitches that look appealing are the basting stitch, the “sew on the button stitch”, and the Greek key design in the premium embroidery stitches.

Oh snap, what a great giveaway!!! I’ve been using a base model Kenmore machine going on 20 years right now, so I could really use an upgrade! The first thing I’d make would be a quilt out of all the vintage embroidered linens that I’ve been collecting (ahem, hoarding) for the past several years; those decorative stitches would really make this quilt even more special!
White and gold and a metal case for under $300? Wowza. I would probably finally sew up a pair of pants for my husband. Everything was cut back in December, so I bet a shiny new thing would motivate me to finish the damn thing
Natalia@eatmorecheese
Natalia@eatmorecheese.me. sorry my phone derped
The first project I would sew on this would be a Staple Dress. Oh, please. I hope I get to sew a Staple Dress on it.
OMG. I have had two mechanical machines and have never wanted a computerised one until I saw this. I would sew a shirt dress (Colette Hawthorn or sew over it vintage shirt dress) and use those onestep keyhole buttonholes, I’ve always wanted a machine that had those ;o)
Holy cow, I had to scroll through a lot of comments to find this box, ha!!! The first thing I would sew is buttonholes on a shirt I made awhile ago that I’m avoiding finishing because of the manual way I have to do buttonholes on the 70’s machine I use now! Thanks for the review and opportunity! 🙂 penelopey4@yahoo.com
I would make use of all those fantastic embroidery stitches, and make a scarf out of bits and pieces of whatever sandwiched between layers of water soluble stabilizer. Hope I win!
I’d sew my bridesmaid dress for my friend’s wedding. It’s a lovely machine!
I’ve been looking for a cheap(er) not-so-basic machine, so this would be perfect. The first thing I would sew on it would be a summer shirt dress!
Thanks for the chance to win! I would make a shirt with cute embroidery stitches around the bottom. ll those stitches are amazing!
rice.yates@gmail.com
My machine was lovely when i bought it but that was 30 years ago. I think it is time for an upgrade to new. Thanks
I’d be making some Ginger flares.
Oh my gosh! Such a gorgeous machine!! With that I could sew all the pretties! What would I sew first… I need new jeans, but a maxi skirt is calling my name… But then I could sew a doll for my daughter and test out all the fancy stitches on the doll clothes… Tough call, but if I had to pick, I think a maxi skirt or dress would break her in nicely!
A jumpsuit!
I would sew a wool Grain line Studio Cascade coat.It has snowed so much in Colorado this winter and I am needing a pick me up to get through the rest of winter!
I am going to make my boyfriend a beard protector. Thanks Lauren
From Dimitria
My next project is a silk pussy bow blouse. Perfect for a new machine at has awesome stitch quality!
I’ve been casually eyeing a new machine… No preference here (but I learned on a Bernina, and I covet one…. But not the price!). This machine is calling my name. Here’s hoping!
Hi,
Thanks for hosting the giveaway! My first project on the Speigel 60609 would be a mermaid doll for my daughter (Simplicity 8067).
Love the look of this machine. It’s so purty. I would use this to teach my daughter to sew, s maybe a simple skirt or sundress since it is still very hot here in Queensland. What a fantastic giveaway!
That’s a pretty nifty machine! I think the first thing I would sew on this machine is a hollyburn skirt in a beautiful navy linen I’ve been hoarding.
Very pretty! For my first project on this baby, I would sew a rash guard for body surfing!!
An Easter dress for my DD!
Ok you got my attention. Yeah this machine is quite pretty and I definitely want it! I look forward to seeing more info regarding the machine. I guess the first thing I would try to sew would be some cute bra sets.
First project would probably be more hexis for the eternal Grandmother’s flower garden quilt I’ve been making for the past couple of years. Or a new dress…depends on how soon after I go fabric shopping in April it would be! 😉
What a great giveaway! If I won I’d be trying it out for the tap pants and plunge bra I plan to make 🙂
I am wanting to work on a couple of fleece dolls, so would likely start with that!
I have decided that 2016 will be the year of pants for me. This machine would be a great way to start that off!
I’d probably go with a pair of jeans… There’s nothing like testing out something new with a less than easy project!
I would use it for curtains and pillows for the guest bedroom but I also want to try clothing. I’ve always done home dec projects and trying my hand at clothing is on my list this year.
The machine is a pretty thing, I would make a new spring jacket and skirt with it.
The first thing I would sew would be some pretty knickers. I need me some new pretty knickers!
Great giveaway!
Thank you for the giveaway – if I were to win the Speigel sewing machine I would gift it to my daughter and her first project on it would be a ball dress for her school ball in July, in green silk.
I’d love to sew some pants soon. I’m so in need of a pair or two. Great giveaway. Thanks!
That is a fine looking machine. Were I to win, I would make my first bra and undies set! I’ve ordered the kit from Blackbird and waiting for it to arrive in lil’ old NZ.
My first project would probably be to finally hem the curtains I made for the front room 3 years ago. Then I would start attacking my fabric stash with gusto making myself a closet full of marvelous dresses.
I will sew my new jean jacket and use one of the gorgeous embroidery stiches.
oh god, i would sew everything with this gem. but first up…new curtains. so boring i knowww
Love the gold!
My first project would be a dress for my 2 year old granddaughter. Thank you for the opportunity to win the machine.
Probably curtains for my new house!
So fun! The Carolyn PJs that I just spent all evening tracing the pattern for!
Wow! Popular giveaway! I have a jelly roll that I’ve been ignoring (sewing clothes). If I won the machine I think I’d take this puppy for a ride and madly stitch up a quilt for my guest room. That would be quite a workout, and it would familiarize me with the machine. After that go-around I’m pretty sure I’d feel comfortable with tackling all the available stitches and such. Ah, a comment and a dream!
Omg what an exciting prospect – love the iPhone shelf – imagine being able to watch the tutorial at your machine – cool. I seriously need a tutorial for making pants so that would be my first project.
Hmm … that might fit in perfectly for my daughters’ Easter dresses, my oldest is 6, not sure how much longer she’s going to be cool with Mom-made dresses.
Jeans jeans jeans!!!!
onejolie at gmail dot com
I have this Vision of gold next to my red and white machine. They’d look so good.
I would looove to win! I would set it up as a second machine with topstitching thread so I don;t have to keep switching out, and sew an awesome pair of jeans!
I love the USB jack! I listen to podcasts when I sew and my phone is always dying on me. I have been dreaming of and planning a jumpsuit with cropped pants for spring.
If I won I would probably make a handmade quilt for my first child. The embroidery will allow me to personalize it with their name. I think this will be a wonderful keepsake. I’m so excited! *fingers crossed*
Oooh, I have some Cone Mills denim that told me it would love to make that machine’s acquaintance!
Thank you for the review and for hosting this giveaway. I definitely fall in the “$2000 is a car not a sewing machine” group so I like seeing a more affordable option. If I win the first thing I would sew is a little Warriors shirt for my dog because she is a huge basketball fan. It would say “we are championship”.
Foam cup bra! And I’d use the phone plug in to watch the bra craftsy class while I sewed it. Awesome for that
I’ve been eyeing this machine ever since I saw Maddie post about it! I have a vintage bernina and a 10 year old singer but it’s love something worth more stitch options, especially stretch stitches. The first thing I would make would be a dress to wear to my cousin’s wedding this summer!
This would be wonderful! I’d see pyjamas.
Awesome stuff! I would make a pair of Mid Rise Ginger Skinny jeans, and the best part would be the fringed denim trim on the ankles!! I don’t have enough denim that fits, and I am newly obsessed with that pattern!
That’s a great-looking machine, and so clever with the USB, phone shelf, and downloadable stitches. I’m about 4 months pregnant, so I’d definitely start out with some maternity gear and then move on to cute baby stuff.
Holy cow! I need a new sewing machine! My Singer from 1982 is working fine, but she hasn’t sewn a buttonhole in about 15 years and has a hard time with special fabric, like lightweight pretty stuff.
4 friends are having 5 babies (one set of twins) in the next few months, so the first thing I’d probably make on this machine would be a baby blanket. Then… all kinds of silky things covered in buttons… because I CAN (or I could, with a new machine).
Thanks for the review. I think I could convince my husband that this machine might be affordable. 🙂
That Spiegel would enter the sewing machine market is intriguing! I like that it is metal, as is my existing 40!! year old Kenmore basic machine. I actually have a 2016 sewing to do list and time to complete it – next is a dusty green lightweight wool challis dress, 3/4 sleeves.
I think that for me my first project would have to be a dress inspired by a classic film. That way I could watch said film with my tablet on the shelf while I sew. Or maybe some more would leggings to roll the derby in.
Love the machine! I’d sew some ginger jeans or Carolyn pajamas! Finally a spot for the tablet!!!
Love the connectivity options and spot for the phone. I’ve taken a few months off of sewing, but have been wanting to brave sewing a first a pair of pants. I’ve done skirts, shirts, dresses, wool coat, but never pants..
The reason I actually don’t sew as much as I want to is because of the current machine I have. I love it, it’s vintage Singer, but man sometimes it just can’t do the harder jobs I try to push on it. I’m also on a pretty thin budget so my dream machine will stay a dream for a few more years. If I won this giveaway I’d sew up that Watson Bra I’ve had cut out for weeks now, but haven’t tackled because the zig zag stitch on my machine is such a nightmare 😦
FINGERS SO HARD CROSSED.
Beautiful Machine! I’d make a quilt, I’m beginning to love quilting 🙂
Wow, it sure is a pretty machine. Very Art Deco. I think my first project on it would be a tailored shirt … another Archer or perhaps a Granville.
I would make something with buttonholes. My older Bernina doesn’t make very nice buttonholes. Or maybe I should say “I don’t make very nice buttonholes with my older Bernina”!
I would love to make this 70’s dress from a pattern i bought a while ago.
Very cool machine!!
Very pretty – I do like the gold styling. I would make a shirt – my current buttonhole function is a nightmare so I avoid buttonholes like the plague!
The first thing I would see is an A-line skirt. I’ve had the fabric and pattern for over a year now!
Definitely the Nina coat by shwin designs that just came out today!!
Well it looks very jazzy, very 21st century. I am impressed with the wifi and the electronic display. I have an old Janome that used to be my mothers it sews well but it is not fancy at all. I have thought fleetingly of a nice quilting type machine but mine works well. I am on a handbag craze at the moment so that would be my first project, plus I have some lovely voile that I want to make a summer blouse out of… where to start!
I didn’t know that Siegel made sewing machines! If I’m the lucky winner I’ll make a shirtdress.
I was wishing I had somewhere (off the table) for my iPad while sewing. I’d make a blouse first.
Yay! I would make some Tania culottes – dreaming of an early spring!
Oooh, I’d probably sew a knit piece of clothing, since I’ve always been meaning to try it (maybe a Deer&Doe pattern?)! Thank you for this giveaway 🙂
I’d try my hand at making a dress from a pattern for the first time!
I would be looking forward to have a professional machine, as compared to mine, and sew a lovely Rooibos dress from Colette Patterns. I would have some many decorative stitches that I wouldn’t know where to start!
I would love to have such a machine and make a Rooibos dress from Colette patterns. I would try lots of top stitches to embellish the dress 🙂
I would love to win this and love to first sew a Hollyburn or Rae skirt!
I would attempt my first coat! been coveting a flared spring trench coat.
A worldwide giveaway?? Wow!! This sewing machine looks amazing! I think that if I’d win, I’d tackle those Birkin Flares first!
I just found your wonderful site yesterday, and today there’s a giveaway – double win! The first thing I would want to make on the Spiegel would be a calf-length coat made from a length of vintage beige French cashmere that my friend gave me when she closed her vintage clothing shop. (And oh! the phone shelf!!!)
Oh, gee… where do I start? I could make a second Marlborough… Ginger Jeans… Birkins, various stash busters… a leather clutch. All would be/should be made and a shiny new beeeeeeyoutiful machine would be just the shove I need!
What an excellent giveaway! If I won this machine, the first thing I’d do is make a skirt with that scallop topstitch! So cute.
xo
kittee
It is a lovely looking machine. I could totally see myself getting distracted watching movies and running of course with my sewing! I would attempt some Ginger jeans on my new machine.
A qhite shirt in new to me, cotton with a bit of stretch. I do not have the recommended two shite shirts.
This looks a great machine. A large range of stitches. Love the shape and color. A new sweater inspired by Mondrian using faux leather would be my first sew if I’m the lucky winner.
What a mouth-watering post! I would make Deer&Doe dresses for the spring/summer watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show (fingers crossed and thanks for the giveaway!)
What a nifty machine. If I am lucky enough to win, I’d love to make a pair of jeans.
Hi! I’m a fellow Nashvillian and blog/sewing fan! The very first thing I would sew would be pretty simple – a pillow case to display the awesome hand embroidery I made for my sister’s recent wedding.
I would sew some underwear, a bra to be more specific. Also, seeing the alphabet/number stitches this machine does, I could finally stitch the size into the garments for my daughter. I might also have to sew a black skirt, trying out all those embroidery stitches in different colours around the hem.
I’m a super beginner and would love to use this to sew up my first set of carolyn pyjamas!
What a beautiful looking machine!
I have some wonderful flannel just waiting to be made into pjs.
What a Beauty!! First thing to sew on it would be a quilt dir pur new home! The living room needs some colour!
I wonder if there’s some kind of revolution going on in manufacturing. We recently bought a Project record player because for the money they’ve included all the good stuff you normally get with far more expensive ones. So, hey, thanks Spiegle. I’d make the Vintage Shirt Dress cos it’s next on my list & I think the machine would appreciate the vibe with its own vintage looks.
Hi. It looks smashing! I love the look of it and the weight of it. I am planning on making a Named Inari dress in some beautiful viscose from Splendid stitch. Love your style – both in sewing and in blogging. Judith
If i won this beauty I’d like to get to grips with sewing slippery light fabrics before having a cracking at sewing my wedding dress and something fancy for my masters graduation 🙂 probably the first thing I’d sew would just be sampling some of those stitches though!
What would I sew? ALL THE THINGS. But I’d start with a summer blouse with some delicious Liberty lawn in my stash. And I always watch Netflix while I sew, so that little ledge is my favourite feature of this machine.
My first project would be Closet Case Files” Clare coat in a gorgeous Caroline Herrera wool plaid. But I’d probably begin with quick simple top pattern just to break in the machine.
I’ve seen the catalog, but never knew Spiegel ever made a sewing machine. After poking around I see there was a vintage Vogue/Stitch Spiegel machine, made around the 1950’s-60s I’d guess. Pretty cool. I admit I’d like to see how their re-entry into the sewing machine realm compares by sewing up my first tries at a basic made to measure pants from Bootstrap Fashions for me and my daughter.
I need a new pair of jeans so that would be the first try on this pretty machine.
I’m still using my grans 1970s machine that is starting to have some very concerning sounds! Despite the nostalgia, oh for a modern machine that could manage all sorts! I’d finally get round to tackling some trousers and love to do the ginger jeans.
I’m still using my grans 1970 machine. Despite doing well it’s starting to make some dubious sounds. Despite the nostalgia, oh for a modern machine that can do all sorts. I’d therefore finally tackle some jeans and would make some ginger jeans for those perfectly fitted jeans I’ve never had!
I have a hard time deciding whether to use this to finish the baby quilt for my expecting friend or make a Clare coat for myself…
Oh my Lordy!!! How exciting! What a beautiful looking machine! I would love to show this off at Australian Sewing Guild meetings, the ladies would be beside themselves! Ooohhh first thing I’d sew…that’s tough… Maybe a clutch featuring as many if the cool embroidery stitches as I could, maybe in a leather… That would be fun 😊. Thanks for the chance!
This is perfect timing. I would sew either a summer dress or a bra. Thanks to you and Speigel.
I would take this machine to 2016 sewing retreat at A Gathering of Stitches in Portland Maine this summer and make a muslin! Looks like a great little machine
An Avocado Hoodie is what I would sew first. My current machine is so basic that it can not handle knits, so I’ve been hand sewing them. I would really like to make a new hoodie for this spring.
I would make my first muslin at a sewing retreat at a Gathering of Stitches in Portland Maine this summer!
It would definitely be some Lycra love-I’d make me some Cora tights
Even though there is a fair amount of hand sewing involved, the first thing I would make on the Spiegeleisen 60609 would be the French quilted jacket! I’ve slowly been collecting all the components, silk tweed, silk organza etc . It would be a real challenge but to use a gorgeous machine like the Spiegel would be a privilege. What a great giveaway, fingers crossed!
It’s my Grandma’s 90th Birthday this year and I have been hoping to make her a quilt for all our family holiday designed t-shirts from over the last 25 years. I reckon this would be the first project I would tackle.
The first thing I would make on the Spiegeleisen 60609 would be Sewaholic’s Davie Dress for spring!
Wow! What a giveaway. If I won this sewing machine the first things I’d make would be some dresses for my granddaughters and a summer dress for myself. Thank you for hosting. Regards Ann.
I would first of all finish up one the quilt that my old machine nearly ruined!
Very exciting! I promised a winter coat to my mom as a Christmas gift, and it’s getting pretty belated at this point, so I would probably work on that. Thanks!
Love that it has a needle cam!!
Oops I hit “post” too soon! I would sew the life on Mars suit from the David Bowie video!
Hi Lauren, love your blog! I would make Closet Case Patterns Carolyn Pajamas. Thanks!
Omg so beautiful machine! It will fit perfectly in my sewing room! I cross my fingers :-))
What a great looking machine! I would see my first pair of Thurlow shorts!
Love this machine! I would love to sew a few skirts that could easily transition from work to dinners out on the town. I’m long waisted and have a slight hourglass shape, so finding cute skirts that fit my waist and my rear and aren’t terribly short can be quite the challenge.
A sewing machine that has a shelf for my phone, it’s what I have been missing so that I can watch Sherlock while sewing my first pair of jeans. Sign me up 🙂
My first project on this awesome Spiegal sewing machine would be a tote bag for choir. I would use several of the decorative stitches to make it lively and fun! Duchick at gmail dot com
What an awesome giveaway! The first thing I’d sew are some Carolyn pajamas. Because it’s winter and all I want to make are cozy snuggly things.
I would make the Sew Over It Pussy Bow Blouse that has been waiting far too long in the queue. Thanks for a great giveaway.
What a cool machine! And Netflix cause we can! Bonus! Thank you and Spiegel!
(Linynp (at) gmail dot com)
Omg what a lush looking machine! For that amazing price I’ve already asked my husband if he’d consider attempting to bring me one back when he makes a trip stateside in the autumn (answer: not a chance with the baggage allowance 😢) However if I was lucky enough to win one (pleeeaaase! Never be able to afford a computerised machine otherwise) I’d push myself to make a button up (or down..lol) shirt with tutorials playing on loop perched on top of the machine I’d use the embroidery stitches to embelish the collar and button bands I think!
I would be sewing new maternity clothes.
This is a fantastic give away thanks! The Kittens quilt would be first up to make!
Howdy it’s a toss up between some ginger jeans or the cascade duffel coat. I think the Jeans might win out though as they are in desperate need.
I would use it to sew a new jacket out of my belovet feral childe fabric. I stepped on my buttonholer so have been avoiding buttons and I miss them! I love how pretty this machine is!
This looks exciting! If I won I would use this baby to sew a banksia top!
I would use this to sew a pair of lined voile Tania culottes.
Wow this looks like a great deal with lots of options. I would make small memorial quilts out of my uncle Steven’s shirts for his grandkids. I think that some of the decorative stitching could make them extra special
Fun! A giveaway! The first thing I would make if I won this machine would be a cute outfit for my toddler. I’m picturing overalls. Thanks for doing a review and giveaway!
Wow, that machine does a lot of stuff for 300 bucks! I have been wanting to sew a button down shirt for the longest time, but have avoided it because my current machine sucks at buttonholes! So yes I would sew a slew of new blouses!
Spiegel 60609 looks like a winner, i love all of the decorative stitches! I would make a boho inspired tunic & use those decorative stitches in the yoke. The phone shelf is a nice idea, I love to listen to podcasts & audiobooks as I sew!
I will embellish the brim of a vintage hat using the embroidery stitch function. The quality of the stitches are very impressive!
I’m in the process of sewing trousers for the whole family right now. I’m planning to make at 2 more for my husband, 2 for my daughter and a few for me… a second machine would be very usefull with all that topstitching…
I am kind of regretting trading in a working sewing machine when I bought my new one, so that I could have a second for top-stitching, etc. So I’d use this machine when making jeans!
Such a nice machine! I am moving to a rainy city very soon, so I would sew a nice raincoat. 🙂
A lovely looking machine. My first project would be part of my wedding sewing – the groom’s waistcoat. I’m hoping to get that out of the way to concentrate on the dresses.
It’s a really beatuful machine!
I have a huge pile of fabric for projects, but I’ve noticed I lack blouses and tops, so my first project would be that.
Winning a machine would be a great reason to go to the fabric store for a new pattern and fabric – or maybe finally get something cool from Closet Case Files, like her sexy jeans pattern. But, knowing me, I’d get a bunch of Doctor Who fabric and make a fun geeky dress out of a simple pattern.
Wow 🙂 I’d sew my daughter a knit jacket – she’s in love with these gold anchor buttons out of my tin, and I’ve had to promise to make her something with them on!

I’ve been sewing for just a couple of years so I’m not a novice but keep learning and enjoying about sewing. my sewing machine is good for basic stuff but is really simple, doesn’t have any embroidery stitches but love that works really well! If I could have this spiegel sewing machine, I would make a boho blouse full of these darling embroidery stitches in different colors around the neck and the hem, on a white cotton voile…I’ve been dreaming about sewing something like that for a few months but as said before, I don’t have fancy stitches on my sewing machine and hand embroidery is lovely but no good for my hands. So, thank you very much for this chance! Fingers crossed!
If I won this, my first project would probably be some kind of artwork made out of all of the pretty stitches. Or, I would splurge on some Liberty that I wouldn’t put near my current clunker and make the tiniest, sweetest, most impractical baby dress I could imagine.
I would love to win. Reaching retirement age and wondering if my current machine will survive all the sewing I have planned. Jeans, jackets, and sportswear are on the list.
I have about a million UFO’s but I think I would sew a new shirt pattern I just bought on this machine-yes a new project! I really like that shelf on there for the phone and the downloadable stitches. Your blog is great. I enjoy it very much. Thanks for running a fab giveaway!
Awesome machine! Would probably make my niece a birthday dress first, and then some selfish sewing for me!
This is great! I guess my first project would be a coat – something my jumping-all-over-the-place plastic machine can’t handle!
I would love to win this! First thing I would make is a hanging thing for beside my bed because there’s no room for a bedside table in my tiny student room but I hate leaving my glasses on the floor at night!
Tini wini bikini for my Tilda rabbit 🙂 she really needs one. Summer is coming..
What a great little budget machine this looks! I’d love to try it out!
The first project I’d do in it would be a bag! I love making bags but find some machines just can’t cope with the fabric, so would love to give it a good test run! It’d look so smart in anybody’s craft room
Wooow, awesome!
i’d sew a lovely Kielo Wrap Dress with it!
🙂
my e-mail: szofisztik (@) gmail.com
I’d try my hand at putting a DvF dress with my new fabric from K L!
I would make a HBL Anna dress!
Very fun! My first project would be a sewing project with my daughter, probably an apron.
Thanks for the thorough review! I love the decorative hem features and my first project would be Simplicity 9825 skirt (in a nice summer fabric)
Wowsers! so many comments, I don’t really have much of a chance but I would probably make me a new dress, I am reducing myself via a lot of exercise and clean eating and my wardrobe is pretty shabby right now, so yes a dress would be in order. Thanks so much x
Such a beautiful machine. I’m currently two months pregnant with my first baby, and so the first thing I’d sew is some maternity clothing! I’ve had my eye on the BurdaStyle BD7320 Misses’ Maternity Dress for a while now – the sleeveless version to keep me cool in summer.
And once I get out my maternity wardrobe out of the way, I’d make a start on some adorable baby clothes 🙂
Fingers crossed I will be sewing a sewoverit vintage shirtdress out of some lovely cotton rayon I just purchased!
I have a fabric I saved because I used to fantasize I’d sew it into a beautiful jacket when I had time. But I never had time. Now that my schedule cleared up, my sewing machine is acting up and won’t collaborate. So, a Spiegel sewing machine would provide great flexibility, giving me creative freedom to sew an entire new wardrobe… but, let’s be reasonable, I’d start with a jacket.
This week I begin my retirement and perhaps it’s Kismet, but the first thing on my bucket list is to start sewing again. I have the fabric, the patterns and lots of enthusiasm, but alas , also a semi-broken sewing machine. If luck is on my side I would use this amazing Spiegel to sew some Ginger flares, or a sunhat for my granddaughter or a backpack for the hiking adventures I’m planning. Whoever wins will be a happy sewer, I’m sure.
OMG! A worldwide giveaway a super pretty sewing machine that’s definitely more computerized than mine. Please enter me!!! 🙂
Oh i would love to have this ! I was just thinking this morning of sewing some summer dresses for my granddaughters, so thats what I would probably make.
My first thing I’d sew on it would likely be a button up the front shirt. I’ve been meaning to sew a few, so that would be first on my agenda.
Ooh I would love to use this to make a plain fabric (maybe some navy linen??) Colette Hawthorn, with lovely machine embroidery around the neckline and hem – my vintage Bernina is the best thing ever, but I can only do about 6 different stitches…
htheoe(at)hotmail.com
I’d sew a top hacked from a wrap dress pattern I recently had success with!
It is beautiful & I’m most impressed with the fact that this machine has an all metal frame!
If I am the lucky winner, I would sew a 50′ inspired dress for my self, to wear on my good friends wedding this august.
Fingers crosed
Its a beautiful machine, I would start out with some embroidered pillowcases. I’m looking forward to seeing what you create with your new Spiegel 60609.
What I would sew with this nice retro sewing machine? It would be a wonderful Butterick 6018 retro dress! Greetings from Mrs Go
What a wonderful prize!! My mother has been without a sewing machine for a couple years & this would be perfect replacement 🙂 I would immediately ask her to make me new jammies like she used to when I was a kid.
The first item I would sew using this fabulous machine would be a pillowcase style sundress for charity (Dress a Girl Around the World). Thank you for such a generous giveaway!
I would see some new spring woven tops! My tried and true tops are looking a little woof. Looks like a super machine!
I just LOVE the phone-shelf, i would finaly sew that corset i’we been thinking of making, while watching some period drama on my phone 🙂
oh man, that machine is a beaut! I would most definitely use it to finally sew up that Inari tee dress that I’ve been meaning to finish for months now (knitting has taken up residence lately). thanks!
What a beautiful machine, and metal too! My first project would be something to show off those embroidery stitches for sure – peasant blouse for summer, maybe?
Firstly, what a beautiful machine! I’m already creating a space for the much needed machine in my sewing area. As for the project, my 50th birthday is coming up in June so I’d make a birthday dress, which I intend to embroider as well…so looks like this machine fits the bill…wow! What an amazing give-away!!! 🙂 Jin
This is a lovely machine! My first project would be a wallet that I promised a friend. But I’m already dreaming of warm weather so a summer dress would quickly follow!
Hmm, first project…I’m not a knit person but has been intrigued by it for the longest time. So sewing my first tunic will be it.
I’d love to give a head to head with my venerable B1008 with summer clothes.
I’d love to work on some underwear with this machine. It’s my spring project!
Fantastic looking machine. Would sew a shirtdress first to learn how it handles fussy precise details like collars and cuffs.
The FIRST thing I would sew is jeans for my son…I only have one sewing machine and constantly changing out topstitching thread is a pain! Having a second machine would make jeans sewing a breeze!!
Hmmm. I’d sew a shirt to use that free-arm. Thanks for the giveaway!
Oh man – I’ve been so frustrated with my machine lately! This would be a dream come true.
First baby is due in April and I don’t know the gender – so baby clothes will probably win come that time of year 😀 But earlier, I’ve got some baby decor aspirations. Or stuffed elephant aspirations!
Oh my gosh this machine sounds amazing! The first thing I would make is a pair of Ginger jeans. That cell phone holder is genius! Not sure if my email shows up: Jae.boyd@gmail.com
I would use it to sew some silk pyjamas for my daughters
I would sew a super warm pair of lounge pants to wear while I’m sewing other things 😀
I would probably sew a skirt for one of my daughters. What a great giveaway!!!
I’ve been procrastinating on making some knitting project bags and a Hollyburn skirt, because I have no sewing machine and have to do it by hand – not so bad once I get started, but, like many things that get procrastinated on, it’s the getting started that’s the hard part. If I were to acquire a sewing machine, those would be the first things to get made, since I’ve already got fabric ready to go!
I would love to learn to quilt, and would hopefully be able to use this to do so! 🙂
Please don’t enter me in the give-away. I’ll happily purchase one, if your projects convince me the expenditure is worth it. Looking forward to your first Spiegel project!
I think the first thing I would make would be the start of my 1850s/1860s ballgown dress. My sister and I are planning on making these crazy dresses together and it’d be nice to have something that’s a step up from my dearly loved Singer.
I’d probably just use for it whatever I am sewing then… maybe a named wyoming jeans.
I would make a knit anything, t shirts, Watson, anything. My machine chokes and dies on the stuff.
I’d probably finish my overalls with them because my very patient bottom-of-the-line viking does not like the brushed twill I am using at all.
Oops, forgot to leave my email, I think this works.
AHHHH Worldwide giveaway!!!!!! I would sew my next two Portside Travel Sets on that sucker because my regular machine, well, wasn’t pleased with the first one….*ahem*
I have a fairly basic Singer, at least 20 years old. It would be great to enter the 21st century with a computerized machine. (I just got a smart phone in December!) I’ve been making cute, very packable knit dresses for my daughter to take for her internship this summer hundreds of miles away in D.C., so my first project would be something for me. I just bought the Grainline Studio Morris blazer pattern and am on the lookout for a lovely navy/white floral (not too busy) that would be appropriate. Yep, definitely the Morris for me!
Shirts for my husband 🙂 He’s a tall slender drink of water, so shirts are always too wide or sleeves to short.
Wow, what a fabulous giveaway. I would love to use this to make my first shirt. I have bought the Sewaholic Granville pattern and am ready to get going. Love the idea of having a USB port and docking point for my phone.
Iain.ross30 at gmail dot com
This machine looks incredible! The phone rack and USB port have really got me hooked! I’d love to sew myself a summer emery dress if I won!
If I won I would get to the stack of pre-cut ready-to-go projects that have been sitting next to my not-so-great sewing machine for the last couple of months. What I wouldn’t give for some stitch options and a functioning button hole!
What would I sew first? Probably a new dress for myself. Because winter will end eventually even if I’m currently wearing what feels like 16 layers of clothes to keep warm and I will want to wear something light and pretty when that warm weather hits. Sounds like a neat machine! I use an 40-something year old pfaff, which is a great work horse, but some “new fangled” technology sure would be fun to play with! 🙂
Gosh, do i have to decide for one thing? Seems impossible. Weeeell, an asymmetrical pencil-ish skirt from knipmode is in order to motivate myself to get uni finished and have something to power dress for the final exam, even though it’s still a fair bit away…. Girl’s got to dream 😉
Awesome giveaway by the way.
I would sew burp cloths and a baby blanket for my 12-week-old son! Good luck everyone!
Wow, what a cute machine. I would sew a dress, this year is all about extending my sewing skills and I dont really need any more skirts! Thanks for the chance to win.
For Christmas 2014 I “gave” my husband a handmade dress shirt that I still need to make…
I usually don’t comment but have been reading your blog for a couple of years and I just have to take part in this giveaway.
The first project I would sew on this beauty would be a dark blue wool vest with coral lining for my boyfriend with a pattern from La maison Victor.
I normally avoid buttonholes because my machine needs four steps and they never look quite as good as I’d like them to, so maybe the one step buttonhole automatic on the Spiegel machine would save me as you can’t really make a men’s vest without buttons. 🙂
A bra of course. I have the same problem with my now 15 year old Bernina the pin that holds the handle on keeps on falling out so I have to carry it around like a baby.
That looks like a nifty machine with a reasonable price tag. I’d not heard of Spiegel before in the uk. I’d sew something springlike with a floral lawn from my stash.
Fantastic giveaway! Looks like a cool machine with some great new features. I would make a quilt top first but after that I would sew all the beautiful things that inspire me every day. Fingers crossed
A friend of mine just had a baby AND her husband is looking to buy a sewing machine for himself. So obviously I’ll teach him to sew (a baby blanket) and give them the machine 🙂
Sweet! I’ve got a rayon shirt dress cut and waiting to be assembled, and a BHL Holly jumpsuit in the queue too.
That looks and sounds like a lovely machine!
My husband and children complain about the noise my singer makes when I’m sewing at our dining table.
With this I could sew more!
I’d start with a Lana crop blouse from Wearing history and a matching high waist skirt I’ll draft in a linen floral with orange and aqua to be ready for spring 🙂
I forgot to mention the sewing without the foot pedal would be awesome, now my 11month old keeps pushing the pedal so I can only sew when he sleeps
The first thing I would sew would be a project I’ve been petrified to start – making something out of my great-grandmother’s old velvet dress. Love your posts Lladybird! As a fellow petite human, your outfits & sewing often inspire me.
Metal ?!?! WHAT?!?! I would totally finish my drapery project for the house. That fact that it wouldn’t jump around on the table might help get my sewing mojo back…..and finish that project!
Oh wow, I’m actually on the hunt for a new sewing machine this year. I’ve had a plastic, bottom of the line, beginner Singer for about 10 years now (but only seriously sewing on it for the past 3 years) and it’s been fairly good to me but it is slowly giving up the ghost.
The first thing I would sew on it is another Sew Liberated Sunday Picnic Dress (OOP). I made one a couple years back out of some black poly satin and I can only image what it would look like in this gorgeous blue silk I’ve picked up, and sewn on a machine that looks like it’s much kinder to delicate fabrics than my beast is.
I just bought a bunch of faux leather, so my first project would probably be a tote bag!
I know exactly what I’d do first! I would finally dig in to M6696, which has been on my to sew list FOREVER! My machine is lovely, but it has a 4 step buttonhole, and I have yet to work up the courage to do buttonholes. This would make it so much easier!!!
Plus, I know my boyfriend would appreciate a quieter machine so that he can watch TV while I sew for a change.
I finally have my sewing mojo back so I would love to make a blouse on the spiegel machine. I desperately need new blouses!
I would love to have a digital sewing machine, I love my Pfaff from the 90’s, but it would be great to add some variations to the stitches.
My first project on it would be a pair of linen Guise pants for the summer.
What a snazzy machine! It looks all set to make retro space costumes, but I’d probably make a little dress or camisole first– something simple to show off all the cool stitch designs that my current machines doesn’t have!
Oh what a beautiful machine! I think my first project on her would be a lightweight a-line summer dress because I am so ready for summer 🙂
Soo many stitches! Most likely a first sew would be a pair of jeans with embroidered back pockets. Thanks!
I have just drawn up a little SWAP of 10 pieces as I need so much, first a pair of togs (swimmers for aqua aerobics) – I think having that little usb and shelf for the device is pure gold! to be able to watch (well listen) some stuff while sewing all this stuff. Nice looking machine.
Love your blog and love the look of this new machine! I would make some travel clothes that are multi purpose. Thanks!
That white and gold calls for something fancy. I’d love to use it on McCalls M6884 in a silk knit!
I would make a Watson Bra!!!
Wow sounds like a good machine. If I won the giveaway I would probably end up making a dress for my daughter! 💚
My old sewing machine is nearing the end of her fabulous life (which I am very saddened by). This looks like an excellent machine and I’m not even sure where I could purchase one in Australia! I’d use this beauty to sew up some Ginger Jeans that I’ve been dying to make, but my little old machine can’t handle!
I’ve had some navy velvet in my stash for a while now so I think the first thing I’d make is a velvet flora dress. That machine looks so fab!
What a fabulous giveaway! I will sew my first pair of jeans using the Jalie 2908 pattern. It’s a bit of a stretch going from leggings to jeans but why not!
I would make a lightweight denim jumpsuit
Oh, what a classy looking machine! I would sew up a dress from one of my “new” vintage patterns. I think maybe in cream with gold accents, now that I think about it…
I’m quite addicted to summer maxi dresses, so the first thing I sew will probably be one of those 🙂
skater dress with my granddaughter. Ginger jeans for myself. Nice giveaway!!
I’m interested to see your other reviews, I would love to update my cheap brother I got at Costco but don’t sew as much as I think I should be to justify one of the higher end machines. Maybe this is the in between for me? In either case, I want to sew the fairy tale dress by Oliver and S for my little girl.
My daughter is nearly 10 and already bitten by the sewing bug, so the first project on that lovely machine wouldn’t be by me, it would be in her hands so we can sew side by side! Her skills right now have her making one of her favorite garments, skirts! She saw the machine on your blog and declared it PRETTY! and says a circle skirt (although she calls it a spinning skirt, she is 10.)
Curtains and pillows for the living room, and then doll clothes with my munchkins
What an amazing giveaway! I’d use the new-machine thrill to tackle my mending pile 🙂
The first thing I’d sew are summer tops. Looks like a great machine. Thanks for the review and the chance to win.
I lost 40 pounds, so I’ve been altering all my clothes for the last year. I’m ready to tackle the thin knit reversible t-shirt blouse. In fact, I’m itchin’ to! bring on a new machine!
ske1@pacbell.net
I am impressed with this machine as it is difficult to find something with a reasonable price tag that doesn’t skip stitches. I would finally tackle a silk button down shirt. I have mastered the cotton version but have been afraid to venture to a new fabric. Maybe a new machine is all I need 🙂
I’ve been putting off sewing a pair of jeans because my machine can’t handle the weight or the bulk, so I’d love to make a pair of those! Thanks for the giveaway 🙂
AHHH! I would sew through Boundless Style 🙂 Dresses galore for me!!
Sounds like a pretty great machine ! I’d like to try a blazer or quilt first. Very different, I know, but both are on my to make list, lol.
Oh, my! So many replies! I’m seriously tempted by this machine, as I’m still sewing on my mother’s 1970s Singer and it often struggles. It couldn’t handle top stitching four layers of soft shell fleece last week on a Jalie jacket. If I were to win, my first project would be… oh, how to choose, how to choose… a Grainline Alder shirt dress made with fabric I bought in Italy last year… or, more likely, yet more knit tees and dresses for my young daughters. I do wonder, in your running the machine through it’s paces, how it handles thick layers. For instance, leather or making jeans? I’m keenly interested as this might be the way for me to go instead of not acquiring any new(er) machine because I’m not going to spend $2000 on one. Thanks for sharing your work on your blog!
ooohh Giveaway!! I am in.. the first thing I would make is a dress solely from Chiffon material. 🙂
I am SO overdue for a new machine. My very first machine is battling along sadly. The first thing I’d make with a new machine? A pair of jeans – one of my 2016 goals is to conquer jeans!
I would make my TNT Anna dress and use the programmed stitches to do some cool stitching on the sleeve hems and neckline!
I would sew so many spring and summer dresses! I will sew them anyway, but they’ll be riddled with skipped stitches and wonky tension if I don’t win this machine 😦
I would sew a summer dress from my lovely cotton linen pendleton blend I just purchased from their portland collection.
OMG the first thing I would sew is something with gold threads to match the machine!
The first thing I would sew is an Archer shirt, adding embroidery to the pockets and cuffs. Thanks for introducing me to the sweet new Spiegel 60609!
I would finish one of several unfinished items to check it out. Then I’d give it to my daughter in who’s in college.
The first thing I would make is an Archer Shirt with embroidered details on the pocket and cuffs. The Spiegel 60609 is sweet!
I’d use it to embroider “Spiegel” across the front of a new t-shirt, that I’d buy from spiegel.com. Naturally, I’d be making this project in the sewing room at Rutherford B. Hayes’ summer home located in, you guessed it- Spiegel Grove State Park.
I would sew pants. I need something that fits, and I am afraid that I will never get it right. I promise if I were to win the machine I would stick with it until I got something that worked!
I’ve been meaning to sew a stack of Granville shirts. I’d start there, and use those fancy stitches to embellish! Then I’d move on to sewing a wedding-present quilt.
I make baby blankets for donation so I’m sure that would be my first project.
I would sew some pyjama shorts for me to replace my pair that tore from being so old and loved. Down to one pari now!
I would watch a box set of the Good Wife and make the two summer dresses I just finished cutting out. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
Vow, I would love to sew a dress for my daughter !
I’d love to win this for my friend Meg, so she can make her Kylo Ren cosplay.
I’m a cosplayer, so the first project I’d use this machine for is one of my Tekkoshocon costumes!
I’m throwing my name in the hat, great giveaway, thank you Lauren! 🙂
First I thought about making a coat, but since this machine features so many embroidery stitches it would be a shame not to use these. So my first project would be some delicate underthings in a cotton voile a have already in my stash.
So pretty! Having just splurged on lots of beautiful knits from Girl Charlee, I’d either be sewing a new look 6298 dress (possibly hacked to more of a jumper style), or a couple of Colette Mabels 🙂
The machine looks great.. Nice little retro look going on too. I would say that if I won the machine I would work on my first quilt. I would want to make a baby quilt for my hope chest. Preferably a little baby girls quilt..
Wow, this is a great giveaway! I just sewed my first pants and want to make a little vest with the rest of the fabric, so that would be my first project on the Spiegel.
Sonja
Since committing to an entirely me made wardrobe for any new garments that I add to my wardrobe, I’ve secretly harboured a desire to take a sturdy sewing machine to my classroom to teach my students basic sewing skills. I can imagine the whir of the sewing machine, while several other art projects are going on. I can imagine it would be used with careful supervision. I can imagine that my students would feel the same pride as I do when they learn how to make some simple projects like drawstring bags. I envision making some beautiful journals with them, perhaps even to give away to our children’s hospital. Such joy. Thanks for the opportunity.
What a BEAUTIFUL machine!! I feel like I’m cheating on my Janome, just by looking at it! The first thing I’d sew on it would be a project I’ve been waiting to do, for a long time – Simplicity 1067, it’s a coat…and I need the confidence to face it!! Thanks for doing this draw, fab competition 🙂
I have been saving my partner’s old, worn out, dress shirts for years. I would finally get around to making some modern, cool, blue and white quilt with them all.
What a stunner! Who knew? I like what I’m seeing and what you are sayning. If I can win this machine – more Birkin or Ginger Flares!
of course I forgot my deets: tulleyhiatgmaildotcom
Very comprehensive review, thankyou! I use an old machine passed on to me by my mother in law. It’s great in all respects- solid metal and easy to use- except that it won’t do buttonholes.
I thought the problem was my lack of skill for the longest time, until my mother-in-law mentioned that she never managed buttonholes on it either. She’s a good dressmaker, so it’s clearly the machine.
Because I’m a beginner, I just avoid making anything with buttonholes, or substitute other closures. I dream of shirt dresses though!
What a great giveaway! I am a Pfaff girl and a quilter. I have not been happy with the RTW out there recently and would love to get back into some garment sewing, probably some skirts and tops for summer. I am in need of a back up machine and this wonderful little beauty could fill that gaping hole in my sewing room!
I would make my grandson the Zebra costume he had been asking for.
I would sew a quilted bed jacket.
Ahh! I had the opportunity to sew on the Spiegel 60609 when I was helping some of Maddie’s students at her Soft Bra Workshop this past weekend. It’s a really great machine for the price point and I love all the modern features. I would love to win one and use it as a secondary machine. And I would sew a bra on it as my first project (so predictable).
Thanks for hosting the giveaway!
I would give this machine to my dog’s daycare owner so she can use it to make toys for a dog rescue she works with.
Wow! I’m impressed so far! I would give the machine a try with some knits. I’m in need to some cute, comfy lounge pajamas, so I would whip some up a cute pair or two. Thanks!
My beloved Bernina is in the shop right now, so I am having serious sewing machine withdrawal. Clearly I need a backup machine? 🙂 Thanks for the opportunity.
This is great! My sewing machine gave up the ghost a few weeks ago, and I’m currently using a loaner. So it’s a great time to try and win a new machine! I’ve got a few shirt patterns I’d love to make up, and some projects for around the house, including trying to make some cloth diapers for our first baby, expected in July.
Holy crow 900 comments! Hum, I would make my friend make a knit dress on it since she currently uses a 100$ polished turd that I hate. Yay knit dresses for summer!
Wonderful machine. I would make a vogue 1950’s cape in a mustard boiled wool.
Oooh, I’d put my phone on that little phone shelf and play my Fela Kuti Pandora station so I can jam while I make an Ankara gown.
Oh, wow!! I’m amazed this is a worldwide giveaway. Thanks so much for hosting this and for your helpful review. I would love to make a plain blouse with some pretty topstitching, as the embroidery on this machine is much better than on my trusty old Toyota.
anneehill7 at gmail dot com
I would sew some adorable baby clothes (I’m in that phase of life where everyone I know is making babies!) and then start on some summer dresses for me!
Annnd I would do all that while watching the Great British Baking Show on Netflix because I can’t get enough of their accents, kindness, and pretty baked things.
I would make some handbags and decorate with some embroidery stitches!
Looks like a good machine for a great price. I am into knits lately and would try a Linden.
Definitely pants! Sagers yoga pant or Style Arc Barb’s Looks like a nice machine for the $$. I didn’t realize Spiegels was still around! Thanks for the info.
Such a pretty sewing machine! 😀
I would make a spring dress for sure! 😀
Fantastic machine! 🙂 The first project will be a jacket for one of my sisters! 😀
A bow tie 🙂
A skirt for church would be the perfect project to start! 🙂
Hi Lauren
What a beautiful machine! I need to make a whole new wardrobe as I’ve just had a baby and my cleavage alone is not what it used to be, so I’d start with about 3 Archer shirts and take it from there.
In any case, thanks for the great review – some people had fun designing this machine – I wish it had been me!
Alice
Thanks for the review Lauren. I would never think to look at this machine without your review! I would whip up a couple of bras as my first project. I bought the Craftsy class but hadn’t started it so I think that would be the perfect way to hit two goals with one stone!
Love the shelf for phone or iPad! I would try to sew the modified shirt dress using the archer shirt pattern and the tutorial from LuckyLucille. (I got the link from this blog)
I would sew the standard shirt I’ve made for my husband 5-6 times. That would give me good project for comparing this Spiegel 60609 with my machine!
The first thing I would sew is some new t-shirts. I am so sick of companies putting cap sleeves on women’s t-shirts.
Hello. I would be sewing my daughter’s first and only prom gown. She is an early graduate. I have never sewn anything for her. She finally asked me, but my sewing machine is no longer working. I have been trying to find ways to get another one so I can see her gown, but it seems as though I am at an impasse until now. I do hope I win. GOD! I hope I win. She said that if I can’t make it she’ll just go shopping with her father. NOOOOO, I hope I win!!! Sorry for blabbering. I love ur blog!
Wow, that machine is beautiful! I’ve been trying to get into sewing my own underwear and bras and that’s definitely what I would make first. My current machine has a tendency to pull stretchy fabrics down into the bobbin mechanism, especially if I’m using a narrow seam allowance. I can’t figure out why. It’s a ~10 year old Kenmore I got off Craigslist.
I would sew the Hollyburn I’ve had kitted up since before a rather urgent house move a few months ago.
Hi! I live in Ukraine. My name is Svetlana. Lauren, I really like your blog, there are a lot of inspiration and creativity here. My sewing machine is my old and true friend. She (machine) is more than 10 years old and I love her so much… I really liked your description of the new modern machine because it so much interesting. I’d love to sew a new denim skirt and adorned it with new decorative stitches. My present machine is bad in sewing thick fabrics. Alas, I think the new one gets through this problem wonderfully! This would be great! I believe in victory!
I think a shirt dress is in order on a new machine. Looks great.
Hannah.
han_tigger7@hotmail.com
Groovy, kind of art deco styling!
ooooh since I’m newly divorced after 3o years, and just starting to date again, I think I’d sew a cute but simple little black dress!
Rebekah
bekahjane.hancock@gmail.com
What an amazing machine! Thanks for the informative review. I would make a trench coat with the Spiegel 60609. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.
DeborahC
this looks so awesome! I think that I would use the decorative stitches on a cute, cotton sundress
I would make a cute black dress, or i would make the 1940s outfit that is required for class next unit!
I’ve decided to finally take the plunge and sew jeans, so those would be my first project! Thanks for the great giveaway. 🙂
I signed up for a bra making and a lingerie making class on Crafsty. This would be my first project. I would like my sewing focus to be on lingerie this machine and I would be so happy😍 Oh I hope I win and then maybe it would help me chase the blues away
Jeans!
I have a zillion projects in my queue, but think I’d start with a strip quilt I started a couple years ago. It’s a good way to get to know a new machine!
What a beautiful machine this is ! I would love to make Some pretty dresses and bestseller with this Spiegel !
What a beautiful machine this is ! I would love to make Some pretty dresses and bestseller with this Spiegel
Holy moly! I have a whole list of projects that I would sew on this swell machine (after possibly murdering my beginner Brother machine last month). I think a Lady Skater or a Francoise top my list right now. Or some snazzy Aires exercise pants from Seamwork with super cool stitching along the seams. So many options!
I’ve got way too many projects that I want to make but I think the first one I would do, would probably be a purple cotton dress (probably Elisalex, but who knows).
A peasant blouse with a few decorative borders partnered up down the front is at the top of my sewing list.
So, I have two machines that I love, but my husband keeps saying he wants me to enter to win this for him! The machines we have are mechanical, but he is techy, so I think he would absolutely love this. He says the first thing he would make is a Strathcona Henley by Thread Theory. I made him one and it turned out great, so it could be a group project. 🙂
Oh, what an elegant machine!
I’m planning to sew scallop-edged shorts (M6930) in sparkly black stretch twill.
LOVE this machine! My first project would be a plum-purple velvet corset, as the crowning glory of my witch Halloween costume. I have all the materials ready and waiting… but I’m too afraid that my current machine will mangle the beautiful, expensive velvet.
I love that you can sew with a button instead of just with a pedal. My toddler looooves commandeering the foot pedal for her own pretend play and it’s so frustrating to spend a half hour looking for the pedal for a twenty-second mending project.
Awesome giveaway! I have a 16 month old daughter who is petite and I have decided I need to make some custom pants for her because everything is so long and doesn’t fit properly. So toddler pants would be my first project.
Ooh it’s so pretty! I would use it to finally make up my Deer & Doe Bleuet dress I’ve been planning for AGES. It needs to happen. Thanks so much for the awesome giveaway!
I would make a Mimi Blouse from Love at First Stitch to take advantage of the one step buttonholes 🙂
What a great machine, I think I would make it (the machine) a decorative cover, testing and using all the great stitches – after all we all like to have something nice to wear 🙂
I want to win the Spiegel 60609. Having video tutorials and digital pattern instructions at eye level would be PERFECT!!! The tech shelf is truly a stroke of design engineering genius!
I would sew Baste and Gather’s Birkin Flares. I’ve been dying to make a pair of jeans but my little Singer Simple isn’t gonna cut it. I would use some of the decorative stitches to customize my back pockets. https://indiesew.com/products/baste-gather-birkin-flares#product
Sounds very promising! First project would be a dress for my brother’s upcoming wedding. Thank you :0)
Who could say no to a new sewing machine? I would sew myself a pretty summer dress with this machine or maybe pull out that bra pattern I got recently. 🙂
I’m a big woman who loves to walk, and the “chub-rub” has worn out a lotta jeans over the years. It seemed such a waste to throw them away, I’ve been wanting to upcycle them for a long time. After our office moved I went right by the Curtain Shop on the way home every day, where they had fabric samples for just 50c – gorgeous silks, linens, all kinds of great stuff. I hatched this idea to make pillow covers with denim on one side and cool coordinating fabrics on the other, so the fancy side is up for looks and the denim side you can lay on without worrying about messing it up. Beads were my first love, but all these gorgeous fabrics have me wanting to learn more and try my hand at new stuff. Pillows are just the beginning!
Hmm…probably a dress, because I love to sew and wear them. I still remember my first Spiegel catalog, and that was 30 years ago!
I’m really digging the white and gold. I would definitely make that perfect pair of black pants I’ve been meaning to make for work. Just need to find the perfect fabric first…alas.
My machine has been giving me a headache lately! I haven’t even wanted to sew because the tension is off and I can’t figure out the sweet spot! I’d love to sew some new maternity tops. My regular shirts are getting smaller by the day!
yay! This would be the perfect replacement for my aging machine. I’d sew up a new pencil skirt for work.
Such a pretty machine! I’d make a pair of pjs with this beauty.
I’d make a Simplicity 2215, first a skirt, maybe with fancy embroidery then?
I would make a white and gold tote bag to match the pretty machine.
What a beautiful machine! If I was lucky enough to win I would make myself a Granville shirt.
The machine sounds awesome! I would sew a red winter coat with white faux trim to recreate a coat I had as a girl for my daughter who has requested a red coat.
The first project I would stitch up with this machine would be my vintage vogue 1954 reprint in a stunning teal linen I bought years ago with a similar project in mind. Unfortunately my vintage 1966 singer just isn’t up to the job anymore and I fear after serving my mother and myself for many years it may be throwing in the towel 😦 a new machine would be a godsend as I’ve had a few requests for dresses that I haven’t been able to get past the hand basted stage due to the lack of machine consistency. Anyway love your blog and the post was great. Can’t wait to see who wins, good luck to everyone
Congrats on your partnership! What an awesome giveaway! I would sew an archer popover 🙂
This machine looks so smart! My wardrobe is lacking a maxi dress so I would sew that as my first project.
Ahh I love the retro look of this machine! and the tray for a smartphone is so useful. I really want to make a handmade wardrobe for myself, so the first thing I would make is either a flannel shirt or a cute blouse that I can wear to class!
I would sew blankets for my sister’s impending baby! Thanks!
With that lovely machine it would finally be time to make a Valentine dress for ME!
I would make some pajama pants!
Oh what a fabulous gift! I would make a lovely quilt with my new fabric bundle 💝
jamie pants
I’d use the machine to make myself a stunning dress for the company conference, coming up in a couple of months
Hiya Lauren,
To be honest, this seems like a dream machine! I remember having to save, not to mention hunt for my first used Bernina 1090. And I still love her to this day! Chick made my wedding dress! Sounds like this Speigel machine deserves just as much credit! Yay for making sewing more accessible to everyone!
First makes on a new machine should be special! I’d make a modern version of the trousseau I dreamed of completing with my wedding dress. Maybe the Nutmeg pattern from Colette Patterns or the Emery Dress from Christine Haynes…
I would make a circle skirt–for ME!
I would finally sew my first jersey summer dress, which is already cut, but i couldn’t sew it because my cheap 100$ machine would definitely destroy the beautiful fabric.
Susi
Would love to sew some spring dresses on this..
Wow! How cool!
I think I’ll make an archer with this beautiful purple plaid fabric I bought in NYC in my last trip
What a great giveaway! I’ve been working with knits, so I would probably churn out more tops, skirts, and briefs.
Sounds like a great machine.
If i woulf win the golden lady, the first thing I would do is to sew a trenchcoat. Namely the Isla from Named in a leopard raincoat fabric.
The second thing would be to contue teaching my daughter to sew. She is 7 and just completed her first pair of tights. So one machine is obviously one to few. When teaching someone tjat age two things are great about the Spiegel; adjustable speed and start stop button because of her shorts legs…
I truly am in love with the style of this machine. If I won it I would definitely sew something white and gold for the spring! A gorgeous dress and peplum top, I’ll even do a sequins maxi (gold of course)! Actually I would so everything on it especially because of all the wonderful features. I would even post my videos with the built in camera.
What a beautiful machine! I am in desperate need of new work shirts, so I would sew a few tie front blouses in fun novelty prints. Maybe some in silk crepe.
A Clare coat!!
Jeans! I could use one machine for construction and the other for topstitching!
I am currently taking a pattern making class so it will probably be a muslin moulage 🙂 But I would also love to make a pair of comfortable dress pants.
I think I would finally finish my husban’s smoking jacket after three years in the making. I guess it is a UFO now!
I absolutely love my vintage Elna, but it has some limitations. Every time I try to sew stretchy knits, I have to add a strip of thin paper on the bottom. Otherwise my little Elna struggles! The Spiegel would save me a lot of trace paper!
I forgot to add my email: geen . ideej at gmail . com
I think I would break this baby in with some new bras.
Oh my gosh! I would use it to sew myself jeans, ASAP! My current machine can’t handle even lightweight denim, and I just don’t want to buy RTW clothes anymore – even jeans!
I had no idea Spiegel was still around–hilarious! I wonder if the styling is still super 80s. 🙂
Anyway, if I won, I’d maybe finally get around to sewing up one of the Renfrews I’ve had cut out for literally YEARS. I’m not so great with sewing clothing, y’all.
Thanks for the opportunity!
I have been intending to make a cheeseburger print snapback hat for awhile, and a new machine would definitely merit the completion of that project!!
I would love a new machine to had to my collection! I would make myself a new dress for sure! And the Hubby would love it to! I think he would make a pair of pants for himself.
How awesome! The first thing I would make on my new Spiegel 60609 would be a summer maxi skirt.
Ooh, I only have a vintage Singer 301, which can’t do zigzag, so I’d probably try a jersey dress (I’ve been eyeing the Sew Over It cowlneck dress). Or, just gussy up a shirtdress with embroidery.
An ivory and gold lace Watson set to match this pretty pretty machine. Or possibly Papercut’s Yoyo dress in a gold brocade! Really goin with a theme over here!
The first thing I would sew would be a cute dress for spring😊 Great giveaway!!!
I need to sew a slipcover for our new couch…it’s currently covered in various blankets to minimize animal hair and the temptation to use it as a scratching post. Secretly though, it’s my opportunity to have any color couch I want!! So that’s what I’d sew on the Spiegel. Very surprised at this move by the company…yeah for affordable quality home sewing machine.
ooh would love this! So pretty! The first thing I would sew on it would be this quilt: http://ohfransson.bigcartel.com/product/fancy-fox-quilts-pdf-quilt-pattern
for my soon-to-be-arriving niece or nephew.
My first project on the Spiegel machine would be an Archer blouse for spring!
I would love a new sewing machine! I dying to tackle a pair of pants!
I think the first thing I’d sew would be a spring linen top.
It’s the USB port that seriously gets me. And the shelf for my phone. Both things I never considered a sewing machine needing but now can see that a machine shouldn’t have to live without.
The first thing I would sew would be a Coco dress from Tilly and the Buttons.
OMG, OMG.. want it so bad. My old Brother machine just died 😦 I would make a bubble quilt for the baby number two we are expecting.
This is very beautiful & I am in love. I would use it to make some cute fabric guinea pigs houses !! hee hee and then to make my new curtains for our house which was very badly flooded in December; and then a pretty new summer dress for me & one for my tiddly peep too. !!! Good luck everyone..I hope they sell these in the UK 🙂
Thank you for this review and giveaway! The first thing I would probably sew is a padded jacket. My Singer 5430 sewing machine doesn’t seem very cooperative lately and won’ t handle thick fabrics or layers, so fingers crossed, I get lucky! Winters in Greece are mild and I rarely wear coats. I am having my eyes on the Grainline studio Tamarack jacket or the Republique du Chiffon Bernadette jacket pattern.
I haven’t made anything for myself since my wedding dress, so I would definitely start trying to work through my stash! I’ve been wanting to make a travel jacket with lots of zipped pockets so that would be first I think…
Hello!
My first project on the Spiegel 60609 would be a bra from Beverly Johnson’s class.
One of my next projects is a plaid long-sleeve knit crop top, a copy cat of one of my roommate’s shirts that I’ve been coveting! 🙂
my first project would be a shift dress with some tricky silk georgette!
The first thing I’d sew would be a costume for a Beltane bonfire I’m going to in April. I hope to make something memorable since I’ll only know two people there!
It’s freakishly warm here so I’m already planning summer sewing. Really wanna try out the Grainline Maritime shorts!
Ooooh, beautiful machine! 🙂 What I’d sew first?: a summer dress and some fabric baskets I am about to make.
I have a baby quilt to finish for my bestie 🙂
Sounds as though you were pretty impressed with this. I’d sew a lined spring jacket, with leather inserts to test it out on a variety of fabrics. There might also be top stitching! I might also use it to teach my daughter to sew as it would be nice to teach her on her own machine. I still have my simple machine that my mum taught me on, and I still use it.
Ow, thank you for this great giveaway! This machine seems pretty fine. 🙂
I would love to use it to make my first pair of jeans… I already have the denim and the pattern ready, but my actual sewing machine can’t work with the thickness of it. ^^
Oooh. I like the look of that machine! I have had the schoolhouse tunic pattern for ages but not yet sewn it. . .I think that would be the first thing I’d do.
My first project would be a lunch bag! I need a lunch bag! 🙂
I’d love to finally tackle making jeans! That would be my first project so hopefully, I’ll win 🙂
This is much fancier than my current vintage one. The first thing I would make would be an Easter dress for my granddaughter. I would even let her go fabric shopping with me to picks hers out. She has a new love of fabric since I started teaching her.
siscodeborah@yahoo.com
I am a new sewer, and would make a simple, linen dress for summer! Thanks so much for this great giveaway!
I’ve been looking at beginner machines, and I have been waffling between getting a beginner vs spending more. I’d maybe go for the Simplicity dress you chose for the sew along last year. How fun!
This machine looks kind of like a dream, especially for the affordable price! I have a number of projects in the works and my machine just went sour this week, the nearest repair is an hour a way so I was looking into finding a new machine! My first project would be a gorgeous tote/purse by designed by Noodlehead, I’ve already got some amazing Japanese canvas. So I seriously hope I win because this would make me so happy and solve some big problems!!! Also, can I just say how brilliant the phone shelf is?
Wow – very generous giveaway! I’d dive into my stash, hope to make it out alive and clutching some merino knit that I have hiding in there and a copy of Tilly’s Agnes (pattern bought months ago but not yet sewn) and sew that up – watching tutorials from the phone shelf if necessary! Thank you 🙂
I’m new to sewing, but I love me some details. My first project would be getting myself some of that new Nicole Miller Tencel at Joann’s and making it into a Colette Sencha but I would draft a Peter Pan collar (because I love Peter Pan collars). And then ALL the decorate stitches on the collar! And on the fabric covered buttons! Decorative stitching for days!
Wow!! Awesome giveaway!
the first things I would make is the waver jacket by papercut patterns:) hopfully before the winter ends;)
I would sew anything what is waiting in the queque. So maybe a summer dress or Grainline Archer. Would love to win.
This machine is gorgeous! I would go the boring route and sew up some PJ pants first. All the ones I wear now are in a sad state.
WOW, FABULOUS GIVEAWAY. Love my basic berina model, but would love more stitch functions. I would tackle a couple wearing history chemise patterns followed by crazy quilt pieces that my great-grandma had started….the possibilities….
OMG!!! Come to mamma! You’ll bem very happy in Portugal and so do I 🙂
i’m so in love with this machine and since it’s still not available internationally, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for this giveaway! 😉 in my case, it would be a belated birthday present, haha! 🙂 I would use it to sew my first bralette and a bodice, something I’ve been planning for a while now. thank you for this opportunity! 🙂
I just had a baby so lots of sewing for her will be done in the coming years. The embroidery stitches look nice too
I have a summer type jumpsuit pattern that I want to make with chambray and needs to become a reality this summer 😎☀️
What a great giveaway! I’ll be sewing a Minoru jacket with my new machine 🙂 I’ve been meaning to make one for ages, but it’s still just at the tracing stage …
I cant choose my first project because there are so many things i’d like to make! I’m having my first baby in july so would love to make a pinterest worthy nursery for him or her, baby clothes, maternity clothes… the list is endless for me when i think about creating a comfy homemade environment for me and my new family! The machine would definitely help me stay creative (and sane!) on my maternity leave! 🙂
Ooh I’d make my first pair of maritime shorts – yay! 😍
First thing I would sew would be a Saltspring/Vogue 1224 mashup for summer. I’m already planning maxi dresses for hot weather here. 🙂
OMG. I would sew the weirdest Vogue pattern I could find. Maybe something by Marcy Tilton.
That machine is beautiful! I’d love to try making my first quilt with it.
wow! The first thing I’d sew would be the fancy shift dress in a cute poly-chiffon printed with birds I plan to wear to the wedding of a friend this year 🙂
This machine looks amazing! I have my grandmother’s Viking, which is my baby and a workhorse but doesn’t always play nice with more delicate fabric – which means if I won the Spiegel I’d finally bite the bullet and dive into bra making like I’ve been tempted to recently! Probably go with a Watson bra first 🙂
My first project would be a tulle circle skirt to wear to a friend’s wedding. If I can have the tutorial right in front of me on my phone sewing with lightweight fabrics wouldn’t be so scary! (plus, you know, netflix…)
Monogrammed undercrackers, just because monograms make everything classy.
Oh Spiegel, where were you when before I dropped $600 on a machine that didn’t totally meet my demands!? I would love this machine.
Wow, the numbers of stitches is quite impressive and this baby looks like a lot of fun! I would love to play with it!
I think the first project I’d tackle is a pair of comfy but stylish pajamas to get rid of my old T-shirt PJs!
Thanks for the giveaway and I can’t wait to see what you’re going to sew up with this!
I would immediately make another Watson Bra! I’ve been wanting to upgrade from my Pfaff Hobby machine (the first machine I ever owned and well loved) for awhile now. It isn’t able to change stitch length, which I found troublesome when stitching zigzags the first Watson bra I made. It also isn’t great at buttonholes, a thing I need to finish my Archer and Meissa currently in progress!
Thanks Lauren 🙂
I am trying to talk myself into trying to make my first bra so that is what I would make.
The majority of my sewing the past few years has been for my grandchildren, so the first thing I would make with the Spiegel would be something for me – maybe a skirt.
I would love to be able to sew buttonholes and stitch knits. I have and older singer sew and touch (aka sew and cuss) that I use for buttonholes but its being tempermental at the moment.
I would sew a winter coat with this….like 5 winter coats! My current machine is a wimp.
Sewaholic Robson trench coat
Machine looks great, much better than the one I have. I would sew a beautiful satin 1930s style evening dress for my 40th birthday!
I normally hide from computerised machines but my 20 year old mechanical £60 machine is feeling the strain. I’d make a tailored jacket with it. I’ve drafted the pattern, shortly to make a toile but the jacket will be a nice melton
How exciting this is! I would totally start on my children’s summer wardrobe with it. Sundresses, shorts, t-shirts, and sun hats. Can’t wait. 🙂
What would I make…. Hmm… Probably a cover fot if it didn’t come with one 🙂 or a pencil skirt.
Oh wow! my first project with its wonderful machine would be a little summer dress decorated with embroidery
I just got done with a 2 year journey of losing 100 pounds. Yay! I would sew a a full denim skirt from a discontinued pattern that I have been holding onto since I started the weight loss.
What an amazing giveaway! I would sew a Hawthorne dress, because I really hate the four step buttonhole on my current sewing machine, and I never manage to work up the gumption to make the amazing Hawthorne of my dreams (I have a substantial but flowy blue on blue polka dotted rayon chambray awaiting its life as a Hawthorne).
I would sew a nice warm comfy pair of pajama pants!
A new beach bag! Love that stitches will be available on Google play and itunes.
What a wonderful machine!!! My first project would be a Collette Wren dress so that I could try out one of the pretty embroidery stitches around the neckline!!!
I haven’t had any sewing inspiration in a long time, but I would probably make something basic that would get a ton of use
I’m having my first baby soon so I’d probably see another outfit for the kiddo!
I have been planning to make my partner a pair of Thread Theory heavy duty work pants and to make myself a new bag that I can carry while babywearing, but if I won this draw, I would most like to offer the machine to my very good friend who’s machine just died on her mid-project.
Super cute machine, love the wifi, USB port and phone shelf! Spiegel is fun and this review was an interesting read. If I were the lucky recipient a summer dress would be the first project! Fingers crossed!
Sounds like a great machine!! I’ve got all the materials to make a Watson bra–just have to finally work up the courage to cut into my stretch lace. Having a new machine would definitely help with motivation!
The wifi and USB connection is such a great idea! As much as I love my grandma’s Husky (which I will never get rid of) a shiny new machine would put a little pep in my stitches!
Wow! I’m on a sewing roll lately, and I gotta say, the phone holder is a great option on a machine! Loving it.
That is a beautiful machine!! The cell phone holder is brilliant. I have just ordered some knits from Hawthorne Threads with plans for some “selfish sewing”. I would start with a top for myself.
Hi Lauren! I’d sew a smock top for my daughter, Daisy, using some of those fancy embroidery stitches on the gathering. It might not be all that glamorous but Daisy would love it, and it would fill a gap in her wardrobe. I am finding it increasingly difficult to find RTW clothes that fit her, as she has Downs meaning her proportions are unusual (narrow shoulders, pot belly, short limbs, etc). I have pretty much resigned myself to making most of her clothes from now on, but with a machine like the Speigel I’m sure it would be great fun!
First thing I would sew? I’d finish the totoro costume my 2 year old son asked me to make, because who doesn’t want to be a forest spirit? My machine crapped out on me last week. 😦
Love the look of this machine, so fancy! Your words make me want to own this myself. I have been saving some fabric for new wrap dresses for spring. I can’t wait to start on those.
I would make a cathedral window quilt with fabric from my grandmother!!
Love this machine! I have a whole bunch of pajamas lined up to tackle next–Carolyn, Fifi, and Lakeside. Would be lovely to make them using this beauty.
I would love to get my hands on the machine so that I could make Burda 7179 pattern which I have wanted to make for a long time but I’m dreading doing all those buttonholes.
Thanks for the giveaway. I would like to say I’d sew myself something pretty but I’d probably sew something for my kids 🙂
I’m so interested to hear more of your thoughts on this machine.
I generally love my (low level, mechanical) Viking, but I just finished off another beautiful shirt for my husband with pretty pathetic buttonholes. My first project would be something that took advantage of a better buttonhole feature, most likely a shirt.
I just started sewing recently and have slowly been making my way through Love at First Stitch. I would definitely tackle the Mimi blouse with this machine!
How pretty is that? And the stitch quality looks lovely. My adoration of this blog continues, and maybe I’ll hit the giveaway jackpot! Thanks for all the entertaining &muse full reading.
whoops, I left a bit out! My first project would be a few more lessons for my niece on basic gifts she can make for baby showers and a new Knight outfit my two-year-old could wear everywhere (no glitter, unlike the rest of the princess items, but a snazzy shiny silver upholstery velvet instead).
I might just make a crazy quilt using the ‘fancy’ stitches.
I’d make my first log cabin quilt with my mom!
Well, jumpin’ jiminy! They say not to judge a book by it’s cover but I do! The look of this machine alone is enticing! Thank you Lauren for the wonderful feedback on the machine & the chance at the give-away. I would piece a quilt on this beauty as my first project.
I so enjoy reading your blog, your honest opinions are a delight to read.
I love this! Wanna make a cute bunch of baby things and use all the decorative stitches for a friend who is about to pop!! And would be great to be the only person in australia that owns one!!
I would start sewing some knit dresses for the summer!
I would sew the Emery dress!
I’d love to try a pair of Ginger Jeans on such a glorious machine!
If I win this Spiegel sewing machine, I could finally make that fab blush cape that I’ve been so scared to start on !!
I would sew a dress for my niece.
Since this competition is WORLD WIDE (!!!) I would celebrate here in Australia by making a cute bolero for a local wallaby in need. How adorable would that be?
I would totally see the Colette Patterns Lady Grey coat – it’s been sitting in my sewing table drawer for at least 3 years 😦
Free sewing machine? I want to go to there 🙂 First project? Imma go with some Sewaholic Thurlows. Or maybe break into that Ginger jeans pattern so I can try out the fancy stitches on the pockets.
Love reading all about this machine! My first project would be making a dress for a baby girl that I’m waiting to meet come this May!
The first thing I would sew with this machine is a lined LBD with some subtle hem embroidery. I’m still kickin’ it with a Kenmore Ultra Stitch 8 that was a gift from a friend’s garage clean out. She does pretty well, but those embroidery stitches look so pretty!
An Archer!
hmm. I guess the first thing i would sew is my wedding outfit! 🙂
If I won, I would get right into making Christine Haynes’ Emery dress. What a beautiful pattern!
That is a beautiful machine! The first thing I would make with it is a pretty new dress for Easter.
LOVE THIS! 😍 I would love to sew a little winter coat for my puppy! She’s getting so cold in this winter snow!
Oh my god this is by far the best give away I’ve seen on blogs!
The first thing I’ll do with the Spiegel 60609 Sewing Machine is sew my cat a new bed! she’s turning 18 in March 1st and she would definitely appreciate a new bed with embroidery decorations 🙂
Looks like a great machine! The first thing I would stitch up with it is that plaid flannel Colette Negroni I’ve had on the back burner. A nice opportunity to practice matching plaids and try out some of those fancy stitches!
What a great giveaway 🙂 I think I’d make a summer dress for me!
I would sew Eleonore pants by Jalie.
I would sew myself a dress which is in my long time plan. I would love to make it with this wonderful machine 🙂
I’d sew a Hollyburn with embroidery somewhere on it.
I would sew some trousers for my two lovely sons.
I just cut a new pair of Oh La Leggings in some spandex from Mood Fabrics, so this would be the perfect opportunity to put that machine to work!
Jeans are my list of things to try this year. A new machine might make that go smoother!
I would make either an Emery or a Bettine to christen such a beautiful machine! Also, watching Netflix whilst sewing FTW!
What a gorgeous looking machine, and so made for a 21st century sewist. I think a machine this special deserves a special project, so i would be sewing up a grainline cascade duffle coat in mustard 🙂
Amazing giveaway!!! I’m new to dressmaking so I would use it to try improve and tackle some new patterns such as the sew over it ultimate trousers and pussy bow blouse! 🙂
What a great giveaway! I have a hard time choosing which project I would sew first if I ever win. But I think it would be a silk dress with double layers skirt, quite a challenge for me but I think it would look beautiful in the end 🙂
Would love this machine! It’s so pretty! The first thing I would sew is a quilt for my newborn daughter
I would make all the coats on my to sew list!
I will be sharing the machine with the summer program for refugee kids at the Family Learning Center — maybe we’ll sew a tote bag or a skirt?
I just moved to Ecuador in November, and sadly had to leave my beloved sewing machine back in the states. The first thing I would sew would be a new pair of Thurlow trouser shorts because my shorts game here is sadly lacking. Fingers crossed!
Jeans, so I can have two machines going 🙂
I’m in Boston where it’s below freezing so I’m looking forward to spring and would love to make the Colette Aster shirt (https://www.colettepatterns.com/catalog/aster) on the Spiegel!
I’d love to attempt a “real” shirt for my husband, with plackets, cuffs, and a collar. The ability to sew buttonholes would be greatly appreciated.
I would sew my best friend’s gold 70s style wedding dress for her vow renewal in Vegas!
Wow! Such a pretty machine. I’d love to do a project to try out the decrotive stitches. Maybe along the border of a skirt.
Loving that gold & white color scheme! I think I’d make a Linden sweatshirt!
Nice machine! The first thing I would make if I win is a pair of slim jeans.
Nice machine, plenty of options! The first thing I would make is aa asymmetric wool jacket. I’ve had the pattern for several years and finally found the right fabric for it!
Wow, looks impressive! I would love to sew up my Colette Beignet on it. I’ve been putting that off since my current machine does not have an automatic button holer, and eeep! 12 buttons!
I can’t decide! I’d start with an Archer shirt or a pair of Ginger jeans. Thanks for the giveaway!
Ooh nice. I’d go for sewing up a tessuti Sydney jacket (I just made one for my mum on her birthday, and now I want my own). And then I would branch out into making my own underwear!
I make hand felted and fabric wall hangings, and it looks as though the Spiegel would be excellent for adding embroidery stitches to them.
There’s this skirt pattern called Hollyburn I’ve been meaning to try – I seem to recall reading somewhere that it’s a good one lol. Maybe I’ll make one (or seven😜)
I would probably finish my Simplicity 2247 dress if I had this machine. This dress has lingered on forever, though it will be the second one I’ve made. This looks like a good machine.
Impressive! i would make a Ninjago suit for my son.
I would make the dance costume my daughter has been asking for for 5 years. My machine is 25 years old and only likes sewing mid weight woven. Lycra is eaten for breakfast!
Love to make some new t-shirts. Lovely machine with lots of stitches for new projects.
That is a nice looking machine and I would love a machine with speed control. The first thing I would sew on it if I won would be a pencil skirt with a flounce in the back from a OOP vogue pattern I was lucky enough to track down.
For me, definitely a tossup between the Bombshell swimsuit (I am using my grandmother’s sewing machine and it is averse to stretchy fabrics) or Ginger jeans (see previous parentheses, machine also doesn’t care for heavy fabric). I have a sewing club at school and my pulling off one or the other would definitely have even more students interested in learning.
Beautiful machine.
Hi my daughter purchased a simplicity machine for me for Christmas and birthday I like the machine very disappointed with the embroidery is too small I have no use for them they’re to small I would have returned it but it was a gift from my daughter how can I get the embroidery on my sewing machine larger .☹️
